I love it. People are so predictable: Again, here are the general steps surrounding an Apple product release.

1.) Insane Hype
2.) Apple releases a great product
3.) People are expecting the Messiah, yet only get a great product
4.) People bitch about any and every little thing
5.) Stock dips
6.) Apple sells tons of new device, outperforms expectations, outpaces rest of market.
7.) Stock surges
8.) Aforementioned people now can't stop exalting the previously hated device.
9.) Rumors of new product
10.) Repeat 1 - 9

Did I miss the part where it won't work on T-mobile? Why not?

Wrong radio frequencies for their 3G signals. Won't be able to pick them up.

It's possible it could work on T-Mobile EDGE. That probably requires some form of jailbreaking, I'd guess, which doesn't exist yet, of course.

What kind of statements?

Some dude said that Steve Jobs was being greedy because AT&T was charging too much.

I pointed out that AT&T's profits don't go to Steve.

What do you "hate" about that?

Apple have been reported as having a kick-back arrangement with AT&T. I don't know if it ended or not with the 3G, there was a rumour that it may.

At first I was excited, rolling with the hype and setting expectations that this device failed to deliver.
iPad - where is the stylus? How can you take hand-written notes? How are you supposed to use it as a "pad?" A notepad? To take notes in class? How does that work? Typed notes?

I was really hoping it'd have a stylus so I could use it as a notebook (paper notebook to take notes in school...) Without a stylus or a way of recognizing handwriting, how the heck are we supposed to use this device to take notes in class? You'd say "there's an app for that - Pages.." but no, what about writing down math, chemistry, physics notes...sketching a quick graph and plot a few points, etc.

To me, it's just a giant glorified iPod Touch/iPhone(minus phone). Steve's most exciting product of his career? Hard to believe. Over-hyped? You bet.
:(

B!tch, whine, moan, god, happy now? http://tenonedesign.com/stylus.php

it is 60 Days to go... They will put multitasking in until than by software i am 100% certain!

They had to wait with iPhone OS Updates because of the iPad code bits! We will most definatly see an iPhone 4.0 OS before end of march. BOOM.

It will fulfill all dreams but the chatcam...

And 3rd PARTIES will certainly develop desktop like APPS for it, too! Apple totally understands how to do it.

There will be Photoshop, drawing Apps, Video editing Apps and so on all delivered by the DEVS.

Apple just opened a whole new Field for xcoders to develop in, an they are going to come and PLAY

REALLY DISAPPOINTED
by this
IPAD
it is a 9.7 ipod touch
nothing new
nothing revolutionary
where is MULTITASKING..
STEVE JOBS SAID ITS A HYBRID BETWEEN IPHONE AND MAC
SOO APPLE YOUR TRYING TO MAKE A COMPUTER
AND YOU CANT BLOODY LET PEOPLE OPEN 2 APPLICATIONS...AT THE SAME TIME
WHATS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS
Really disappointed
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
i second that... and say It shoulda been just like a macbook but only the screen... and it shoulda been based on Snow Leopard not the iPhone OS... EPIC FAIL... IF you already have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Macbook

Most people who buy computers these days use them for web browsing, IM, Facebook, games, YouTube, music etc.

iPhone apps are hugely popular.

Flashy touch screens are hugely popular.

iWork gives it a practical purpose, and will make it more attractive to students and business people. So will the newspaper apps. And book app/store.

It will sell.

Well said. I agree with you. I'm not one that is buying it though. I'm a bit more advanced in my computer usage needs.

Multitouch and an accelerometer.

The number of current apps on the store that wouldn't exist in their current form without these 2 things is very, very large.

Oh crap, you mean to tell me I can pinch zoom and turn it sideways? WHY DIDN'T YOU GUYS TELL ME THIS EARLIER?!?!?!

Jeez, great selling points.

FCC Approval

I think it's interesting to see that on the video on Apple's website, at the end shows that it is not yet FCC approved, and that it may not be launched due to this. However, when looking at the photos of the iPad, the back shows the FCC approval logo. Are Apple allowed to advertise their products with FCC approval, even if they haven't got it?

