Apple Releases iOS 5 Beta 2 to Developers

Sorry for the silly questions. I am a dev by no means so here goes. If I update to iOS 5b2, when the final release comes, will it be as plugging into iTunes, or accepting the OTA to get to the final release? Lastly, I've read some forums that say I need to have beta 1 installed. Is this true? How can it be if it is?

Nobody knows. I don’t think even Apple knows at this point. They’ll be testing the OTA updates but likely their GM build will not be OTA as it’ll be a full build only.

I edited my post, but I don't think it will be seen, I've read on some forums that needs to be installe over beta 1, how can that be since it's a full 830mb file? In other words, looks to be a full build

You don’t need beta 1 to be installed. I had my iPad 2 installed with Beta 2 only.

That's what I get for reading something other than macrumors. I'm still fairly new to anything other than JB on the iPhone. I came over from android, where most anything can be fixed by restoring a backup(HTC), running a RUU(htc again) using a sbf(motorola), or using Odin(samsung) so although I'm comfortable, just making sure I know all steps. I had apple drunk register my UDID a while back. Is there anyway to see if they actually did that? I would hate to not be able to use this as a phone

Really odd, because the sync completes but the back up doesn't seem to save when I check Devices in iTunes preferences.

I get exactly the same as you. WiFi sync will work and transfer any changed items but doesn't backup if there is a previous backup existing. If I cable it I have no problems. Hopefully it will sort itself out in a future beta build.
 
Got a weird problem/error with beta 2.
I loaded my iPhone with a lot of music. All music except for songs by AC/DC and Metallica will play fine... Songs by those artist won't simly play.. Just me that got that error or is Apple testing some iCloud copyright handling?

It's common mp3's that worked fine before...

These bands will always create a problem being so big. /jk

Metallica is held by Warners I believe and I bet there's something going on with the copyright stuff. On another note, why would you want to hear Metallica? :p

Well. I stream those bands from my NAS with DS Audio instead, so it's not a big issue atm. :cool:
 
FaceTime works??

I just installed beta 2 and was holding off because of FaceTime not working. But mine works! How's this possible? I installed using the first beta iTunes 10.5 don't see how that would make a difference.

Anyone else?

Are you updated to 10.6.8? That was the problem that several of us were having at the beginning of this thread.
 
So I am on Lion...and when I try to use the Wi-fi sync it starts up but then almost immediately gives me this

I updated phone and Itunes to beta 2. Having difficulty scrolling through apps in itunes when attempting to add apps to iphone... everything just locks up. Using windows 7 and have installed/uninstalled both several times. Any help? And no, im not a dev.

It's slow in beta 1 too.

I've been having the exact same experience on a windows 7 computer right now. Best is to file a bug report if you are a dev, otherwise just wait for next beta.

I have this same issue, I can only get it to sync if I change something on the computer side (e.g. checking or unchecking to include a certain podcast in the sync). Mine is with an iPhone. Attempting to sync without any changes always results in this message for me.

i had that, i got round it by going to the main apps library and dragging the ones i wanted to the device as the app screen on the device in iTunes was hell.

Dunno what apple did but they're trying to screw over us windows users in beta 2! between that and holding out on wifi sync! grrr:mad:
