Well I'm sure if you read the instructions and did the erase contents and settings method you'd be fine.... Or if you did it via iTunes, made sure you were running itubes 10.5 beta 5 then you shouldn't have this problem. There was a reason they said this had to be done this way...

Wow,now Apple is into the London underground too. :p

I backed up to iCloud (and iTunes just in case), erased, installed b5, and everything worked quickly and perfectly!

Ah ha, that's the kid that always says "I'm going to go ahead and...".

Glad to hear it pop up less in this video.

Please refer to the instructional film "Office Space" to see just how mind-numbingly annoying those two words are.

Yes...me!
I realized that restarting the phone gives you the text messages you missed, but the same problem sticks around until you restart again.

Anyone find a way to fix this?

Guys, it's been noted and now I've tested. These work best when you start fresh with each beta. I haven't tried a beta on my actual iPhone 4 since beta 2 but thought I would give beta 5 a shot. Restoring from a backup(iOS4) for was causing some crazy problems. Once I wiped the phone and did a fresh install of beta 5 everything is working flawless.

- Flawlessly. Sorry, I'm a grammar nut. :D

how do I get this thing installed without paying the $99 registration or whatever fee?? Any hacks?

You should definitely have googled that before asking it here. Prepare yourself for the onslaught of "You have NO BUSINESS downloading a beta if you have to ask this, NON-DEV" douchebagery.
