Help

iTunes 12.0 downloaded automatically against my wishes, How can I go back to iTunes 11. I tried using the time machine backup to yesterday but it says I can't undo iTunes.

Is it possible to go back to previous iTunes, I don't like 12.0

Is it just me or is there something seriously wrong here considering that one of these operating systems is just five years old, made by Apple and still considered to be the best OS X by many, while the other is 13 years old, made by Microsoft, and has been declared dead even by them?

Half the planet uses XP. Not so much with the OS X equivalent.

I could have sworn that I had checked off not to download iTunes updates automatically but I saw a security update that I updated yesterday on my Mac under software update but I only agreed to the security update not to iTunes 12 but it downloaded iTunes 12 anyway.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm still on Mavericks but it downloaded iTunes 12 automatically.

One thing I hate is that in the list of updated apps it no longer shows the release notes for the new versions. I have to switch back and forth between the list and the store to find out what has changed.

I also miss the old sidebar. I notice that I need more clicks to navigate back and forth between the various sections of my library and the store. With the sidebar I could get anywhere with one click.

Put it in 'Playlists' view and the app will behave exactly like it used to. You can have any view you like within 'Playlists' mode, for music, shows, everything

I'm scared to restart my MacBook now, there's a message in my App Store that says "restart required".

I don't want to upgrade!!!!

Yes I hate that as well. I hope there is a small update to restore that. As for your second issue, the quote below should help.

Happened here as well. Mavericks 10.9.5. Spent the next half hour or so finding all the iTunes files that changed (including in the System directory), deleting them and reinstalling the previous versions from the iTunes 11.4 installer. I have Automatic Updates disabled as well, they aren't even supposed to be downloaded in the background without me manually starting the process first. Strange.

Thanks, I knew I wasn't going crazy because I have never allowed software to install auto, yet it did with the latest iTunes.

I actually have the iTunes installer for 11.4.dmg in my downloads folder but I don't know how to re-install 11.4 are there any instructions on how to do it without using 3rd party software. I also don't want to lose my 45 GB of music in my library. I could have sworn I did this before on previous version is iTunes but it's been awhile and I can't remember how I did it.

Agreed on the views, but I liked to have all sections immediately available in the sidebar at all times. This is no longer the case, since the sidebar is not visible when you're in the store. Instead the different sections (music, movies etc.) each have a store tab now. If, for example, I view the store in the music section, switch over to movies, and then want to see my own music library, I have to first click on music (which is still set to store), then playlist, rather than clicking directly on my music library in the sidebar as it used to be.

I know, one click doesn't sound like much in the big scheme ;), but the navigation just feels cumbersome when going back and forth. This is definitely not an improvement. I don't understand why they have to take away the sidebar as a shortcut, at least as an option.

Since upgrading to iTunes 12.0.1.54 on my Windows 7 machine, it crashes (stops working according to Windows) periodically with a DEP protection violation. Either that or I'll see a crash in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\JavaScriptCore.dll

It seems to primarily do this when downloading apps or accessing the iTunes Store as far as I can tell, but it's hard to tell exactly what's triggering this.

Anyone else have problems with this?

Fair enough point, I very rarely use the store so it's not presented a problem for me, I'm just constantly browsing my playlists and using up next, and for that it's great.

I literally can't remember the last time Apple added a "feature" to iTunes that made me say "oh that's great!", at least not sarcastically. Every time I open iTunes lately (which thanks to iCloud and iTunes Match is less and less often), I get a vague Android-like feeling of "what I am supposed to do here?" and "how do I just make it do what I want?"

iTunes has gone from drop-dead easy to use and understand, to a bloated design-by committee cluster fork of the highest order.

Up next is an absolutely superb feature. When I have parties at my house, trying to explain to people that they need to drop the song they want on a playlist then go into that playlist, and drag it up to the top to hear their song next was utterly infuriating. Now it's just one click - 'play next' and bosh. Best thing they've ever done to the application.

I admit that itunes 11 had loads of different views and ways of making playlists and they were all crap and unnecessary. This version doesn't have any of that nonsense. I think it's the best version yet.

I ended up reverting back to iTunes 11.4 as 12.0.1 is too buggy.

iTunes 12.0.1 just kept randomly crashing (DEP violation or crash in JavaScriptCore.dll) whenever I tried to access the iTunes Store or download apps, music, etc.

Yosemite wrecked my MPB

Hey guys just to give you a heads up on Yosemite.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) which worked perfectly fine before installing this beautiful piece of software, after installing it all hell broke loose.

My MBP can't stay connected to a Wi-Fi longer than 2 minutes because for some weird reason it disconnects from the network and starts looking for networks all over again, ignoring the one I was connected to.

Also, the OS is using on average 6 GB!!! of physical memory for some unknown reason.

It's been 6 days and even Apple Support doesn't know what to do with it.

Anyone else having this delightful experience with Yosemite?

For all those complaining, I found the sidebar (someone else may have too, above--haven't read the entirety of the thread). When in 'My Music', top right corner--has a menu, select "artists", and iTunes goes back to being useful.

Yep and guess what? After doing so it automatically updated itself back to this sickly looking red icon. I hate it but guess I am stuck with it.

You do realize that changing the icon is not particularly difficult, right?

I decided to test a few things while at home and upgraded back to 12.0.1. At the same time I also installed a QuickTime update. I have no idea why, but it wasn't crashing when I tested at home. It had been crashing at my workplace which uses a firewall. Since iTunes 11.4 worked, iTunes isn't being blocked, but even if it was, iTunes 12 shouldn't have crashed. It'll be interesting to see if it still works tomorrow at work or if it crashes again.

I've just had a look at that - when in full screen view without the sidebar, if you drag a song the sidebar appears from the left until you let go of the mouse, didn't know that.

Crashed at work again. If the network you are on can cause iTunes to crash that means it's possible for someone to use iTunes to run code on your machine by fiddling with iTunes network traffic. That's a security flaw.

Is it just me or do you really no longer can sync bookmarks with iDevices since iTunes 12?

itune 12 issues

the new iTunes failed to import my library had to import it my self then take all the music of the phone and put it back on thanks apple that was fun it would be nice if you thought about your customers needs first.
if you need help.

1. hope you back up your library like me take the old library file and replace the new one

2. import all your apps from iTunes folder using iTunes

3.delete all you music on your device then select in iTunes your music folder

4. do the same for ring tones.

5. consolidate your library it should work now.

I'm not very tech savy hope this helps it worked for me hopefully apple will fix the bug in iTunes fast.

I actually prefer iTunes 12 over 11. I think the v11 interface looks a bit better, but iTunes 12 feels faster and more responsive for large music libraries, and some of the interface changes regarding text/info are a bit more practical IMO.
