+1! I'm so sick of people complaining about their 3 year old phone not running the newest iOS. Technoloy moves quickly and will not support older devices forever. Either upgrade to an iPhone 4, or stop complaining.

The 3G runs just fine on iOS 4.1 thank you.

Apple's HDR is useless.

the Pro HDR is what it is supposed to look like. You get both the foreground and background lighting without over/under exposing the other. And yes I know the Pro HDR one is a different photo but it keeps crashing on me right now for some reason so I'm using a two day old pic to show the difference.

You do know its a mobile phone and not a desktop running Adobe CS

ah nice. it kept all my music and videos for a change too. hopefully the car kit connection tomorrow will be fast again instead of slloooowwwww

how, specifically, do you install those downloads?

download em, then put the file on your desktop

plug your phone in

go to your phone in itunes

then ctrl n click Update (which will allow you to locate the specific file)

click that file and it will update it

just make sure to sync/back up your phone before doing this b/c it doesnt run that part of the process

You do know that Pro HDR is an app on said "mobile phone" that works 1,000x better.

I'm not demeaning the iphone's camera, because it's all I use as a camera since I bought the iphone4. I'm just saying this "hdr" add on to it by apple is useless.

if you update on a different computer....beware

You can do it and it will save all your settings if you do a backup first and then restore back to that backup but..... you are going to lose all your music and apps. I just did and it sucks.

Option+Update or Option+Restore then select your downloaded file

Ah, the secret Ctrl key function lol

Same for Windows machines I take it?

My 3G is at least usable again. And finally, BT track control. Amazing.

Even in Pandora, you can at least skip to the next song.

Have you tried a hard reset (hold down power and home button until it shuts off)? My 3G was feeling laggy until I did one of those. It's like a whole new phone now.

Yes. No difference. I don't understand why it would even make any long-lasting difference. Sure, it'll clear up some stuff, but they'll come back.

Fair enough, different strokes. I personally didn't like the effect of the last photo (too artificial) and the iPhone's attempt didnt seem that terrible to me and looked more...natural

Ctrl for Windows, Option for Macs

Apple's HDR is useless.

Here is a standard shot:

Here is Apple's HDR shot:

Useless? No. I noticed an obvious improvement in the photos you took. Sure, it's not like the Pro shots, but I can actually see the whole tree and your roof. Probably not as good as Apple claimed it to be, but it at least improved the photo a bit.

last time i upgraded my 3GS it got kicked in the tenders with battery life. do i dare?

that's because i didnt mess with any of the sliders in Pro HDR

i agree that the foreground does look artificial almost dream-like, but if i would have messed with the sliders that could have gone away

i'm just trying to show what true HDR looks like, b/c in the Apple one you still cant see the sky at all (which is the point of using HDR)

Just installed on 3G, now is fast again like it used to be before 4.0
Great!!

My only concern is that now when in standbye it looses the wifi and goes in 3G or in E.
Actually I think they removed the feature that keeps wifi on also during standbye introduced with 4.0

I'm pretty sure WiFi is only active in standby if your iPhone is plugged in. Battery saving feature.

But you couldn't see the sky at all, it was completely overblown. In the pro hdr version, the sky was still easily seen in the inn-her before photo.

Anyone else dislike the UI tweak in Safari? When you're at the top of a webpage, the address/search bar is short and stubby compared to iOS 4.0 and earlier...

It's actually probable that a dedicated app like ProHDR will do a better job at this than the feature in iOS 4.1. And it works for 3G and 3GS too!

Standby being when you lock the phone with the button on top? If that's the case I can assure you WiFi remains on. I know this because I have tested turning 3G and Cell Data off and still received a call through my VOIP program connected over WiFi.
