Surely we won't know till the next update?

Apple doesn't say how much the required space was reduced, but we were able to install it on a 16GB iPad mini that only had 445MB of space available. Earlier updates required using iTunes on a Mac or PC to update this iPad.

No this update required less space to install. The key being not the size of the update but the size of free space required to unpack and update the iOS while its running. That was the issue that was addressed.

Updated a 6 Plus, 5s and two iPad 4's. Everything went smoothly.

But if he comes back, Maps will suck again.

It doesn't really matter. I use Google Maps. And he is not the reason map sucked. It takes time to mine data to improve maps. People would understand that if they knew how Maps information works in the first place.

Will updating remove my jailbreak? --- I want to remove it, it's slowed my iPhone down so much.

Actually... how do you update over the air with it jailbroken? Or is iTunes the only way? :)

You need to update via iTunes, and it will remove your jailbreak.

What's wrong in updating again?

Why? What great logic is that? This update has been tested for a while.
8.1.2 was the worst out of all 8.x.x updates anyway, not including the one that messed up the signal and Touch ID on iPhone 6.

I just have better stuff to do then upgrading my devices constantly. But what the heck. I can do it again. The next version 8.2 seems to be around the corner as well.

True. That city mistaken as a hospital was obviously a data problem. Forstall should have at least signed the apology letter for Maps anyway even if he wasn't responsible. That pretty much sealed his fate to losing his job. I feel sorry for him wherever he is right now.

Please fix all the problems related to third party keyboards in iMessage!! Getting tired!

The stock keyboard in split mode is buggy all hell on iPad still. They can't even get 1st party keyboard support working in what should be the simplest of apps.

Still can't write App Store reviews with a 3rd-party keyboard. This is laughable at this point.

Update: Just experienced the bug where Messages screen gets stuck when switching to it from another application while using a 3rd-party keyboard. Downgrading back to 8.1.2 to keep my jailbreak.

Over the air update here whilst waiting for my dinner in the hotel restaurant. All went just fine. Another wonderful release.

Not sure if they have really reduced the amount of free space needed to unpack and install the OTA updates. But somehow iOS 8.1.3 freed up 600+ MB for me.

God please fix that huge "other" file nonsense. I've done everything for multiple restores to app cleaning cache to DFU restore and it ALWAYS comes back around 3GB.

The naysayers always tell me that it is the OS itself, and that is not true since the OS is already accounted for before the user fills up with their own data i.e. apps music and such.

The Other category contains data individual apps create or download. For example, podcasts downloaded with a (third-party) podcast client contribute to it. The same applies to movies you streamed from the iTunes store, they stay cached on the device. By which method they eventually get purged again is unclear (you can manually purge them via Mac applications like iBrowse). I have been able to attribute about 95% of my Other category to these two kinds of data (podcasts and streamed movies) with the remaining 5% presumably coming from other apps that similarly download stuff and store it.
