Aw! I got sent a present from O2 :) I wonder if its worth 4 texts from my bundle sending them one back to say thanks? ;)
 
I am thinking or wondering now, if the reason the long wait for the backup of the iPhone after installing 3.0 is because of the server use by everyone updating. Maybe this will go faster in future back ups? What do you think?

Yes, I am getting the SAME message as others, on a 2G iphone.

I THINK the issue is, if there is an update, IF there is a RESTORE (Which I had to do thank you apple)
then it MUST do a confirmation with the itunes STORE for activation authorization. And, that STORE is OVERLOADED at the moment, since everyone global is trying to update.

So, it is a network access issue I think.

another reason to WAIT till like 23:00 PST or something.

update. My phone just said ACTIVATED, but it isn't customized with my STUFF. It is updated to 3.0, but it really isn't my phone now is it, I will have to WAIT to restore at some point

Hang in there! Just keep trying! I got this error messages too and after three tries of unplugging and plugging the iPhone back to the sync cable, it finally was able to activate it.

At least someone gets an MMS option. I know it won't work, because I'm on AT&T, but I'd like the option to at least be there.. grrr.
 
Everything worked fine for me with upgrading.

I first plugged in the iPhone with the previous version of iTunes, it backed up and synced. I changed some of my music. Then I clicked "check for updates" and it saw the 3.0 update and said I needed iTunes 8.2 so I downloaded and installed that. Then when i started iTunes again it backed up and synced my iPhone a second time. Finally I was able to download and install the update.

I've tried all my applications except the games and none of them crash. Some even feel a little bit snappier. I'm just waiting for AIM with push.
 
Will all my old apps work on 3.0? For example i have "Galcon" and in the AppStore it doesn't say that it was tested under 3.0....

It's 257.1MB for my 2nd gen iPod touch-downloading it now.

Looking forward to using all the new or enhanced features it adds-like Bluetooth on my iPod touch.
 
Very weird. I was getting the -4 error continually, then out of frustration I just disconnected the iPhone in iTunes and unplugged it and got a friendly "iPhone activated" message on the phone.

Works now!

I got the same. First I was pretty surprised and mumbled something, but then it worked. :D

Looks like the servers are being pushed to the breaking point today... I do not think is to be unexpected.;) :p

i had the last beta version..... beta 5 i believe...

i didnt get the GM version... when i connect my iphone it tells me that 3.0 is the current version even though im on build 7a312g..... :mad:

i am downloading from the direct link posted earlier... taking ages...

also is the 3.0 sdk now free for everyone?
