Apple knows how many iPod touches and iPhones have been sold worldwide up to this point, correct? The fact that they weren't prepared for this evening's server run is absurd, yet again. You think they would have learned from last year's MobileMe and 2.0 releases.

If I see "Unknown Error (-4)" one more time...

With those billions in cash reserves, I'd think something could be down about situations such as these.

Hmmm, yes... Let's invest $$$$$$ in servers and bandwidth for a rush that happens maybe once a year for a span of less than 24 hours... That makes a lot of sense, business-wise. If people didn't get their panties in such a twist over getting this update NOW NOW NOW, there'd be no problem. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to update just to avoid the hassle

Seriously though, think about it... Millions of people are trying to connect to dozens of servers simultaneously... You would need server farms like Google has to handle that kind of load. It makes sense for Google to have those kinds of server farms - it's at the core of their business model. Fortunately Apple is building a swank new farm in North Carolina.

I can't log on to the store I keep getting errors.

A friend of mine got his to work earlier but took an hour or so.

iTunes is busy

Anyone else getting this?

I swear to God if someone tells me to look through 30 pages of posts...

I won't tell you to look through more posts, but I'm sure by now there will be more than 30. I updated my 3G iPhone earlier this afternoon, and when I got to the very end of the process and I was waiting on iTunes to re-recognize the updated process my area had a 5 second power outage and killed my computer. I thought I had bricked the iPhone and after re-booting the computer and iTunes, I kept getting that same error message in iTunes. I also had the "brick" screen on the phone with the usb-iTunes icon the only thing that would show. I ended up calling apple tech and they told me my phone was fine and that the servers at apple were overloaded and many people were experiencing my problem. I was relieved when he told me my power outage hadn't hurt the phone and sure enough while I was still talking to tech support I reconnected and finished the update/activation. If you get the error message, the moral is keep trying until iTunes talks to your computer/iPhone. I guess this is why they are opening a server farm in SC soon......just not soon enough.

Is it me or does apple keep having issues with software upgrades? I guess next time an update comes out I'll wait a day or two and let the internet dust settle.......(if I can control myself)

:D

Please help.

The 3.0 update went fine on my iphone, but now itunes tells me I have an invalid SIM card !! It's all legal though, never jailbroken or anything. I'm just a normal simple customer yet I don't know how I can resolve this problem.

The phone works perfectly fine, I just can't synchronize it with itunes anymore...

So you're saying they should invest millions in a huge server farm for the once or twice-a-year software release events? Or, you could just be like me and wait a few days. It's been 18 months people, you aren't going to die because your phone doesn't have copy/paste for another day or two. I will try it this weekend when I have time, right now I have a life to live. I recommend most of you nuts chill and do the same.

Have you tried reseating the sim? Pull out the tray and put it back in?

Hey 'Ramblin Wreck keep after it. The problem is not on your end but apple's servers will catch up eventually. It took me a while but I did succeed!

BTW--I've been a jacket my whole life, my grandfather was a professor of mechanical engineering for 50 years at GT and actually started Southern Tech (now Southern Poly Tech) and there is a dorm over there that is named after him.

Go Jackets and to hell with GA!

GA Tech?

Georgia Tech? What do they do there? Figure out how to make the mule drag the plow more faster? Tie a large carrot to the stick? Are there classes in moonshining and evading the "revenuers"? :D

I have loaded 192 apps so far thats 12 pages on my Springboard. Trying to get to 13 pages..

Was able to connect bluetooth to my notebook but bluetooth pan (network sharing) does not work. It says the device does not support Pan.

Thanks!

THIS is why it would be advantageous of people to WAIT until the dust settles in a few days. I am in the Middle East, also using a SIM card and I was waiting to see someone post the above comment. I have an official unlocked iPhone 3G from Hong Kong. People are in such a hissy-fit to download the update, not knowing what it's going to do to their particular iPhone.

Yeah that's about close

Finally got through, downloading really fast.

That's funny but you missed it by about 70 miles. They do all that stuff at UGA in Athens, GA since they aren't as smart as GT students...

Apple never charged me for the iPod touch 3.0 update and I don't know why! Thanks :apple:, free stuff is always welcomed!

Me too I don't know why I just put update it download it and installed no problem
the only thing that doesn't work is the app store on my computer my iPhone and my touch anyone else having this problem:mad::mad:

Oh I can understand that... lets do it last minute.... I will gripe to at&t about it.. but at least when the salesman calls me in the next few days i dont have to buy his phones..... I have a tech crew of 8 waiting to get iphones.. the only reason they dont have them yet is they need mms to do their jobs...

Well seeing as how they only announced last week that 3.0 would be released today I can't see how that is waiting till the last minute to tell everyone. I mean yeah they waited till the last minute to tell us of the release, but it's not like they told us about the release and then held off telling everyone about MMS until yesterday. I'm not trying to bash you or anything, but It's really amazing to me how people hear what they want to hear about a release and then when they actually d/l and find something "missing" they get mad because they didn't pay attention the first time.

Change the Name of this Thread...

The name of this Thread must be changed to

"Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0 and WHAAAAAAAA, I can't get Through! Apple Sux! Apple's out to get me! WHAAAAAA"

Breath Deep and Relax people. You'll get your update.

And yes, I had to wait a few hours too.

Georgia

Only good things I know of to come out of Athens are REM and the B-52's!

One time I made a mistake and ended up in Helena, GA. Redneck capital of the south! Yeee-dawgy! I was stationed in Disgusta, GA for a year, loved the smell of the paper mill all day. I also loved getting up at 5am and being hit by a wall of heat and humidy as I walked out the door, soaking me through. I won't mention fire-ants or not being able to have a glass of wine in an Italian restaurant on a Sunday. Blew my mind. Isn't Georgia where the textbooks come with warnings about evolution, and a kid was kicked out of school because he wore a Pepsi shirt on "Coke" day? lol.

Pacific Northwest, I'm sorry I ever left ya!

iPhone better than a Honeymoon?

I'm on my honeymoon right now in Colorado Springs trying to do a quick update before the wife gets too upset.

You can't even wait until after your honeymoon to download the update? I hope your marriage lasts longer than the update time! You know that updating the iPhone NEVER goes as fast as one hopes.

After the 2.0 "day of release" update last year, I learned my lesson. I'm waiting a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm going to spend time with my wife...and we've been married for over 16 years. (Just think about how many tech updates she has outlasted! And I'd still rather hug up to her than the iPhone.)
:D

This is actually a function of how a cell phone works. When you have excellent signal, you need very little energy in order to talk to the tower, however, when your signal is marginal, the transmitter boosts signal power in order to talk to the tower.

This means if your signal is marginal you will use more power.

Mel

Thanks, I get that. What my post was saying is now the battery is getting drained superfast as opposed to just fast since loading 3.0. Another poster said to try rebooting, so I'll see how that goes.
