Tried to update my 4s 2wice already. Failed each time. I buddy of mine was able to get his. We're on a 10mbit connection here at work. His phone is not jailbroken. Mine is.

Does anyone know what features are available on the original iPad? I didn't think there were any...but the article on the front page says it is...

Ugh. Just as I thought. Horrible maps. Slow as anything to populate visual info when zooming in and out - checker-boarding constantly.... and no Street View. The only thing I could see being advantageous is navigation but seeing as I am using a 4th gen iPod Touch with wifi only that doesn't mean anything to me. I guess it's Google maps on the MacBook Air for me from now on.

Also- state borders are so faintly defined and are way overpowered by the yellow roadways. Just not for me.

Little blue bar is almost to the end. Can't wait to try it out, even though it is on 4. October can't come fast enough for my upgrade.

Quick first impressions.

I like the new look for the App Store. It's quite a bit cleaner, better laid out, and a little easier to navigate. What I don't like, and this seems to be popular opinion, is the new search screen. While it conveys more information about individual apps, it takes so, SO long to scroll through your results. It lowers discoverability by quite a bit.

The new Maps app.

The first thing I noticed is that it's fast. Very fast. It seems to scroll more smoothly and update faster than the old Google based app. The new text and line overlay is clean, and easy on the eyes.

But...

It doesn't display nearly as much information as it did previously, sacrificing tons of information for overall cleanliness. This isn't necessarily a good thing. I have to zoom to a pretty tight focus to get the names of smaller streets, for instance. The satellite maps? Horribly outdated. On Google, the shots in my surrounding area were taken around 6 months ago. On the new Apple maps? My house still had the old garage, so it's at least 2 years outdated, and it's nowhere near as high resolution.

...and no Street View. I miss it already.

It's a mix of some good and a lot of bad as far as I'm concerned. I get much better performance and slightly easier to read maps, at the cost of information density, features, and the most up to date satellite shots.

Makes me wish I could have my cake and eat it, too.

ok, So I downloaded the update and am in the process of installing. The iPhone restarted and the Apple logo came up and the progress bar filled up. Then it went back to an empty progress bar and hasn't moved for 20 min. Happened on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 3. Any suggestions?

Ok this is strange, it's downloading on one of my ipads, but isn't showing an update available on my iphone or my other ipad.

Anyone else have this going on?

Not that weird, there servers might be using GSLB to distribute load and your iPad has received a DNS response back for a server that is open but for some reason (maybe timing, location etc.) your iPhone is using a different DNS record for a server that ain't.

You might find power cycling your phone deals with this.

London, UK here. Have got to the point where the Apple Logo and bar is on the screen. Halfway through. iTunes is, yet again, verifying updated iPhone software.

Same here for my iPad 2

Living on the Edge

I've updated to iOS 6 with no problem so far. Very happy and quite impress.
Now, I just realize that I haven't done a back-up of my iOS device in 3 weeks prior to the update... Lucky me. I'm so living on the edge! ;)

Tried to force restart my iPad. Same empty bar as before. iPhone decided to move on it's own though. Don't know why it took so long though. Maybe iPad will do something soon...
