Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0

Download the update...during extraction disconnect from internet. This should avoid any issues with the authentication server. Had to do that for mine and now 3.0 is up and running! Loving it so far... not sure if the $400 is worth it to get video and a compass. Most likely will wait til Feb. 2010 for my full upgrade.

I had a bit of this as well. I thankfully had an outlet to charge it

I believe I had this with the last major update though

You simply have to log into your guest account on your computer (or create another user) to activate and then go back to your main account. You can read the above link for details. I used the guest account and it worked.

Yoppie!!! that worked great... sorry about the late reply but i've just got back from the "lift" giving... did all that and it worked perfect... your a life saver because i was basically out the door at that stage with nothing else in mind!... at least i've got my iphone back working now, and for the update.... it's the anti climax i was expecting, oh well....

hope everythings still working with you... thanks again! :D

Dude, no offense, but where have you been? This was announced weeks ago. I understand the outrage though. A few more months for tethering/mms is really a waste

No MMS with At&t yet later this summer ... Who knows when we'll get tethering:rolleyes:

Original iPhone: No compass, no battery life...

I noticed that the software didn't give me a compass, perhaps on purpose.

Also, my battery just burned up once I loaded 3.0. For some reason the phone is engaged in some activity that tears through energy... is it because it's remaining connected to wifi and the signal is weak? In 2.0 off campus where ATT signal is strong, the battery lasted a long time, but on campus ATT's signal is weak and always made my battery run down during a business day. Maybe this problem is magnified in 3.0?
 
Errr!!

Damn all you guys for downloading 3.0!! I found the gold master leak on the web more than a week ago and had been using the 3.0 OS problem free ever since. Until today all of you guys joined the party and brought apple's servers to a screeching halt!!!

I have rebooted my iphone and do not seem to have the problem of the battery draining. See if that works
 
Oh, PS.. Anyone have a list of apps that have push implemented at this time? I want to start Testing. The two that I have so far are AP mobile and Tap Tap Revenge 2. Haven't tested them yet but will let you guys Know

Where was this announced.???.. and when i spoke to at&t a few days ago they mentioned nothing about it. I have a friend that just went on contract 6 weeks ago because everyone knew the 3.0 would have mms..... they REALLY need to stop this secretive, lets not tell anyone anything garbage.... it causes too much confusion. I just got off the phone with Apple and even their techs can't tell me what is going on, and even what 3.0 features work with the 3g and the 3gs........ seems a shame.

This is actually a function of how a cell phone works. When you have excellent signal, you need very little energy in order to talk to the tower, however, when your signal is marginal, the transmitter boosts signal power in order to talk to the tower.

This means if your signal is marginal you will use more power.

ummm...everwhere they have been hiding it....in fact apple made form of att during the keynote for it...open you eyes and read the news

Once the firmware was update I re-connected. The iPhone got an SMS saying it was activated. Makes me think it was activated over the air.
 
so when are the apps like TomTom and Meebo hitting the app store? this seems rather anticlimactic having the software but no apps to take advantage of it

Oh I can understand that... lets do it last minute.... I will gripe to at&t about it.. but at least when the salesman calls me in the next few days i dont have to buy his phones..... I have a tech crew of 8 waiting to get iphones.. the only reason they dont have them yet is they need mms to do their jobs...

I'm on my honeymoon right now in Colorado Springs trying to do a quick update before the wife gets too upset. Can someone who has the 3.0 for 3g .ipsw file please mirror it somewhere? My download is taking forever! Thank you so much.

Wow, you mean you can't live without a software update for more than three hours before becoming impatient? I'd throw the iPhone away and go buy a Blackberry! How dare Apple keep you waiting!
