Spaz, you and I both know that Apple has bigger fish to fry right now. So what if somethings off a few pixels in a beta that the public wont ever see. It wont be that way when 3.0 is actually released.

That's what I was thinking too, but there's always the small chance that it could get into the final version and I would hate for that to happen so I submitted the bug. I hope it's a bug and not a design choice. If it were done by choice then I could see them not fixing it for the final version but, I'm 99% sure it's a visual bug.

is it me or has anyone else found that when you receive a mms you dont get the picture the preview anymore (when the phone was locked my received mms would always show the picture).

Bricked

Mine appears to be bricked this time. I tried to install the update, and I immediately got the plug in to iTunes screen with a pink background.

Trying to restore from iTunes gives me a 1604 error.

That's kind of a good thing. Do you want to be showing someone your iPhone and then a naked body part comes up on your screen because a friend is messing with you?

its a right ice breaker tho, haha

Well, here's my iPhone. Check out cover flow... POP! Whoa! Oh, who's that naked girl you ask? That's my girlfriend. She's even nice with clothes on too. Anyways... coverflow...

I was hoping Beta 5 would fix an issue I'm having, but alas it did not.

With 3.0, Apple put a nice new automatic wi-fi authentication feature in place. If you're not familiar with this feature, it basically removes the annoying website log in that many wireless hotspots require you to do before getting internet access. When you connect to a wi-fi hotspot that requires this type of authentication, a screen automatically appears and displays the log in page without your having to open it up in Safari, and then you can have it remember the login credentials (I assume).

The problem is that my work wi-fi has a log in page like that, but for some reason it isn't loading properly within the automatic log in screen that pops up. In Beta 4 I would just see a blank screen, and in Beta 5 I now get an error that says there was a problem opening the page.

The big problem is that the only option I have at this point is to cancel the connection. I can't even do the normal Safari browser authentication. So there is now no way for me to connect to my work wi-fi.

I really hope this gets fixed with an update soon because my office gets really poor cell phone reception, and I rely on the wi-fi to check my email throughout the building.

You should report that if you have not already.

MMS settings

Hi, I've installed beta 5, everything works great including tethering but no MMS, not even the option in Settings/Messages. Does anyone have this working on a Rogers iphone.

Sparky

Update:

Ok, got it to work with updating the carrier data again with a different file found on the net. I will send it to whom ever wants it. Everything seems to work quite fine, MMS and Tethering

I'm having the same problem with some WiFi captive portals. It would definitely be nice to have an option to disable this feature for selected networks. I'm not submitting this as a bug, as I don't have clear steps to tell Apple how to reproduce it. I can't tell them to fly over to Switzerland and show them which WiFi access point is triggering the problem :) and if a problem can't be reproduced it will be ignored.

Do you really think Steve would ever allow that to happen?

Apple pays more attention to visuals than arguably any other company out there.

someone has to report it for them to find out about it and fix it...so it WILL be there in final release if they odn't know it's a problem

oh thats funny:p

Because no one at apple has eyes....

Yeah. Are they going to change the voice notes icon? They have eyes but what makes me right compared to them? I don't like it, but what if they DO like the current graphics? I sure hope they fix it.

Beta 5 is working

Just updated to Beta 5 and everything worked fine. My MMS and Tethering options are both selectable. Tethering works fine just like Beta 4.

Talking with other developers, we've noticed several variations in "Beta experience". One had trouble with beta 4 loading on a new mac. Another had trouble loading on XP. Both are now working after borrowing a friends computers to complete process. We believe it was a fundamental problem with the USB port driver version. I plug my iPhone into a Monitor USB Hub, which is linked to a new Mac Mini. I've never had a error or trouble during update and count myself lucky.

Good luck to everyone....

I need the carrier file you've spoken of... Please!

Same here :)

It seems that MMS is hit-or-miss for upgraders. I kept getting errors with the old 8.2 iTunes, installed the new one which finally let me install it. Tethering is here for me, but Cellular Data and MMS are not to be found.

Some things I've found:

Dictionary.com app still crashes on startup. Hasn't worked on any of the betas as far as I know.

Need for Speed still doesn't have sound effects in 3.0.

The Spotlight keyboard bug where pressing the home button while pressing a button on the keyboard would cause it to stay on the screen is now fixed.

Trying to restore from iTunes gives me a 1604 error.

I was successful in going back to beta 4. Finally I have a phone again. Others have said that by re-installing the SDK (if you have a mac) and then upgrading, that seemed to work too. Good Luck

Cellular data network configuration

ok so i updated to the att 5 carrier file and have my cellular data network available in settings but it just has wap.cingular in each thing. does anyone have the correct configuration for this?? PLEASE!!

tethering?

to anyone who has been using tethering for a while now, has At&Tcharged you any crazy extra fee's, or does the tethering data use just fall under the same regular data use on safari and such (for now)?

For all with ATT and Beta 5.

1) Go to Settings

2) General

3) Network

4) Cellular Data

5) MMSC enter "mmsc.cingular.com" without quotes

6) Proxy - 066.209.011.032

7) restart the phone!

You should have MMS now working. If not then.... Sorry!

NO GUARANTEE! It worked for me though!

Can Confirm this method Works! Thanks a ton SAG!
