I feel like this version of MacOS has seen more Beta versions than usual. Could be wrong though...
I’ve been reporting a number of macOS bugs with a few bugs that haven’t been fixed yet. Several of them seem to be in Safari with certain web sites that simply won’t scroll past a certain point while the pages scroll just fine in Chrome. Disqus, a common comment system, also seems to have significant problems. These problems persist in iOS/iPadOS, but Apple released those anyway. I’ve also got a nasty printing bug where text simply will not print but graphics will, whether I’m printing from a web page, a PDF, or a Word or Pages document. They did seem to fix all the networking issues I’ve run into, so I’m quite happy with that. I do hope they fix most of these bugs before a public 11.0 or 11.0.1 release.

  • macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 beta is designated as qualifying for the 50% Apple Security Bounty bonus payment for issues that are unknown to Apple or reintroduced in this release. See Apple Security Bounty for more information.
So, this is probably a ready GM as they are already offering bonus payment for finding security issues.
It’s been the case for the past few beta releases

I just don't buy the "apple is holding out for silicon Macs" argument, I hope and think the release will be soon, as in by the end of the week. I think the GM is locked for the new devices, and will be released to developers ASAP. If they hold off a GM until after this event, what are all the silicon Macs going to run? Apps that haven't had a chance to be fully optimized for Big Sur? What kind of customer experience is that? Nothing will be ready to run on a silicon Mac. I think that would be a mess, and I don't think they would do that, at least I hope they don't.

Okay, so they have frozen Big Sur to release sometime soon, with obvious bugs still. Interesting. Downloading the .0.1 beta, let's see if this fixes the ones I see creating issues for me.

Build Number: 20B5012d
Size: 3.69 GB on MacBook Air 2017

@erniefairchild1 Might I ask what are you disagreeing with? It’s just my observation with respect to bugs I am facing. Disagreeing will not make the bugs disappear for me. 😂

Just updated without any problems. Downloading and installing didnt take long, but preparing for update take a while

No they are gonna skip 11 and jump straight to 11.0.1 so beta 1 is kinda like beta 11

Actually, what's more likely is that Beta 10 is the build being used for the GM, as Big Sur is due to be released 18th November, the day after the Mac Silicon event, according to what I have read from reputable sources online (GM should be out the week of the 9th, or they might give Devs 2 weeks gap instead of 1 and release GM next week).

Since they have locked down the build for GM, they want Devs to now move onto testing the next release, as nothing more will be changed for 11.0 since GM is now locked.

I don't think I will upgrade to big sur until after the holidays. Might wait for a 11.0.2 or 11.0.3 release. Catalina has been stable now with 10.15.7.

This means that the GM build has already been loaded on the Apple Silicon laptops for shipping after the mid-November event. That build will contain code that will give away the form factors and device information, so we won't get it until after that event.

Same as getting the 14.2 iOS beta after 14.1 was loaded onto the iPhone 12 devices.

If Big Sur will have binaries for both x64 and ARM for everything, does this mean we get to see the return of optimization apps that promise to scrub your laptop of the unused binaries, like we had in Leopard?

Will they release 11.0.1 instead of 11.0.0? Or is the GM pending release with the new macbooks in November?

Always makes me laugh a little when they start sending out builds for the next minor release before the main release is out.

I mean as a programmer I completely understand....as a consumer though it makes me laugh
After last year's Catalina roll out, maybe Apple wants to roll a stable osMAC Big Sur?

The latter. GM for 11.0 is coming either next week or the week after (more likely the latter) and the public release of 11.0 is supposedly the 18th November, the day after the Silicon event according to a few of the reputable leakers.

In the release notes many things are carried over from Beta 10 release notes. It could be Apple has dumped 11 as the release and is moving the 11.0.1 as the full release later in November. Who is to say it has to be released the day of the Mac show, Apple could announce the new Macs release 3 weeks later or something. Possibly Apple felt it was too late to release 11.0 and it wasn't on par. Maybe like iOS 13.1 was, this will be a short beta.

Wouldn’t shock me that the shipping build is 11.0.1

I kinda agree, as it appears 11.0 is coming out the day after the event, I doubt the new Macs won't be shipped to people until, at least, the Friday of the following week, so 11.0.1 might be a day 1 update for those Silicon Macs, rather than shipped as the OS installed.

When is Big Sur finally going to be released? I don’t think it’s ever taken Apple this long to release an updated OS. Is it because BS (😆) is very buggy?
I want Apple to take as long of time as they need. Nobody NEEDS a new OS, nor do they NEED Big Sur to get work done. I for one got tired of the Catalina trashing so Apple can take as long as needed to get Big Sur running as smooth as possible.

My thoughts exactly, you beat me to it.

Does the delay potentially indicate significant new Mac hardware, that Apple is trying to hide by holding back the full public version? Maybe nothing crazy like a touchscreen Mac, but new screen sizes, new Touch Bar implementation, etc.

I don’t really know how this works, but a ton of leaks recently have come from clues in the OS, which it seems like Apple could easily prevent.

I ride the Beta train on iOS most all of the time, but I haven't touched Big Sur yet. I may even wait until 11.1, but I'm really excited to try this out.
