Wallpapers can finally be zoomed all the way out!! Finally....this always made my wallpapers look like crapped on the iPad when it zoomed in

caps

Why are they still unable to add shift lock->show caps keys, shift unlock->show small letters?

really? thats all of the UI changes (incl. the previous ones) nothing else?!... guess i stick to my jailbroken 704, then. ...if the GM doesn't come up w/ more UI changes which make it "better"...

I'd actually prefer a more stable OS than one that has a bunch of new features in it :) In addition to that, I think they should focus on fixing bugs and etc. since iOS 7 was already a major UI overhaul...

iTunes Radio now has Buy Album button.

Because it won't look like a 'real' keyboard unless the letters are always upper case.

Which would be a valid argument had they not gone out of their way to decry skeuomorphism and its value when unveiling iOS 7.

In this case, there is a great deal of utility in breaking with tradition and orientation to physical objects.

It's a lot for a .1 update. What were you expecting, exactly? Major changes won't come until iOS 8.

The under the hood changes, especially in terms of animation speed and system stability are the important part. I can tell you, going back to 7.0.4 would never happen for me now. It's a significant upgrade.

But I thought iOS 7 got rid of skeuomorphism? At some point Apple has to realize showing upper and lower case lettering makes sense. Now it just seems that they are saying we're going to keep doing it our way because we want to do so. I can't think of any other reason.

edit: Patriot beat me to it but the idea is the same.

Yes, all I care about right now right now is fixing issues, especially with Safari. I don't need a whole new UI in a point release. Save that for iOS 8 at WWDC.

I agree. I can't think of a single good reason why the letters shouldn't react to the shift key. I have a feeling that someone at Apple dislikes the way lower case characters look on the keyboard.

All I care about in 7.1 is having absolutely NO ISSUES with Safari

I want a fluent experience and able to swap to each tab without them RE-loading every time I click on them

i don't really get what issues you are talking about. i get along with 704 pretty nicely, without noticing any issues... and it runs pretty smoothly on my iphone 5, way better then iOS 7 did.

THANK YOU.
They fixed the caps/shift key. It was impossible to determine, even after using for an extended chunk of time, which was which when autocaps was enabled and you fudged up a capitalized word.

Caps lock is definitely improved, but shift/no-shift is still confusing because everything is grey or black & white. With shift on, the key is now black on white - it's just like all the letter keys, so it's still not obvious whether that means on or off. When it's off, it's white on grey - different from most of the other keys, so does different mean on? Or off? At a glance, it's not clear, so it forces the user to stop and think and which colors mean what. Bad UI as usual!

At least in iOS 6 there was a white "halo" effect to make it clear that the key was on. Off was clearer too because the arrow was just a white outline on otherwise all grey.

Would it kill Apple to bring back some of the blue to make things much, much clearer? Or make the actual letters lowercase or uppercase depending on state of the shift key (oh wait, can't do that since Android does it!). They seem to be hell-bent on keeping the look as minimalist as possible, much to the detriment of the user experience. So much for that reputation for good user interfaces... :roll eyes:

For those of you hoping for great things in 7.1 (or just fixes for 7.0 blunders), don't. As far as I can tell, these betas have simply tweaked visual components here and there without any substantive changes. Every complaint I have about 7.0 (and none of them have to do with the new "flat" look except where usability is concerned - as above) is still there in 7.1 beta 5. Since Apple refuses to communicate real release notes, we have no idea what has changed other than a few graphic tweaks.

Seems pretty clear that their "A" team is rushing to get 8.0 ready for next summer, while the "B" team screws around and makes insignificant updates to 7. So ultimately, none of the real issues get fixed. :(

The new shift key is definitely an improvement, but the off state is still somehow confusing to me. Anyway, it's much better now.

I highly doubt it has to do with any physical realism. More like aesthetics. Aesthetically, in my opinion, the keyboard looks wrong with all lower case letters.

They had it perfectly fine in iOS 6. Shift made the arrow blue or whatever, Caps Lock made the key look like it was glowing.

In addition to that, I hope they do something about the crashes as well, especially on my iPad. Safari seems to crash more than I have ever experienced in iOS 6.

I agree entirely. The likely reason for not allowing lowercase/uppercase letters on the keyboard is a style guide somewhere, not a designer's decision to screw everyone over.
