This is a nice looking piece of equipment but for the life of me I can't figure out what purpose it serves...
If this product came with multitasking or the ability to install applications from OS X in .dmg format I could see a use, however all this is right now is an over-sized iPod Touch that becomes an ebook reader (sorry ibook reader). There is no built in iChat or video chat or even a microphone for that sort of thing. .
It's an iPod touch, more accurately, with 3G capability. Lacking a camera, lacking a decent screen - sorry Apple, but in today's HD world, anything less than a 10.1" 1280x720 screen on such a device is basically unacceptable, really. No mic either, so much for Skype or VoIP usage - of course the headphone jack might support that but, it doesn't say anything in the specs.
And sticking it to buyers again with no expansion or an SD card slot which pretty much every other damned device in the same concept/class has had for years. Want more space? PAY US FOR IT. Pretty lame, Apple.
I was actually really excited for this device, but it doesn't support Flash so it is completely useless for EVERYTHING I wanted to use it for. It's amazing how one little feature you take for granted is left out of the iPhone and now the iPad.
Think about it. Doctor's couldn't effectively show medical information to patients on a small little iphone. It's too small. Way too ineffective. But now, with bigger touch screen it will make it awesome. You could so use all those good anatomy apps way more easily now.
That is where the dollars are going to be.

I'm a little ambivalent on it. But the confusing thing for me is understanding why or how in the world this took 'years' to develop? I don't see anything that would have required so long to create. the form factor is basically a stretched ipod, OS is iPhone, etc.
What a bunch a cry babies. If you don't want one, don't buy one.
Hey, listen much? its unlocked buddy.
I can think of three people off the top of my head that, when their Dell desktops die, this will be a more than ample replacement.
Actually, it's assisted GPS, like in the original iPhone. It uses nearby cell towers & Wi-Fi hotspots to try to triangulate your position. I find that on the original iPhone, this is iffy. Sometimes, it gets you within a few feet, or if you're in a building, right outside. Sometimes, it's several hundred yards away.
This is a giant iPhone, there's no other way to put it. You can love it, you can hate it but in the end it is a giant iPhone.
Not revolutionary at all.
this question is so dumb. the ipad has a microphone. why don't you complain about that because who records music on an ipad.![]()
Did I miss it, or steve just left McGraw-Hill out of the presentation...
That's strange, my netbook has:
-A trimmed down Core 2 based processor with 2GB RAM
-250GB of storage
-6 hours of battery life
-Can run the full x86 library of apps
-I can download/install apps without going through the App Store
-I can save, edit, and upload documents, pdfs, presentations, spreadsheets etc.
-I can browse the entire internet, including flash
-It has a better resolution
-It can read SD card info, meaning I can move photos from my camera onto it to edit or store
-It has USB slots, meaning I can charge other devices, read from external storage, and even tether a phone
-Oh yeah, it even multi tasks!
Oh, and it's priced less than the cheapest iPad which has fraction of those capabilities. So tell me again, how did netbooks get killed?
why the frick wont they give us week-view calendar on the iPhone?
Overall a nice product, very disappointed with the oversized bezel, really.
are you kidding? have you not surfed the internet in the last ten years?
sooo much content now is based on flash. i can't believe you don't realize that.
