Not that problems did happen in the past, they did but I'm sure it was hell when it did, and having the fear of Steve Jobs freaking out was obviously a good motivator. He had an amazing ability to force people to get it done and do it right, at least his version of right. I so miss him:(

thank you! do you think me having restarted it mid download affected anything on the phone or no, because i just deleted the 8.01 update. Idk why i always feel weird restarting during updates.

You are fine, if it makes you feel better just turn the phone off and on, should clear any cache. I did the same thing by the way there is no data from the update!

Option+Click on “Check for Update” for Mac users, Alt+Click for Windows users (or Shift+Click for older iTunes versions)

Option + click doesn't work for me under yosemite preview 8

Tell me how to do it without plugging into a computer with iTunes? I am at work and Apple store is down the street. This was their update that made my phone a paperweight. They will fix it.

Plug your phone in and just click restore in iTunes, make sure your phone is backed up. They have pulled the update anyway so you don't have to worry.

This is the worst software mistake from Apple in a while.

I mean, seriously, TouchID and Verizon not working? It looks like no one tested it at all.

Remember, 8.01 was tested by all the Carriers as well. So this wasn't just missed by Apple.

How did all carriers miss something....I feel like it is apple there is no way all the carriers could have missed something this big. TouchID has nothing to do with cell settings either.

I'm in DFU mode. I tried option click to use my 8.0 IPSW and get the same error about not being able to use the build.

Getting the same thing. Even when trying to do a restore, it downloaded the file, and then failed because of build error.

Updated my iPhone 5 with iOS8.0.1 through iTunes and it's working just fine. Full cellular service on the Sprint Network, wi-fi is a full 3 bars, and battery life is excellent (as always). Love my :apple: iPhone 5!

This makes me think that it wasn't a problem with the build itself, but rather a packaging problem with the update, IE missing files, the wrong files (wrong library versions), etc.

It's very easy for a software build to work properly, but then fail to work when distributed because the packager screwed up.

I have the same conclusion .. I used OTA and got a broken phone
I was able to do an iTunes restore to 8.0.1 and it seems OK (I'm now reloading all my music)

I suspect someone broke the OTA packaging

Could be part carrier

Remember, 8.01 was tested by all the Carriers as well. So this wasn't just missed by Apple.

Could be part carrier, when I pr-ordered my 6 Plus 9/12 AT&T activated the new phone and my 5S lost service Monday morning 9/15. Just had to call AT&T and they got it back up.

That's why it may be a carrier issue or both. The carriers had the update to test for a while. I'm sure both Apple & the carriers will fix it ASAP!

Anyone have a solution to getting the "build error" when trying to downgrade to iOS 8, or even trying to install the iOS 8.0.1?

I would just like something to work so I can have my phone back now.

my 8.0.1 update will be done in 6 minutes. took over an hour to download. usually takes 10-15minutes but their servers are slammed for sure

If this were the case, then the update would likely brick the phone, lol.

could it be that you downloaded the wrong file for your phone?

iPhone 6 = 7,2
iPhone 6+ = 7,1

i accidentally downloaded the 6+ build first, but the correct link was posted in this thread as the first link was incorrect.
