Android updates have never been pulled? Yes they have, a few times. Here is but one recent example:

Also, why be so absolute in your "opinion" without even taking the simplest step of checking Google first? The saddest part is that I bet you're even quite a nice guy in real life.

Again, the scope is different. Not all Android devices were affected. Like I mentioned, read through the posts and the issue was primarily high battery usage, not a complete inability to use core functions of the phone.

My gripe is that if I ever need to restore  won't let me use the old version anymore.

So simply download the version of the IPSW file you find most favorable and save it somewhere. You can use that to restore through iTunes back to that version at any time.

That is plainly because Android is a fragmented platform, finding itself on all manner of devices by all manner of manufacturers and brands and middle men. Your retrospective reasoning that Android avoids widespread problems with upgrades is not because of the strength of its testing but because of the weakness of its ecosystem. Android avoids global issues by not being a consistent global platform and by being all things to all men. Maybe that's "its" strength: or should I say "their" strength?

I lost my trust for the first time in Apple.

Never updated to 8.0.1, went directly from 8.0 to 8.0.2

All my home folders went away, all apps are floating around out of folders, I had like 800+ app (don't ask why, I use a very big percentage of them) and arranging them again into folders is just a waste of time, why Apple!!!

Android is a Bul***t, will never switch due to such mishaps (if you are asking), I was happy with the Apple eco system and iCloud integration, but now I am just hesitant even to upgrade to iPhone 6, cancelled the idea.

what a waste of time...

Same story with iPad 3 I LOST ALL MY FOLDERS :mad::mad:

It's not all that surprising, if you take into account three things:

  • Text usually compresses to 1/10th it's size and binary data typically compresses to 1/3rd it's size. The more text in an upgrade, the greater the disparity between the compressed download file size and the uncompressed size on disk. Think of language resource files, that provide all the translations of the user interface.
  • File systems use fixed size blocks to hold portions of files. The larger the disk, the larger the block size tends to be. So if you have a small file, say an image icon, that's 400 bytes, then if the block size is 512 bytes, it will still take 512 bytes of disk space to hold that 400 byte file, using more than 25% additional space. If the block size is 4 KB, then it will take 10x as much space. So, many small files will take much more space on disk than they do packaged into a single download file.
  • Robust installation requires keeping all of the old files on the disk until the very last new file is in place, which doubles the disk space required. This is in addition to needing space for the compressed download file. So, at least 2x the disk space will need to very temporarily be available, to handle users losing power while installing, to not brick their phones.

All in, it could easily take 20x the space compared to the compressed installer. Depending on the nature of the files themselves, it could even take 200x more space.

I keep 10G free for updates. Doesn't everyone? You're just plain crazy if you don't.

Ok, let me put this another way. Give me an example in the last 3 years where Android, even localized to a single manufacturer, has had OTA rollout completely disable core functionality.

Apple fan boys to their best.even when apple messed up the blame still goes towards android lol lol. Stop having such a peasant attitude guys both platforms are amazing and copy each other to infinity..

Poor Leadership Apple

Somebody's probably already said it - I'm very late to this thread - but this is a reflection of the current Apple Leadership. This is what happens when a company becomes too large and the bad politics set in, and the lack of direction due to poor leadership etc. etc.
It's been said a thousand times, but the crap that has been going down at Apple would never have happened with Steve in charge.
:apple: = resting on its laurels

I updated... no problems... although not sure what changed in the first place

Most users I know have installed the patch without a problem. I've only heard of two where the result did not fix their lack of connectivity. They've been in contact with Apple and are just waiting at this point.

Of these two, one owner has his iPhone 5S to use, the other guy is screwed. Trusting Apple he sold his 5 the day after his 6 arrived. Just proves risk is lurking just around the corner.

