My problem is this is something free that was added and some people here have way too much nerve to complain about something free. Lucky for Apple MR isn't the main source of their customers.

Just because you're not paying money for something doesn't really mean it is "free".People unfortunately tend to severely overvalue "free" stuff - a well-known phenomenon in behavioral economics.

Okay, I'll give you that, especially about the bloat which is my suspicion for why Apple axed the colors, to prevent any slowing down of iTunes.

And why do you feel color slows down an application ? You're being sarcastic here right ?

My problem is how they are shoving their "free stuff" in my face. I don't want to try it out, nor give it a chance. I don't do the social networking thing, not even facebook.

A sidebar will not stop ping from being a giant mass of suck.

Why can't Apple do something useful with the app, or at least leave well enough alone instead of introducing pointless bandwaggon jumping bloat.

Do you use Windows? Anytime I hear that software is "bloated" it comes from a Windows user. iTunes is very fast on my computer and I have over 25 GB of media. It's not very complicated to use. I wish there were add-ons or plugins available to handle more advanced tasks. To me Ping should be an add-on because now we have even more updates to iTunes due to the evolution of Ping.

Apple have totally lost the plot with iTunes. I'm glad I'm not alone in failing to understand the value of Ping, whereas Apple have now taken away the Genius Recommendations side bar which introduced me to lots of new music and made Apple money! I'll continue to store music on iTunes, but use Ecoute or other less bloated front end application to listen to my music.

I was hoping they would move the Album info below the album so that it fits on the screen better

I'll be sticking with iTunes 9 until Apple decides to allow me to hide Ping completely. I hate Ping and the entire idea of Apple integrating something into their software that has no purpose other than increasing the sales of iTunes content.

You can hide it with the terminal commands that have been posted here.

Even more Ping integration that I don't want. If Ping isn't enabled, then what's the point of integrating it that much into iTunes.

Seriously, I can't believe that this piece of software was actually made by Apple. It doesn't fit, it's clunky and bloated. Just not Mac-like. 8/

Nope, still nothing to hide the actual Ping icon under the STORE listing.

I agree that Ping is worthless to me and have not done anything to activate it. It looks like the upgrade can wait (running 10.0). I think your vitriol is over done concerning the icon and the four letters under the store listing. I had to check to see if it was still there. Well it is. Not a big deal.

What over done vitriol ? I'm simply stating I don't like having stuff shoved in my face, free or not.

Really? Seems as though open source developers get a lot of praise here.

I wasn't being sarcastic about the colors, it was just an observation. Do you have any idea as to why Apple removed the colors and left us with a bland iTunes?
You seem to have mastered the letter "I" to a point where you seem to think if "I" don't want it, nobody else does either.

Leave them feedback. I did. Hopefully, the colored icons will make a return as at least an option in 10.1.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

I have just done so:

"Hello iTunes team

I have downloaded and installed iTunes 10.0.1 today. The user experience of iTunes has deteriorated since the introduction of iTunes 10 ('Ping', grey icons, ...), however it has gotten even worse with iTunes 10.0.1: I have instantly hidden the 'Ping' sidebar, but 'Ping' buttons are all over the place in my library. What a nightmare!

As a loyal Apple customer, I do want to keep using the latest version of your software. But as there is no setting to disable 'Ping' from iTunes completely, I have no other choice but to disable the iTunes Store completely. Therefore, I have deactivated iTunes Store in the iTunes' Parental Controls settings today. I will reactivate iTunes Store when Apple provides a solution for disabling 'Ping' content from my iTunes, but will keep using this workaround in ordner to prevent my iTunes content from 'Ping' bloat.

Regards,
..."

Command+R is not working for me on iTunes 10.0.1.

Hmm, nevermind; they changed it to Shift+Command+R.

Ping will be as succesful as iReview. Anyone remember that great service from Apple?

Remember in iTunes 4.0 when they let you stream music to and from anyone's library anywhere (not just on the local network)? I'll take getting that back over keeping Ping any day.

ping ick

of all the mac/ios users i know who are obsessed with music, we are all disgusted by ping. it is not about sharing music, it's about apple pushing product and littering itunes, which was once a decent app, with crap pointing towards the checkout line.
to those above who wrote terminal commands directing us how to 'clean' itunes, thanks. for the first time with apple products, i may refrain from 'updating' itunes for as long as possible.
and we all know no matter what the feedback, apple will push ahead with this nonsense.

I have to admit that I still use iTunes 4.9 on my other PC.. Only as a music player. Yes, it is very old but guess what? It is fast and reliable. I love it.

That's why I'd like nothing more than an option called "Remove all traces of Ping" which I can check.

I'm not asking for them to not provide their social mumbo jumbo, but to shove it in the face of users who don't want it and to not provide an option to remove it is dead wrong no matter how you look at it. There is nothing egoistical about wanting an option to remove a service I have no intention of using, no matter how hard you try to make it sound that way.

As for the colors, you really believe a gray bitmap file is somehow faster than a colored one ? Seriously, 0xaaaaaa is faster than 0xaaee55 ?

I don't want to sign up for Ping. But now there's no Genius sidebar anymore. I want that back!

:(

Very weird decision removing the Genius Sidebar. That was the most useful feature to me!

Ping doesn't even list concert listings for me. Is that only in the US or certain countries? I'm in Canada.

Can anyone recommend a good program or website that shows you music you may like based on what you have?
