Finally custom SMS tones is working! (not sure if it has worked in the last two since I had given up on it)

Have you got mail/accounts restrictions on? If this is on, mail/iCloud/twitter is all greyed out. Just go General>Restrictions and turn it off if you've got it on. This has been there since Beta 2 I think.

Strangely, it was off but turning it ON ungrayed the iCloud backup option. Gonna submit a bug report for this.

Edit: flipping it off afterword kept it activated

Apps fail to complete installation after restore from iCloud.

I wiped my iphone 4 iOS 5b4 prior to doing an OTA upgrade.

About 1/3 of my 130 apps that are being restored from an icloud backup hang at about 80% complete (They all hang at the exact same spot).

The name of the App change from "Loading" to an app related text string. (sometimes the app name, sometimes a full name with elipsis in the middle, and in one case the German version of the app name.)

Clicking on these incomplete apps changes the name back to loading, but their progress bar never changes. Attempting to delete these stalled installs causes the phone to hang. I've experienced this on previous betas with icloud backup and have had to wipe my device and start from scratch with iTunes.

I've scoured the forums and google and haven't yet found anyone with a similar problem. For those MacRumors Don Quixotes who would rather fight imaginary enemies than be helpful: I am a legitimate developer, I am a poor legitimate developer who can't afford to have an iDevice just for testing, I'm prepared to deal with bugs and data wipes if need be. I'm simply using forums for what they're made for and trying to leverage the help and experience of others.

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys might have.

Sorry for the double post... Decided to take a screenshot to see if that helped make my problem clearer.

As of late last night, you can now transition your MobileMe account to iCloud. I've done it. You have to on the latest beta of Lion and IOS and iCloud and of course actually have a Dev account.

Does this mean that users with an Apple ID used for iTunes purchases that predate their MobileMe account don't have to have two iCloud accounts just to keep all their existing data in sync?

so anyone else having issues with text messages not being received until you reboot? its getting annoying that i have to reboot the phone to get a text.

Nope, it means if you have a MobileMe account you can turn it into an iCloud account. Nothing more nothing less. If you previously needed a MobileMe account and an iTunes account, now you will need an iCloud account and an iTunes account.

That's unfortunate. And it wasn't a matter of need. I had an iTunes account, then I signed up for MobileMe with the same account name (it wasn't an email-based ID, just a username), and was completely unaware that it was actually making a second Apple ID. It also was a complete non-issue until this iCloud business, now I have to have two separate iCloud accounts and make sure my email/contacts/calendars are syncing from one and my purchases go on the other. It also means I have to set my "purchases" Apple ID to some arbitrary email address I don't use.

iCloud restore works and all but

it's not fully backing up all the app data yet is it? I've read this somewhere, cause, for example, I lost all my Shazam tags when I had to wipe to update & restored from iCloud. Bummer.

& my progress in Angry Birds, as well as an in-app purchase or two. i'd full restore from iTunes, but i don't feel like losing the texts from today. ohwell.

I ended up in the same boat you did. iTunes first .Mac/MobileMe later. Then I had separate username and a username@me.com accounts. Unless you've spread your purchases between the two accounts though, it shouldn't be that difficult.

I set up my phone with my .Mac/MobileMe/iCloud account name. Then I go into the settings app and put my separate iTunes account name in. No need for cross syncing no arbitrary email addresses.

As a matter of fact, I (and I'm sure I'm the minority) like having two separate accounts. My iCloud account has a 14 character password because my emails are extremely important to me and so many accounts link back to it. My iTunes account only has 8 characters so it's much easier (too easy) to make quick purchases. Plus I can have my other family members on my iTunes account without giving them my email.

Not for everyone or every situation, but just some positive side effects to consider.

So I've seen people yell READ THE DAMN FORUMS in this topic in response to fixing this. However I haven't seen any real solution.

I updated iTunes to 10.5 Beta 5 and then updated my iPhone to Beta 5 via the Reset Settings / Data and then doing the OTA update. Now none of my applications will install they ALL try to download at the same time and sit there for hours on end. I've tried using the USB cable, disabling WiFi sync, doing it via the Cloud. Nothing works and it's now almost 1 AM.

So ideas anyone?

I didn't reset my settings and data. Infact, I miss that part of the dev. notes. I just took a chance and updated it without resetting anything and so far, nothings wrong.

Does anyone know if the Modem Firmware has changed for the Verizon iPhone (CDMA)? The current one is 1.0.06. Thanks in advance.

I was/am having the same problem. I also wasn't able to find anyone else who has explained this on the forums.

One thing that I just noticed 10 minutes ago: When I delete one of the hung installations (press and hold on an icon, then tap the x in the top left) and confirm the deletion, it hangs... seemingly for a couple of minutes. Springboard will crash and restart, but that application will now be gone. At that point some of my other hung applications begin to install.

You have to manually redownload the deleted app, and it looks like you might have to go through this process a couple of times.

If and when you get it to work the way you want, I would recommend backing up to your computer, deleting the iCloud backup, wiping your phone, restoring the iTunes backup, then backup to iCloud again.

If I figure anything else out about this I'll post back.

sooo

anyone got an issue where no 3rd party apps will load?

twitter, nike gps, angry birds.. nothing works. email is fine. safari is fine

select the app, it expands and crashes. tried loading it again - same issue. killed itin task manager, rebooted. still fails. bit concerning.

no apps - not useful AT ALL

Yes, it happend to me, all the 3rd party apps crashed; the only way i could get them working is installing each app that i wanted directly from the phone's appstore itself. So far, all of the apps are now working fine except Google+

been working for me since beta 2 or 3, whenever it came in, i forget now.

apps have to be updated to support iCloud backups, now since apps using iOS5 api's, this means this cannot happen yet, so you're gonna have this until the apps are updated. think some basic data is backing up like logins and that as FB and beejive for me remember their logins.

i think thats why apple said to erase contents and settings first as it seems most people that didn't do this had this problem. As for google+ that's just not working in iOS5 since it launched

That happened to me too. I'm guessing you did the Erase all Content and then updated? What I did was do a 2nd Erase all Content and re-restored it from my iCloud backup and it worked again :) Hope this helps

is anyone having troubles installing itunes on win7x64?

it keeps asking me for iTunes64.msi when it comes to the removing application part of the install...kind of annoying as i backed up on itunes b4, ota'd and now cant sync or anything cos i cant get itunes b5 working?!

Hi,

My bad, what i meant was, i did a full restore of the beta, then connected it to iTunes and sync'ed all the apps from itunes. None of the apps worked ...
I then, deleted all the apps from iPhone and installed each app that i needed on the phone itself and now they are working...

Even F1 2010, that never worked on b4, is working fine on b5. so that's a big improvement :)

You made sure you were running iTunes beta 5 as alot of people forgot that

Still no updates shown in my 3GS running iOS beta 4 :(

You have to do erase contents and settings then it will show. So backup first.

Yep, upgraded the itunes to beta 5 as well before updating the iOS on device. Anyways, for now the apps are working just fine and i am happy overall with the battery life and smoothness on the phone.
And another thing, the manual download of apps very much forced me to have only the necessary apps now instead of having every unuseful, unwanted, junk apps..so the home screens look less complicated :)
