"Job" wasn't the best term to use but by downloading the beta you're essentially volunteering to do so. Kind of the purpose of a beta.

I disagree. I don't believe its that kind of beta. I'm paying good money to Apple and one of my perks is to get the betas. Apple gets my cash and they get to have 4.0 applications ready on release date. Nothing more.

Are we finally getting the orientation lock? :)I want THAT in 4.0!!:) Rotation inhibitor was one of the reasons to jailbreak. I will be very happy if the orientation lock will be a part of OS, not just iPod app, but also Safari and others..Does that show in Safari, too???

Apparently not publicly enough for me to have noticed beforehand! :)

It's no big deal. I was just wondering if the "can't power off" thing was a documented problem or something wrong with my phone.

I'm quite enjoying the new features (the Mail restructure, the SMS character count, folders). I wish I had multi-tasking as well, but hey... I'll probably just get the new model this summer.

Hrm. the iRestore downgrade worked to get my phone back to 3.1.3, new baseband notwithstanding. No probs with sms, mms, voicemail or phone with the mismatch. Did it twice though, because I thought I messed up the first time. OS version showing 3.1.3 (7E18) with modem firmware 5.13.03.

My 3GS' UDID is registered with apple but I can't download the beta 3 from apple's website because I got it registered from a guy on youtube (free). Where else can I get the beta 3?
thx

seek and ye shall find...

in other words, if you look around a bit on the net, you'll find it

Was anyone else here getting terrible battery life on a 3GS with beta 2? Even if I did almost nothing, the battery would drain to ~50% by the time I got home at night.

Isn't that normal operation for the 3GS? I almost never get home with my 3GS functioning, despite it getting a nightly charge.

No. Apple doesn't pay me to find bugs for them. Its my job to make sure my apps work with the new version and to start upgrading my apps to use the new APIs.

If you want to make sure your apps work with the new OS version, you should wait for official release of the new OS version. If you want to see if there are problem with either your apps or the new OS, then you might want to test with Apple's beta OS versions.

Whether Apple pays you or not isn't the issue... if a beta OS bug affects your app, not reporting Apple's bugs just delays (or potentially prevents, if no one else reports the bug either) getting your app working with the new OS in end-users hands.

Just because somebody registers your UDID doesn't mean you can download the firmware straight from Apple...

Beta 3 isn't uploaded anywhere yet. Wait a few hours and downloads will be all over the place.

I just downgraded from 4.0 b2 to 3.1.3. I'll wait till the sdk is GM'd.

Meanwhile...I'm downloading Starcraft 2 beta:D

Is that the multitasking thing, or will anybody be able to do that (on any device)? And how'd you bring that up anyway?

its the multitasking bar. it locks for all apps also, not just the ipod app. a little symbol shows up in the corner next to the battery to let you know its locked too.

also, even though it says itunes doesnt support folders, all of my folders are still there after syncing this time.

How come the iPod controls are there? So you're saying that the multitasking bar is going to be filled with all that nonsense, or was that Photoshopped?

you swipe the multitask bar to the right to get to it. its a good thing, because if you recall, the double click used to bring up the ipod controls. its good they brought it back. you can be in safari and change a song on the fly again now.

I'd rather have a pop-up box :(.

Mine were in tact from beta1 -> beta2. Still syncing so I'm not sure what will happen this time.
