Hang in there! Just keep trying! I got this error messages too and after three tries of unplugging and plugging the iPhone back to the sync cable, it finally was able to activate it.
For the last time, 3GS ONLY.

Very weird. I was getting the -4 error continually, then out of frustration I just disconnected the iPhone in iTunes and unplugged it and got a friendly "iPhone activated" message on the phone.
Works now!
I have a battery %.. but i think it's because i updated while jailbroken.
This is what I keep on getting![]()
...
also is the 3.0 sdk now free for everyone?
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.

Unfortunately, that's not an error - it's windows. Common mistake ;-)
I've tried to click update at least 15 times and keep seeing the same error message:
"...iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable."
It took two tries and now the whole thing is in Dutch language - my Indbakke is full. What happened ???? I guess I will have to do a Restore after all.
by letting my phone do a sync-backup, I lost 2 weeks of info (text, phone contacts and cal)I am thinking or wondering now, if the reason the long wait for the backup of the iPhone after installing 3.0 is because of the server use by everyone updating. Maybe this will go faster in future back ups? What do you think?
100% AGREED! Nothing annoys me more then when my phones goto into coverflow mode when Im driving.
i fixed it by putting my iPhone into restore mode. but i was going to restore anyway. i already had the gm but i wanted a fresh install because i never did a fresh install with betas.
I hate that too. I pull up to a drive through or get a phone call and reach over to my iPod Touch to pause it and it is in cover flow mode (which is only good for showing off IMO as it has not other value that I can think of) and so I either have to find the tiny little play/pause soft button in a corner or stand it up and pause it where I am used to pausing it. I don't know WHY they don't put this as an option in settings.
Love that SMS preview is now off by default...[/QUOTE
