If anyone wants to test out my iPad apps with 4.2 multitasking capability PM me and I can add your device so my app can be beta tested :D please don't pay someone thats retarded :apple:

I currently have an Apple Dev Account and an iPad. But in my downloads section, the 4.2 Beta is not showing up. Neither is the Mac OS X 10.6.5 Beta, which is required to install the 4.2 Beta. Any ideas why? You seemed like a smart iDevicer because you make apps so I thought I would ask.

Did you pay the $100 fee? Or do you just have the free developer account program?

You need to be a paying member to see the betas.

iOS 4.2 and iphone 4 SOLUTION

You need to install iOS 4.2 beta on an iPhone4 using the xcode app. It will not work if you use iTunes (option) + Restore.

P.M'd! \0/

If you install a beta iOS, can you still upgrade to the full released version when it's out? There's no drawback to running the beta is there (apart from the usual THIS IS A BETA warnings)

Yes, I've done it with every beta to final release on my iPhone 3GS and 4.

Make sure you're browsing the "iOS SDK beta" tab of the iOS Dev Center.

Since the switch has been changed back to a mute switch, has the behavior of the volume rocker been changed? Does the volume now down go down at a normal rate when you hold the rocker down, or does it still jump right to mute?

Pre iOS 4.2, you could quickly mute the iPad by holding down the volume rocker for a few seconds. It's a useful feature I suppose, but I HATE it. Every time I want to drop my iPad down to 50% volume, I end up muting it instead.

xcode vs itunes

has anyone been able to update iphone 4 with itunes yet? or only through xcode?

ipad update thru itunes works fine for everyone so far? Can you update or do you have to restore?

I'm confused by what Apple says:

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/09/15airprint.html

Does it only work with HP printers shared on a Mac or PC or does it work either with any printer shared on a Mac or PC or directly with Airprint printers like ones from HP?

They are saying that the (wireless) HP printer supports direct printing from an iOS device with no computer involved. In general AirPrint will work with any printer that is shared by a computer on your network, but of course it requires the computer to be on.

ah, I don't get viruses on my Windows 7 (or XP, or Vista) machines (6 ea.) either. geez, you act like everyone without an Apple device MUST have viruses. I've been computing since 1985 and while I had a couple decades ago, I haven't had a virus in so long I can't count the years. you might want to stop with the "apple is so superior" attitude.

Awesome anecdotal evidence!

I support far, far more than that, and it's definitely possible to easily infect Windows 7 with nothing but a link and a hijacked site. Seen it, been there, done fix that.

I like Windows 7, but it's neither mass hysteria of infection, nor is it infallible.
