Unless you are willing/able to do a proper test using the same subject with as close as possible lighting conditions dont bother. Your comparison above is next to useless. It might well be that apples hdr implementation sucks monkey balls, but you have neither proven nor disproven that in your post.

lol

they are the same kind of setting, from the inside of the car to the outside and trying to capture all of it in one

i'll do it again tomorrow just for you

Proximity Sensor

Once I had my phone updated I took the phone off the computer and started making business related phone calls.

Started 96% battery around 12:45 p.m. CDT.

Made multiple phone calls, shortest 2 minutes, longest about 57 minutes.

Finished with 73% battery around 5:05 p.m. CDT.

The behavior that would make the phone drop calls or automatically turn the speakerphone on or randomly dial was holding the phone to my ear via my shoulder, it never failed prior to today.

After the update I wasn't able to do that today and I can tell you I was super alert for any freakiness in it happening because I kind of expected it but was pleasantly surprised that it went fine.

So, for this user the proximity issues are over with.

Oh and for the guy who has the phone in his pants pocket and songs are automatically changing, it's definetely shake to shuffle!

I have a 3G and it definitely works alot better. I had the jailbreak from 3.01 for the longest time and it just got really slow. Upgraded to 4.01 and jailbroke it again. Become really slow.

After today, everything is much quicker to open and it actually feels functional again. I may wait for iPhone 5 now...maybe.

download em, then put the file on your desktop

plug your phone in

go to your phone in itunes

then ctrl n click Update (which will allow you to locate the specific file)

click that file and it will update it

just make sure to sync/back up your phone before doing this b/c it doesnt run that part of the process

Is there a different method for iTunes 10?

It only gives me the option to download the updates.

I've done:

My iPhone -> Summary -> Ctrl/Update -> Continue -> Ctrl/Update

Top bar -> Ctrl/Check for Updates

edit: I had downloaded the file earlier apart from iTunes

So,

I have an iPhone 4 running 4.01 (It's not a 3G)

I don't really care for GameCenter (I like games and all, but this seems like it's something geared towards the Touch crowd)

I have an app that apparently will do HDR pics better

I never had the proximity sensor problem

I don't use Bluetooth

Is there any other reason for me to update to 4.1?

I doesn't seem like there were any really good bug fixes (like stability improvements, increased speediness, or better battery life), but rather just a bunch of small stuff thrown in to calm the masses. Am I missing anything?

I'm doing it for those two reasons. Intermittent prox issue and the HDR app (ProHDR?) is too 'aggressive' for me, it leaves that fade around edges

No more streaming audio in VW GTI w/ipod connection

The new iOS 4.1 killed my lastfm & pandora streaming thru my car stereo. This is not cool. Just when I was enjoying the streaming audio in my 2009 GTI via ipod connection this new update kills it. This is only in my GTI, I have another car with a kenwood stereo w/ipod controls and that lets me stream from Pandora and Lastfm.
When I try to launch Pandora in the car it starts to play then fades out and switches to ipod mode.

I wonder why this new update turns off those two apps?

i did it that way on itunes 10 today

it should allow you to locate the file and once you click it another window pops up saying Do you want to update? or something like that

Ctrl key for Windows, Option key for Macs

There are several security fixes and bugs fixed which I had encountered in 4.0.

So glad iOS 4.1 runs well on an iPhone 3G. Man, have I missed folders. P.S. Don't forget to do a hard reset after everything is synced!

Useless? No. I noticed an obvious improvement in the photos you took. Sure, it's not like the Pro shots, but I can actually see the whole tree and your roof. Probably not as good as Apple claimed it to be, but it at least improved the photo a bit.

I agree. The second photo is much better, IMO. Not the best source for an argument.

I am confused. Flight Control and PacMan both say they are Game Center ready, but after updating them I still get no games shown in Game Center.

You have to launch the games first THEN go back into GC

It worked, for the most part. Thank you so much! <3

No worries.

Hard resets also sometimes help (Hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously till you see the Apple logo)

So far, so good on the iPhone 3G. Seems to be back to reasonable responsiveness.

Do you think they will ever update the Apple Remote anytime soon?

It's still rocking the old iTunes logo and it's in desperate need for a iPad specific version.

I know I'm not alone...

Interesting thing happened after 4.1 update....

FWIW, before updating the iPhone 4 to version 4.1 this evening, I set it to airplane mode so as not to hear all the cell interference from my computer speakers. After the update was complete, I went into the settings to turn airplane mode off and I saw, for about 1 second, an entry right under the Notifications option that read "Carriers" and then disappeared. I haven't seen it since but it sure did confirm for me that more carriers are coming soon to an iPhone near you!

I thought this might interest someone waiting for the iPhone on Verizon ;)

Phew! .. finally

An hour ago the updater was telling me the download would take 10 hours and was creeping along at 28-40 KBs. The Cupertino boyz must have fixed the problems because now the entire download is taking all of 6 minutes. Yay!

that's always been there...

Video on CNN site

Upgraded to 4.1 on my 3G and while it is definitely faster than it was It's not as fast as I'd hoped it was going to be.

On a separate note, has anyone noticed that CNN videos can now be viewed on the iPhone? I know that CNN videos have been viewable on the iPad for some time, but I haven't been able to watch them on my 3G.

I am trying to update my iTouch 3G which is running 4.0 now. And i was trying to update it to 4.1. I got the "Connect to iTunes screen" on my device and "Preparing iPod for restore" on iTunes screen. But after a while, I am getting the error message "This iPod could not be restored. Unknown error code (1602)". Please help me on this and its not a jailbroken one...
