Do you guys think, when renting a movie on the iPhone 4, the HD version is worth it?

Does is make a difference?

Anyone else dislike the UI tweak in Safari? When you're at the top of a webpage, the address/search bar is short and stubby compared to iOS 4.0 and earlier...

Are you referring to the glitch that happens where the address bar gets a little cut off in Safari? That's a glitch, not a UI tweak. I'm not noticing anything different about the UI in this release.

Standby being when you lock the phone with the button on top? If that's the case I can assure you WiFi remains on. I know this because I have tested turning 3G and Cell Data off and still received a call through my VOIP program connected over WiFi.

Same here, I also get push notification from Facebook coming in too (with wifi on and 3g / cell data turned off) on standby.

I upgraded my 3G. It's better but not fantastic. At least it works now, though.

Just after I'd upgraded I rebooted and found that whenever I opened mail it would hang on a white page for ten seconds then just close. Did this three times. Also did this with a couple of apps. Scary. My mind went back to the days when I used to be a Windows user and I was just about to restore when I rebooted two more times. Now it's okay.

One thing though, I was expecting a box to pop up asking if I wanted to set up as a new phone and didn't get one. Doesn't this normally happen? Was kinda nice not to have to reinstall all my apps, etc. and download add-ons again.

HDR is only for the iPhone 4?? It's not enabled on the 3GS, that was the big thing I was looking forward to in this update..

Well they've got to start ebbing away features from the 3GS to make you guys upgrade sooner or later ;)

Can I see a screenshot? I can't upgrade till Friday.

Well, I upgraded to 4.1 again... it lagged still... so now I'm downgrading to 4.0.2 again. Fun stuff!

Apparently there are no games in the Game Centre.

Worst. Rollout. Ever.

(Haven't devs had since the 4.0 SDK in the Spring to make them compatible? Unless Apple hasn't approved any yet...)

Well, 4.1 has made a significant improvement on my 3G... thank you, Apple! It's not quite as fast as 3.x but i can certainly switch between Apps, Type Messages and launch Safari a LOT faster than I could with 4.0.

It's safe to assume though that the 3G is no longer going to be supported but at least it's now usable until the 3G-massive upgrade.

Apple's HDR is useless.

Here is a standard shot:

Here is Apple's HDR shot:

Here is Pro HDR's HDR shot:

Here's the original iphone shot of the above one for comparison:

the Pro HDR is what it is supposed to look like. You get both the foreground and background lighting without over/under exposing the other. And yes I know the Pro HDR one is a different photo but it keeps crashing on me right now for some reason so I'm using a two day old pic to show the difference.

Unless you are willing/able to do a proper test using the same subject with as close as possible lighting conditions dont bother. Your comparison above is next to useless. It might well be that apples hdr implementation sucks monkey balls, but you have neither proven nor disproven that in your post.

Took 19 minutes from start to finish to upgrade an iP4. No problems. HDR photos are quite nice. I've only looked at a few but the result is generally better than the original photo. Probably if I put them in Aperture I can make them look better. Having HDR makes that possible as there are few or no pixels blown out.

Not surprisingly there are some limits to this. If you have really bright areas and dark shadows it won't fully compensate.

A nice thing is that it is really fast. It doesn't seem to be taking three individual photos. I'm just guessing but perhaps the phone is able to read out a photo without erasing the data in the wells. This way they can read out the underexposed, normal exposure and overexposed all in the time required to shoot the overexposed photo.

You only have the option to save the normal exposure in addition to the HDR result. You don't get all three shot used to make the HDR photo.

I am a few hours late the to Update to iOS 4.1 party, but I did a fresh install on the iPhone 3GS. I put it in DFU mode, and restored the phone AND set it up as a new phone for best performance. Now its gonna be a PITA to re-arrage my icons, make folders, change settings, and set up my Apps, but I want the BEST possible performance.

Warning!

my iphone 4g crashed while updating and failed to restore on any pc i tried it on. if you have WIndows xp sp3 and only have usb 1.0 do not update!! update on another pc or mac with usb 2.0.

Hdr??????

I'm not surprised apple is adding HDR only to the iphone4... I still much rather have a 3GS with a working antenna anytime; )

Updated to 4.1 and think my iPhone 4 is more responsive after the update...

Yep, it's snappier (really!),

Good update. HDR photo's are super nice and it's great to have that built in to the basic camera app instead of having to use a different app.

I think this is a hardware issue, not software. I've heard tha Apple changed the pins on the new headphone jack.

There is only 1 pin in the headphone jack. do you have a citation to back this hearsay?

Why does my iPhone 3 headset work in both?

I am confused. Flight Control and PacMan both say they are Game Center ready, but after updating them I still get no games shown in Game Center.

Not sure about FC, but are you sure Pac-man is game center ready, cause I looked at a couple of Pac-man in the app store and it doesn't say anything about them, but ms. Pac-man does.