Hummmm... There's one to think about. However, I believe that this is a neat piece of kit, and being a total MacHead myself, I will be purchasing one on launch day. The only downside to me is the fact that it's still not a standalone platform... You still have to use a computer to access or print files that you may create on iWork.

It's going to be great however for University lectures. No more note taking on masses amount of paper, or a lumpy laptop that runs out of battery 3 hours into my classes. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Did they say anything about using a bluetooth keyboard with it or you need a stupid dock/keyboard hybrid?

I was hoping to buy it until... No Multitasking??? No SMSing? .. Im ready to let go of anything, .. i jus wished it had multitasking..

btw, Everyone in the world has been yelling "Multitasking" for iphone OS. Whats really the issue here? why dont they listen? We're not asking for a projector or something.. this is pissing me off..!

Does it? does it REALLY?

if by multitasking, you mean it takes long enough between switching activities that you could have just shut one down and started the other one up... yeah, i guess it multi-tasks.

Strange, I can run iTunes, use AIM, and have 10 Chrome browsers open all at once, and even play a video in the background

Maybe if you're still using 2 year old netbooks you'd have problems, but anything recent will run just fine

No OS improvements

The lack of any substantial OS improvements is a huge oversight - it's just too limited for something like this.

You can't download files from the internet.

There is no consolidated place to store a users files. Files are not accessible between apps. What is their solution for managing documents you create with iWork?

You can't open more than one app at one time - even the small, iPhone versions.

There's no windows. That makes it feel like there is no depth to the OS. Apps open against a black backdrop - not even a dimmed snapshot of the homescreen (although it's less of an issue as iPad-compatible apps are updated/released).

It has the same home screen and dock that we've seen since 2007.

Pop-up notifications still!

I think it's a great device and I totally want to have one in my hands. However, am I the only one who things the screen "frame" or "bezel" is way too thick? It makes it look a bit cheaper than it should be, even the iPhone has a very thin bezel! But I guess it could get thinner in later releases... But everything else is perfect I think, especially the price! I was seriously expecting at least $1000!

The thick bezel is for HOLDING ONTO THE THING WITH ONE HAND! Everyone keeps bringing this up... but think about it... you can't put a hand all the way around it, so if you're standing up and need to click something / scroll a page you're going to need to grip the edge in one hand and click with the other.

If there was no thick bezel you couldn't grip the edge with one hand without accidentally tapping the touch sensitive screen!

The only thing missing for me is the camera for iChat. But that's not going to keep me from picking one up.

I have a 17" MBP and an iPhone 3G. But I'm a fairly serious pro/am photographer that needs something to look at photos in the field on. Plus... in the evenings I find myself using my iPhone to read websites instead of my MBP. This would fill that niche well.

I just hope someone comes out with a rugged skin / cover for it. I want to take it skiing with me in the back country for photography...

So goodbye 10 hour battery life. Say HELLLLLO to carrying around that car/wall charger everywhere you go.

It's the cycle of Loathe.

...but the screen is not HD (1024 x 768).

No file system?

TV and Video
Support for 1024 x 768 with Dock Connector to VGA adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Composite A/V Cable, 576i and 480i with Apple Composite A/V Cable

Last time I checked, 720p was HD

Apple have been reported as having a kick-back arrangement with AT&T. I don't know if it ended or not with the 3G, there was a rumour that it may.

For the iPhone which is subsidized AND requires a 2 year contract.

The iPad has neither of those things. I can't see why AT&T would be giving Apple money when those things don't exist.

Hey, LTD ("the iPad is a netbook killer"), read this:

That's strange, my netbook has:

-A trimmed down Core 2 based processor with 2GB RAM
-250GB of storage
-6 hours of battery life
-Can run the full x86 library of apps
-I can download/install apps without going through the App Store
-I can save, edit, and upload documents, pdfs, presentations, spreadsheets etc.
-I can browse the entire internet, including flash
-It has a better resolution
-It can read SD card info, meaning I can move photos from my camera onto it to edit or store
-It has USB slots, meaning I can charge other devices, read from external storage, and even tether a phone
-Oh yeah, it even multi tasks!

Oh, and it's priced less than the cheapest iPad which has fraction of those capabilities. So tell me again, how did netbooks get killed?