Seriously? The 4 dropped calls if you touched it wrong, the 3G had a recessed earphone jack that sent angry millions out to buy new headphones or special jacks. The laptops burned up. It goes on and on. And just try to delete old texts taking up space they prevent updates. Have you seen that workaround? You must be from another planet if you're oblivious to all the backflips necessary to work these iPhones.
Victimized is how I felt after parting with $400 Sunday and spending all day Wednesday trying to get phone service. But I'm the fool here for sticking by this workaround, backflip company for all these years. Are you in this forum because you're looking for a fix or workaround or just to piss on those who are? This battery issue has gone on since day one and we're still hoping against hope over a decade later. But will Apple simply put a battery door on the phone? Amateurs! The best iPhone review I read was on CNet, "iPhone has a lot of really neat features, but none of them work very well."

This is an imperfect world, my friend. The sooner you realize this, the better you're off.

Recessed headphone jack, no battery door for replacement??? My goodness. These are some of your complaints?...these are DESIGN elements of the phone that made (and still do) an iPhone, well... an iPhone.

You always had the CHOICE to purchase or not. And by the strong tone (and harsh words) of your post, one would beg the question : who in the world with so much contempt for a company KEEPS COMING BACK AND BUYING ITS PRODUCTS????

The answer is simple. Don't buy Apple. Period. End of story. Move on.

But if you think you'll find the grass is greener on the other side, good luck my friend. Like I said, the sooner you realize that this is an imperfect world, the better off you'll be.

But I have a feeling that you'll soon be posting your contempt for Samsung, HTC, LG (or whichever phone you decide on) on their message boards.

Apple Releases iOS 8.0.2 With Fix for Cellular Issues, Broken Touch ID

I just pludged my iPhone 5 to 8.0.2. No issues so far. I made test calls and SMS to be sure there were no problems ;)

So how many of you with 6's (regular and plus) have installed 8.0.2 and had no problems, how many of you have a bricked cell signal, WIFI or whatever. I have been holding off since 8.0.1 issue and still wonder about 8.0.2 My phone works fine (6 Plus, 128 GB) andI do not want that to have issues. Gonna wait awhile longer and see what is going on.

thanks

Uh-Oh :-(

Okay, so Mrs. EDJ update iPhone6+ and I updated my iPhone 6. I had zero problems. Very happy camper.

Mrs. EDJ, however, now has issues. When she tries to play a music playlist and it hits a purchased song, a dialog box asks for the Apple ID Password (Does not specify which ID - hers, mine, joint). She enters it, and it is accepted, but it skips that song and plays the next in line until she hits another one that causes a dialog box to pop up requesting the Apple ID password to be entered.

It also keeps popping up the dialog box when she tries to open up her iPad Mini II (retina display) after her commute home. Repeatedly.

Anyone else experiencing this delightful frustration?

Never did get to upgrade 8.0.1. But I waited today for issues that may have come up.For 8.0.2. OTA download on my iPhone 6 128GB VZ. After one minor crash on Twitter app. Everything seems to be running great.
I was afraid of and problems, yes I admit it, I was afraid.

Yes, Apple has had some bruising. First, the bugs in the health app and now the pulled patch but I am very happy with my iPhones I've had over the years and am not letting this darken my opinion of Apple's products.

I upgraded 1 of three iPhones. Now when I call any one of three iPhones they all ring. It does not matter which of the three numbers you call they all ring. Any ideas how to fix this issue? I restarted all devices at least 3 times.

Alan

Not handsoff, its continuity.

You may have to select only one number of one phone and deselect the other number in your FaceTime settings. You need to do this for each device. Rightnow i think all your 3 numbers are registered under same iCloud ID, you need to separate that.

I have the same problem. My phone rings, my iPad Air rings and my iMac rings, all at once. But cant apply the same solution I you gave, as iMac & iPad don't have cellular numbers, so for me at the max i can select number for my iPhone, iCloud ID for either iPad or iMac. Thats solves it partly.

same EDJ from mbworld.org? Oh jesus I'm leaving

My only complaint so far is the terrible battery life on my current iphone 6. My old iphone 5 lasted a lot longer.
