Yes, downloading updates is still working, but there are no "Get" or "Buy" button on the apps anymore - so only update works - at least so it was for me.
Ah ok hadn't tried to get anything new. However I just did to see what would happen and it worked. So 12.6 is still updating and allowing new downloads, at least free ones. Again, didn't try to actually purchase anything but found a free weather app to test and it had the GET option and downloaded fine. And showed up in iPhone automatically too.

And how about the Windows community? What are they to use?

Who knows. But you suggested they add an app to the Mac App store, and I was simply pointing out they don't need to because it already exists.

I do a fair amount of research on my computer before I go download some apps.

Not having access to the iTunes app store from my computer will reduce the amount of money I spend on apps.
Here you can access all the apps in a specific country: https://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios/id36?mt=8 - change the country in the URL - e.g. instead of /us/ for USA, you can change it to e.g. /au/ for Australia.

Which macOS are you running ?? - I was running macOS 10.13 GM, and there the buttons was gone.

Probably by the next iteration of iPhone the lightning port will be deleted, leaving all connections to Wifi/cellular, including any syncing, which will be through the cloud.

I have no doubts that this will happen in 2 years.

As far as auto updates on the Mac there are options to turn off updates in System Settings, and there is a setting inside iTunes that looks for new software under the Advanced tab you need to uncheck.

It's still working using 10.12.6

I have apps which are no longer in the app store which I intended to reload on my phone before updating my software. What are my options?
Open iTunes. Wait for your phone to be found and click on the icon as if you're going to sync or backup. Drag (from Finder) your old .ipa files over the phone and they'll install. Easy!

So, if you want to download an app to both your iPhone and iPad, you've now got to download it twice? Hopefully, as noted above, iTunes still keeps copies locally.

What of switching stores? The iOS 11 App Store doesn't offer any means to switch accounts, seemingly locking it to the account specified in the system preferences. Presumably that's now (for now?) got to be accomplished in the iTunes Store.

When I download an app to my iPhone it automatically appears in my iPad Pro. I don't do anything. In the IOS world - it seems to all sync in the background.

I forgot to add one thing to my post:
(...snip for space..)
They only care about extending their control over us.

Wonderful articulation. Regarding the "planned obsolescence", Apple likes to boast about being "green" but generating a product made of rare earth minerals by the hundreds of thousands, or millions, that is meant to be discarded and replaced every year is not just a tremendous hassle to the user but has a catastrophic impact on the environment.

I managed all my ringtones from with iTunes. The worst part is, I have auto-updates turned OFF on my Mac and it installed the latest version anyway. No more custom ringtones.

Dumbasses.

That just proves their malicious intent towards the user here as well as demonstrates their increasing hostile aggression towards a private user's computing environment.

I noticed somewhat recently that system updates on the iPad no long have a "No" option but "Install now" or "Remind me Later". It automatically downloads massive updates without asking even though I have told it not to and after I delete the installers it just downloads it again. There is no way to stop this. Wasn't Microsoft sued for this kind of behavior sometime back? Or maybe I have just remembering people wanting to sue Microsoft over this sort of behavior. In any case here we are being bullied and having our digital lives damaged, interfered with, molested, with little recourse but trying to use backups and ripping the networking cable out of the wall.

It's a configurable setting. It was over a year ago that I set it so I don't remember where.

Settings>Ituneappstore You can stop automatic downloads for apps

So, how do you backup your iOs devices now ???
Also, how do you reorganize your apps if you have dozen of paged filled with them ?
Question # 2

A little time consuming, but if put your finger on an app and hold it down, they all start shaking. Once that happens you press down on the app, hold it, and move it to the left or right end and the app will move to the next page.

Has anyone mentioned yet that the 'Mobile Applications' folder hasn't been removed? Mines still here taking up 28.6Gb. Thats a lot of space to save.
I would argue it is better to not be deleted by default, saving me weeks upon weeks trying to reload all apps from three stores.

There are spaces that does not worth to save, similar to not always bean counting the money to the last cent.

How to save a list of all the apps in your iTunes 12.6 library folder:

If you still have iTunes 12.6, open your Apps Library, choose the Library view at the top, then choose Show View Options under View and add all items you want (Seller, Version, Size etc.), sort by Name (or desired criterion), select Print, choose Song List and then Custom, hit Print and Save as PDF. This will give you a PDF listing all your apps, including Version, size, type and other information.

Great decision Apple. Who downloads iOS apps on their Mac anyway?

Anything that removes bloat from iTunes is good for me.
I have quite a few apps that are no longer in the app store that can no longer be downloaded from the store... but I have them locally downloaded on my iMac and can sync them to my iOS devices. Apps that were "pulled" from the app store (supposed TOS violations) cannot be downloaded (only synced if they exist locally on my Mac)

There are also a few apps where I deliberately don't have the latest version installed. When I need to re-install them, I can simply sync them from my iMac to my iOS device. Once the app sync feature is removed from iTunes for OSX, I will only be able to download the latest version supported on my device... not a specific version.

Clearly that isn't a big deal to you, (you weren't even aware of ANY reasons to download iOS apps on their Mac), but for the few of us, this is an issue.

OTOH, an iOS app nowadays tend to be not a single zip file (i.e. IPA archive), but one of several permutations as according to each supported device (iPad/iPhone, 2x/3x graphics, 32/64 bits for iOS 10 and below, etc) and hence an IPA archive for iPhone 7 Plus may not be compatible for iPhone 5, despite both running on iOS 10. Add on-demand resources to the mix and hopefully you know the reason why requiring the device to download the app.
I just put one word here: data.
I care nothing about those BS thinning or any trick they are playing. I just want to save my god damn data and god forbidden my TIME. Now Apple rips everyone off and decide to go too far against customers.
Cloud is BS. Subscription is BS. Everything wireless is BS.

Sorry, I am so triggered by apple’s even dumber move each year. I do not have any intention to insult you.

Hello everyone... MacRumorists! My first post here...

Looooong time Mac user... i feel very uncomfortable with this iTunes 12.7 situation..

Decluttering iTunes by removing the simply access to the iOs app store (and iOs devices and apps management), WITHOUT providing a dedicated software (i know about Configurator 2, but.. c'mon), was a very stupid and company-centric decision, no attention to user here.

Even the official dedicated apple forum is on flame on this.

please everyone let at least leave a feedback about this on the iTunes feedback channel:
https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

let make them draw back on this, or at least provide an alternative software.

thanks to you all.

Apparently, the iTunes dev team forgot that a few people still use their computer for internet browsing. Like every single Mac, Win, and ‘ux user. o_O

I’ve been so pissed about the removal of the App Store and not being able to use the Mac as a single point to download updates to, I didn’t even think about web links. Yikes. Lots of happy app developers out there... wow.

I very seldom use my iPad to browse the Internet or to search for apps. I use my iMac instead. If I find an app that interests me, I then download it into iTunes, and then either keep it there for possible future use or sync it to my iPad soon thereafter but not necessarily immediately. I cannot do that anymore. Now instead of a simple process it is an elaborate process. It is now a less convenient and poorer experience than it was before. Wasn't making the user experience more convenient and richer a priority for Apple?
