Apple Releases iOS 8.1 With Apple Pay Support, SMS Relay, Camera Roll, and More

I actually just got this text too... I also used my old iPhone 5s SIM in my new T-Mobile iPhone 6 plus. I have a feeling this was triggered by the 8.1 update. Does anyone have any insight into this? Everything is working fine, so I'd rather not even be bothered going to the att store unless there is a real need for a new SIM

I've gotten it three times already. I'm starting to feel like I have a stalker.

I haven't noticed any missing functionality yet. I wish AT&T would disable this because:

1) It confuses non-technical people who see this despite their phone working right.
2) It will cause wasted retail employee times in the stores needlessly swapping sim cards.
3) It's just annoying.

Handoff won't work for me, and yes, I tried all that ****...
A1429 iPhone5 and Late 2013 rMBP, all up to date.

8.1 Installation hung on iPad Air

8.1 installation stuck on my iPad Air (1st gen). It's hung on the black screen with Apple logo and white progress bar. Progress bar is about 95% across and has been stuck there for about 30 minutes. Don't know what to try next.

8.1 update all fine but no SMS on ipad

I've updated iphone6 and ipad air but the SMS relay doesn't work from ipad. Anyone got the same problem?

Problem solved: On your iOS (Iphone) device there is now a Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding section.

iOS 8.1 Install Error on iPhone 5S:

I was updating my iPhone 5S (8.0.2) to the new update (8.1) and now I have an install error. Tried restarting and that did not help. Hopefully I don't have to visit the Apple store.

Fall back to iTunes when you can - it'll download the complete 8.1 image (not just the differences like the OTA update does) and use it, should get you fixed up.

Cool!
Might not be faster. But it's a whole lot safer. Period.

As for the 'not any faster' part, it's because you are buying a $1.50 item that doesn't require a pin or signature. Compare the speed to a $200 Macy,s purchase where they require an ID and a sig.

As for the vending machine, now you can rest assured that even if someone is skimming card swipes that your CC number (and identity) are safe. So even if not faster, it's infintiely safer since vending machines just sit out in the open.

And how nice that Macy's or whoever doesn't get to know that you were there or what you purchased, unless you want them too. And you still get all your associated CC points/rewards.

I can't get text message forwarding to work. It asks me for the code being displayed on my iPad, and the code never appears.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. You won't find a "fix" for that in this update. For the most part, reviews say Touch ID is even more reliable than in last years model. Perhaps a better sensor, among other factors.

Maybe erase your Touch ID fingerprints and start over with new prints. I'm sure you read the instructions on-screen and this goes without saying -- but make sure you try to lift your thumb and move it around a bit to vary what part of your thumb was being scanned. You can also add "additional fingers", but instead scan your most used thumb again so it has two (or more) profiles.

It really should be working almost all of the time. 20% is just not right. If this still doesn't fix it, you should really consider taking it in, as the other person said. That's not normal behavior at all.

I've redone all my prints twice. Have 4 different fingers set up. 8.1 seems to have improved it, but it's not as great as everyone has said how theirs works. My friend has the same issues with Touch ID being super finicky on his 6+ as well. If Touch ID continues to suck for the next week or two, maybe I will take it in.

Update: I had to do a hard reset (home + power button). When it started back up it asked if I wanted to do an upgrade. The upgrade took about 15 seconds and then all was fine. About screen says 8.1 is installed.

I added both my CapOne and AMEX. However, for the AMEX I could not get it to work with the photo capture, and had to enter the number manually. I think it is because it couldn't read the numbers on top of the centurion guy in the middle. Anyone else ran into this issue?

My AMEX was easy, used camera and followed with EXP and security code.

WiFi Bug

Half way through the quick download and the WiFi bug kicks in. Reboot, Reconnect. At least Apple are smart enough to have the download pick up where it left off.

Now this update is the real Boy Scout of code. It be preparing forever.....

Oh I don't think so, Apple. I think I'll sit this one out for a few hours. The last time I downloaded an update so quickly, my phone stopped functioning as a phone. I will let others try this first, and then maybe I'll feel it is safe to proceed.

As a 'wise man' once said, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can’t get fooled again.”

You better put the sarcastic quotes around wise man for that.. we know who the quote is by. lol.

Just updated whilst i was at uni - SMS relay works fine for me, as does handoff and receiving calls; 8.1 seems a lot smoother. Using a 2012 15" rMBP and an iPhone 5.
