Yeah bad Apple for giving owners a choice to receive security updates on a stable release or get the latest .0 potential bugfest. They have done this for several major updates.

its good to update 15 pro first and then pickup the 16 pro on friday, or is better to wait until friday to feel “the full experience” or this affects recovering backup from 15 pro to 16 pro? its a genuine question

Go ahead and update. Restoring from backup usually requires the old and new phone to be on the same iOS version.

See below, phone being transferred to just needs the same or higher iOS version.

The 16 Pro is likely to come pre-loaded with iOS 18 (even if it doesn’t you can update it during the transfer process).

Right off the bat, the autofill for 1Password on MacRumors didn't work. I had to manually enter my credentials before iOS 18's password manager recognized them. 🤷‍♂️

Oh no, the black screen of death. Can you do a hard reset?

I tried a hard reset by hitting and releasing the up volume then down volume the holding the power button with no change. I had a full charge when I started. :-(

RCS just seems to work (at least on T-Mobile) - large size photos just come through on green bubbles now.

A bit anticlimactic (was convinced we'd have to toggle RCS on) but am a very happy user.

Nice job to the programmers on it.

It’s for devices current running IOS 17 not upgradable to IOS 18.

Waiting to update as I don't want to have to update my new phone when it arrives this weekend. In the past it always seems that the big Monday update before a new phone release is a newer version or different build than what is installed on phones

Updated. RCS automatically toggled on as is working perfectly with my wife running a Pixel! She is on Spectrum Mobile (Verizon) and I'm on T-Mobile.

yeah ive been trying out RCS with a friend on an older Pixel as well and different carriers. its nice to finally Bridge that gap, it should make our friendship even stronger. LOL.

Interesting. It offered my iPad Pro the option of 17.7 which downloaded quick. Chose update to 18 and it was telling me 47 minutes.

Security updates have priority. (Probably.)

You can go straight to v18. v17.7 is for folks waiting.

I did the 17.7 update and then the ios 18 and everything is fine.
