I don't know if this is due to iOS 10 or the new iTunes update, but I've been able to sync my iPhone and iPad to a new computer. Long story short, I haven't had the computer they were synced to for over two years. But after updating to the new iTunes and new iOS, I can now sync my devices to a new computer where I could not before without iTunes whiping the devices clean.

My goodness! Did someone bind and gag Jony Ive in a coat closet before they made this update? There's... color in the UI! At least I see color for song ratings (stars) and on the generic icon displayed for podcasts which don't provide their own icon.

How do I make the album art go away or smaller? Right now it is HUGE!
Yeah Apple thinks were all blind, I don't think I like where there heading with these updates

I am beyond angry at Apple for removing the star system in iOS 10. For years and years I've been using this system to categorize my music.

Is there any other music library system on iOS that works with stars or the like?
Yes its called Cesium it even has a Dark Mode:

Great, Apple threw everybody using 10.9 & 10.10 under the bus.
I'm finally able to get 10.9 to run reliable on my Mac Pro 1,1 and now they moved the bar again requiring El Capitan now to run iTunes. Obviously I'm not the only hardware dropped. Probable lots of MacBooks pros and minis and pros.

This obviously means that you must have Windows 10 now right?
[doublepost=1473820999][/doublepost]Belay that command, looks like they pulled 10.9 and windows 7 user out from under the bus.

Movies: Apparently playback no longer works or something is wonky about it because none of the mp4's I originally had in there work after the update. It just stays like this. Also, there is no album art as the icon. Kind of regretting this update now.

I really hate the microphone icons in Artists view, hopefully it's just a bug o_O

Not a fan of the new UI. Too much custom UI controls (flat blue buttons, ugh), redundancy (why do we need separate buttons simply opening right click menu) and on hover clutter (reminds me of dreadful Groove Music, where I can't click anywhere without accidentally activating something).

Sure hope they address the microphone icons. It's ugy, but I don't know how much of a "bug" they consider it since it's been in the iOS 10 betas and still exists there in the final version....

Assuming you have a Mac, you should be able to go directly to the music folder, which has folders for each artist, and inside folders for each album. Probably the same in Windows.
Yes I have theses from my CDs that I loaded to iTunes but the purchased songs don't see to be found!

This new display for your own music library is absolutely horrible! The album artwork is now huge for no reason. Also, in the artist panel down the left side of the screen, any artist simply imported from CDs or downloaded from another music store that isn't iTunes now has no artwork. There's just a long list of default microphone symbols. I actually liked the custom colour backgrounds for playlists in 12.4 too. This is the first time I've updated iTunes and face-palmed as soon as it opened.

'Rent' isn't a very accurate term to describe music streaming services, as rental implies you give the music back at some point. I've been streaming music for years now - I've never had to return my music.

If you stop subscribing you lose access to the music. That's why it is renting.

Sent the issue to Apple Support via twitter - they asked if its all music and said they will look at it. They were swamped w/yesterdays release

what would be the quickest way to save loads of music for offline? make a playlist on iTunes and add what you want and then make that available offline?

Just updated. I'm not going to comment on the blue star ratings in the library as I'm sure I'll get used to them but I am annoyed that they didn't reinstate the ability to start a Genius Playlist from the currently playing song. I can still start a station though! I'm afraid the writing is on the wall and those of us with large local libraries are being herded towards a utopian future of All Apple Music All The Time. Blech.

What's rather amusing (or not) about the Artist view pictures is that it's inconsistent, but seems to only apply IF and only if all the song/albums for that artist have been purchased via iTunes. I have an artist that every song but one was purchased in iTunes and the artist picture is still blank. What's even more odd is that I have lots of artists that the only songs I have are directly added from Apple Music (subscription) and there is no picture for them either.

I'd just like to add my vote to the "Please bring back star ratings in iOS" crowd.

I submitted this as a "bug" in iOS beta, but it's still not fixed...

Ok, I just discovered that Synergy floaters work again with this update. It stopped working several releases back as Apple changed something with the library.xml file and it could no longer read song information to present on screen. Not intentional as I'm sure it wasn't when it broke either but it makes me feel better about my life. ;)

And no, I'm not affiliated in any way with this applet. I've just used it for the better part of 10 years.

Things I miss on Now Playing Apple Music iOS:
  • The ability to toggle SHUFFLE on/off
  • Star ratings
Apple Music UI improvements:
  • why keep font sizes the same on Podcasts' Now Playing while jacking up the font so large on Apple Music that any combination of artist/album name with more than 30 characters scrolls horizontally like a news ticker?

Yikes! Didn't realize star ratings were gone from iOS Music app. I use star ratings heavily on both iOS and Mac.

A little research suggests I'll be inconvenienced but still able to do what I do. iOS 10 testers report that:

- Smart Playlists still work on iOS 10 and respond to star ratings as always.

- You can tell Siri "Rate this song 4 stars" to avoid having to rate from your Mac/PC.

Really hope the on-screen star ratings come back though!

My decade-old system:

5 stars: the VERY best of the best
4 stars: my favorite songs
3 stars: all the rest of the songs I like
2 stars: neutral—but OK to have in shuffle for variety so I don't get as tired of my favorites
1 star: dislike!
0 stars: unrated, need to decide

Then I can devote as much or as little space to my music on each device as I want, by syncing Smart Playlists like "2+ Stars" and "4+ Stars."

I use about the same system, and I've invested quite a bit of time over the years for this classification which helps with song rotations and management. Would be dissapointed to be left with a binary classification of "love" / "dislike".

But, on the other hand, I know no one close to me using this, so I guess it makes sense from their point of view to put it aside, focusing on the mainstream users. That is what Apple is known for after all, simpler and focused.

We'll find other twisted ways to do what we do. But this worked well for many years... Will miss it if they get rid of it...

I apologise in advance for posting multiple similar threads because I wasn't sure which forums I should use for my question.Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

After I updated my iTunes to 12.5.1.21, I cannot see my genre thumbnails in iTunes. Previously, there were nice little icons next to each genre to help navigate as well as general info about how many albums and songs belong to each genre. Now though, I'm left with genres' name only. Please see the image below:

Screen Shot 2016-09-14 at 12.23.26 PM.png

I've tried going to different viewing options, but none of them seem to help.

Does anyone else have the same issue as me? Please help.

Thank you.
