Another OS update from Apple hosing the hardware it was installed upon... Just effin' great!

No contacts, no sms history, no photos, no music etc. Factory clean so to speak. Could've at least told me you would erase it all when doing an update!

I've bought my last piece Apple cr*p! Hope they'll enjoy their 29 billion I'm not giving them another cent (or 'öre' in my case). Thanks, Apple, you're such a dependable company today!

New features & one wish

Well I have to say I had no problems grabbing 3.0 this morning when it was released, and I'm fairly pleased with it so far. Tested pretty much the bigger new features (copy/paste, search, Find my iPhone, etc) and they all work like a charm. I am dying to be able to test the push service. I was hoping that with the official release of push that the App store would alert me when I have updates to download, but so far that is not happening. I went into the app store after 3.0 was already installed and it only alerted me once I was already in the store.

The one feature I have not heard anybody put on their wish list is the ability to ignore updates that are offered in the app store. I was hoping that would have been given to us in this release. I think when an update is available there should be an option to ignore it. Sometimes I don't want to update an app for a while, and it bothers me that there is no way i can get the "badges" to go away; it just annoys me to have those little numbers sitting there alerting me. Is there anyone else out there that thinks we should have this ability, or is it just me?

I realized I may have missed the answer for this but how does one force quit an app so that it doesn't take up memory? Used to be in 2.2.1 that you could just hold down the Home button for a few seconds but this doesn't seem to be working?

South-Pacific NW connection

Only good things I know of to come out of Athens are REM and the B-52's!

One time I made a mistake and ended up in Helena, GA. Redneck capital of the south! Yeee-dawgy! I was stationed in Disgusta, GA for a year, loved the smell of the paper mill all day. I also loved getting up at 5am and being hit by a wall of heat and humidy as I walked out the door, soaking me through. I won't mention fire-ants or not being able to have a glass of wine in an Italian restaurant on a Sunday. Blew my mind. Isn't Georgia where the textbooks come with warnings about evolution, and a kid was kicked out of school because he wore a Pepsi shirt on "Coke" day? lol.

Pacific Northwest, I'm sorry I ever left ya!

I'm not even sure about REM and the B-52's! And by the way it's pronounced "Fahhrrr-Ants down he-ah. Yes I have to agree about the heat and humidity...especially right now, and we have caught up with the times on restaurant drinking on Sundays....but don't go to the grocery store!

The only thing good in Dis-gust-a is the Masters, and it's better on TV (no fahrr-ants). Also anything other than "Coke" is unacceptable and is grounds for dismissal.

I have visited the Pacific NW several times (my wife is from Seattle outskirts) and it is absolutely wonderful. They don't speak as slow there (must be the coffee) but you can't beat the scenery and clean air! If I had to move from he-ah, that would be top of my list for places to stay.

This is interesting. I just got this message when I downloaded the Shazam update. I wonder if Apple will allow applications with more mature content now.
That is part of the license you agreed to ;)

p.s. I was previously unable to locate the setting to enable tethering... because Apple disabled it in the carrier file so I didn't really need a crowbar to get tethering working again, and thus like Steve used to say: Done!!!

Before I freaked out, I decided to take the advice of some on this forum and restart my mac. It worked. Probably just a long cue for activation servers, though. Don't panic, just be patient and proud of Apple's dominate market share.

Also, noticed that the "type" of phone (home, mobile, work) appears under name of caller in recent and voicemail panes. Nice touch. Keep up the good work, Apple.

Nice catch. I've had the GM 3.0 for a couple of days, and I never noticed. Also in the "Recent" list, there's a small icon of a handset with an arrow pointing away indicating outbound calls. It always bothered me that you couldn't tell which were incoming or which were outgoing calls.

Still finding significant lag in the SMS / MMS app.

It didn't run a full backup before the software update?

Press and hold the sleep/wake button until the slide to power off screen appears. Then press/hold the home button until the application quits.

Just installed 3.0.

Put the phone in my pocket for 90 minutes on the way to work.

Just pulled it out and it's really hot. I mean, really hot.

My battery is showing nearly empty as well.

What the?

I installed 3.0 a few days ago and kind of the same thing happened to me... my battery went dead red line dead in just a few hours of just sitting on a coffee table.

Uh, did anyone just somehow get theirs updated for free through itunes?

All I did was plug in my first gen ipod, hit update, and that was it. Wasn't this supposed to be $9.99 for touch users?

Only on the 3G S

no video on iphone 3g

I guess you didn't read all the press recently....if you want video, you have to get the 3G S instead of the 3G or 1G iPhone. Oh and by the way, 3.0 doesn't give you voice dialing, magnetometer, etc.....

I still wish we had the option to...

To be able to customize new text message sound.

To be able to view To Do in Calendar mode (Or just separate To Do app)

To be able to change the background color. (right now it is black only)

:p

And you can't just sync your data why?

Yoppie!!! that worked great... sorry about the late reply but i've just got back from the "lift" giving... did all that and it worked perfect... your a life saver because i was basically out the door at that stage with nothing else in mind!... at least i've got my iphone back working now, and for the update.... it's the anti climax i was expecting, oh well....

hope everythings still working with you... thanks again! :D

No problem. I know the feeling. :D
Everything is ok on my end.

You can't even wait until after your honeymoon to download the update? I hope your marriage lasts longer than the update time! You know that updating the iPhone NEVER goes as fast as one hopes.

After the 2.0 "day of realease" update last year, I learned my lesson. I'm waiting a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm going to spend time with my wife...and we've been married for over 16 years. (Just think about how many tech updates she has outlasted! And I'd still rather hug up to her than the iPhone.)
:D

good call :) your wife would be proud of you

No problems in Connecticut. I downloaded and saved the update around 5 and while it was downloading I backed up my phone. Installed it about 5 mins later and was up in running within a few minutes.
I learned my lesson about trying to do the straight install. It seems to go a lot smoother when you just download it.

You will need the iPhone 3G S+ for that. Customizing text message sounds requires improved hardware, which sadly, the 3G S doesn't support.

Update seems pretty soft for us EDGE owners, not sure if it was worth the update or not.

Anybody know if 3.0 has "Missed Call Notification"?

Even my old phone from 1996 would beep every minute if I missed a call, it was on my wish list for 3.0. I mean the beep, not the text on screen.

Or would that be on the specs page?
