Worked just fine on my 1st gen ipad mini, but borked my iphone 4s, reducing it to the "connect to itunes" screen. Can't do that 'til I get home from work. Bleah. Good thing I backed up this morning.

My iPad Air did not like this update.

After it completed, I was entering my 4 digit pass code and it froze. Then it freaked out and the screen went black. None of the buttons worked. Then I freaked out.

Only by holding the power and home button down for 5 seconds did I get it to reboot up.

Just used Apple Pay to buy a coke from the vending machine. Worked great, except for the fact the vending machine said it does "not accept Mastercard Debit" when I used my default card. Switched to my BOA credit card and it worked right away. Pretty cool.

Installed 8.1 on both my 5s and ipad air and yosemite on my MBP and handoff, sms/call relay and instant hotspot working perfectly between all three devices, but I don't see the 2G/3G/4G option on my iphone, maybe with a carrier update will show up.

Never update an iPhone to a version of iOS that's three versions past what it shipped with. People that go against this rule will always end up with a slow iPhone. The 4s shipped with iOS 5, and you got 6 and 7, both of which ran well on it. 8 is a bridge too far.

Then bloody Apple shouldn't offer it.

Now that you have it booted back up, how is it running? Wifi OK? Safari?

painless OTA update here (iPhone 6).

i will say that Apple used to be fairly accurate with their "time remaining" progress bars (when compared to Microsoft), however, my last two installs (8.1, Yosemite) have been all over the place and rather inaccurate. :/

Flipping heck, vending machines accepting debit and credit cards and ApplePay, where do you live, I know it's the US but it sounds like Tokyo.

ApplePay is going to have a heck of a time catching on here in the UK, or most of Europe I should think too, only one place I know of around here that even has NFC and that's a small shop near me.

I haven't been in a mall in the US in several years that didn't have a vending machine that supported credit cards and NFC.

No need for BlueTooth for SMS

I did not know this, but you just need to be on the same WiFi network to take advantage of SMS Handshake? You don't need the devices to be connected via Bluetooth.

Evidently I need to find a new bar. I waved my phone at the bartender when she handed me my bill and walked out, like a boss!!!

Based upon the three bouncers chasing me out the door, it did not work!

But it did just work at McDonalds!

8.1 still fails to fix proxy bug

Introduced with IOS 7 is a bug that prevents IOS from remembering/using the log/pass for authenticated proxies.

This bug means when I am at work I can get 30 plus requests a day from my iPhone 5s asking me to put in my log/pass for the proxy.

Apple has acknowledged the bug, they said that it would get fixed in the next release of IOS, well IOS 7.1.2 came and went, so did IOS 8 and IOS 8.0.2 and now IOS 8.1 and the bug has not been fixed.

One solution is to turn wifi off and use cellular data.

The other is to return the iPhone as a faulty product and get my money back.

I have already recommended that my work (a University) stops buying iPhones and iPads because of this issue, we have zero interest in having class sets needing cellular data simply because Apple has shown no interest in fixing a software bug. Its hard enough justifying Apple products at my work, but this sort of crap removes any credibility Apple has.

Its been over a year with this bug, I know its there, the other IT people know its there, the Purchasing people know its there, exactly how do you ask anyone to go out and buy tens of thousands of dollars of faulty items... you can't.

Oh and don't say get rid of the proxy, the ONLY products that fail to work with the proxy are IOS 7 and IOS 8 (IOS 6 works!) and early Android products that did not support proxies. With modern products, it is only IOS that fails.

I updated to 8.1 on my 6 Plus with no problems. I also added 2 of my 3 cards without a problem. Now to actually get to use :apple:Pay... That will have to wait until I get back to civilization. LOL! I work in a small town that is about the equivalent of Mayberry, the general store next door doesn't even take credit or debit cards or checks, they are cash only. The coffee shop just started taking credit cards and they use Square on an iPad to take the payments. It's an interesting little town.

Anyway, I bank with Bank of America so my debit card was my default iTunes card and it was added automatically, only had to enter the security code. I then added my Capital One MasterCard by scanning it and it was easily added as well. Couldn't add my Barclay Bank card, hopefully that comes soon!

Now to test the SMS and handoff functionality when I get home from work tonight, hoping it works as seamlessly as everything else has today for me. My only complaint is that either/or on Camera Roll or iCloud Photo. Oh, well. That's actually not too big of an issue because in the past few weeks I've pretty much gotten used to Collections and Moments. Hope everyone is out there enjoying your new phones and buying things everywhere that NFC is accepted! :D

I live outside of Boston and most of the drink machines have card swipers with NFC

Haha, south Louisiana :). I was surprised it even worked, the card reader was actually broken.

Tried to add 4 different credit/debit cards to Apple Pay. Only Capital One worked. The one with the highest interest rate that I rarely use. Still, I'll probably use it to buy something I don't need today, just because.

NFC is a lot more wide spread than you think.

Apple pay is about increasing the SECURITY of the transaction (the retailer, the machine doesn'T have any info from you) and to be able to not have to fiddle with 20 cards... Yes, I have that many ;-). Even if they steal your phone or you lose it, they still don't have the credit cards and bank cards, you don't have to reissue them all.
