Thanks for clarifying. I'm an idiot. Has anybody else noticed the restore photo's bug? I tried a wipe and restore from 4.2.10 to iOS Beta 5 and camera rolled was all blacked out and couldn't get my albums synced. Never noticed because I do my testing on my iPod touch and decided to try this on my every cellphone. Which was a mistake, just didn't know what the deal was.

Make sure that you have synced it with iTunes 10.5 beta 5. That alone, adresses a number of problems that seem to have arisen.

OK so I installed iTunes 10.5 beta 5 and iOS 5 beta 5 on my iPhone 4. I restored from a 4.2.1 back up.

and I can't receive texts because it says my inbox is full, but even after I deleted a good chunk of messages, I still haven't been able to receive any.

also, my camera roll did NOT transfer over, and all the pictures in the Photos app are blacked out, and many didn't even sync with the phone. Any ideas as to what I should do guys??

Should I have not restored from a back up??

Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing that is possible when restoring backups across major versions. It's a huge pain to have to set up your settings all over again and lose your app data, but until Apple provides a way of backing up and restoring individual apps' data without also doing other system config preferences at the same time in one big monolithic backup, then the only sure way to migrate successfully is to do a clean install and transfers music, apps, photos, etc as it if were the first time.

Some people may have had success restoring across major OS versions; I personally have never dared take the risk. It's just one of those times where you suck it up and start fresh. :/

I'm gonna state this obvious and say this is a beta so this stuff is to be expected. I have experienced the same camera roll problem. The only way I've found to fix the photo gallery/photo albums problems is to unsync your photos, reboot phone and resync. My camera roll however didn't transfer.

downright unusable... from what I've read (for non-devs that is)

Is that what you're taking from this thread, or from comment elsewhere? I've looked but can't find much to suggest this - at least once Apples instructions are followed. Have had it on my iPad since last night and so far seems best beta yet (as you'd hope at this point! - BBC iPlayer has started working again :) )

Is the system wide dictionary missing for anyone else on the iPad? I no longer see "Define"

Problems with beta 5?

I've updated via OTA and have noticed some annoying bugs:
1. When you tap and hold an icon they start jiggling but i can't make them stop until i press the sleep/wake button.
2. When trying to load Voice Control it takes much more time to load.
3. The battery life seems to be not so good as beta 4.
4. When sending an iMessage to myself instead of the sms tone chosen by me, the phone starts playing the Marimba sound. Annoying!

Any other problems with your update?

All the above features working fine , except can't say about the battery life yet.

I haven't received a text message ever since I got beta 5. Anyone else having this issue? What should be done to fix it?

ARGHHH! When I try Restore from iCloud backup it keeps failing "Cannot Restore Backup" I really need that Backup the one from iTunes is now outdated.

I initially did an OTA update from IOS 5b4 to b5 and then I tried a DFU restore to b5 still same problem. Any ideas?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5288d Safari/7534.48.3)

Small change... No reception displays as SOS Only in top right.

Has anyone had a chance to try out beta 5 with any fm transmitter devices or bluetooth headsets? In earlier betas, it was broken.

i don't get how to start the OTA Update after deleting all setting and data. After hitting delete the iPhone reboots an starts the whole activation/icloud/backup/apple-ID-stuff. After that all data are on my iPhone again, as intended!
When and how should i hit the OTA-Button?

So how about now? Can anyone tell me how the new beta feels like? Is it more stable? More functional?

Hope the IOS gets stable and working by the time Apple releases the GM.

Appalled that this is Beta 5 as Wi-Fi sync sucks.
This is how it went for me.

Attempt 1: Sent two songs over, iTunes showed it syncing and so did my device. Go to music app, only one song present and would not play.
iTunes stated the songs were on the device.

Attempt 2: Load one song onto device. Song worked but No Album Art transferred (Yes the track did contain it and it works syncing via cable).

Attempt 3: Added another song, in the process it deleted the other song. Yet iTunes still states both are on there yet the device shows one (Still no album art).

Attempt 4: Add one more song, sync failed as device supposedly disconnected when it did not. iTunes shows 2 songs on device now, yet the device itself shows no songs present.

Attempt 5: iTunes can't find device/Device can't find iTunes yet both we're working (Although horribly) two minutes ago. I give up.

So I'm gonna be using the cable from here on out. It's outrageous as this was worse in Beta 4 so I guess it'll go to the GM aswell. This is one feature I hate.

my wifi sync works mostly ok, are you giving it enough time? as wifi syncing is not quick like a cable. sometimes stuff says it's synced then not, but i just remove and re-do it and it's fine. hoping this will be worked out by GM

Can you clarify as to what you mean by "sms preview."

I have noticed, I'm on an iPhone 4 running beta 5, that while I compose a text the text is more spread out with larger spaces, but when it is sent it tightens up again like a normal message.

It's hard to explain. Anyone else experiencing something like this?

i saw this back since beta 2 or 3, it's weird, but no biggy

Should I have not restored from a back up??

No, when iOS 5 beta came out, it said to do as a fresh install, this is due to some settings, etc not playing nice with iOS 5.

When and how should i hit the OTA-Button?

you go thru restoring your iCloud backup or whichever route you wanna take, it automatically starts downloading theupdate and when it's done it pops up saying a new update is available, do you want to install? you can see it downloading when you go into settings.

I have been able to perform an icloud backup once in beta 3. Now when i turn it on, it turns itself off. Before that, when i would try to backup, it would fail and say try again later. Any ideas?
thanks

I noticed, and read on a few boards, that the touch screen on the iPad (mines an iPad 2) isn't as precise as usual. Sometimes trying to touch a particular spot can be difficult and frustrating. Has anyone noticed if this have been fixed in Beta 5?

Exact same issue on iPad 1. Thought I was loosing it tbh, and just yesterday had my eyes checked; same prescription as ever (whew, relief). The touch areas are off on mine, and it happens mostly on safari- weird.

I don't get notifications on my iphone any more - but I do on my iPad 2 ;/ updated them both via OTA
