Where are my backup located on my mac? I tried to search ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ but MobileSync is no longer there. Also trying to find them on my time machine, but don't know where they are.

I agree. I am all for Apple taking the bloat out of iTunes. It has been way too long coming. Perhaps they will actually put in some new features. However, I think there does need to be a separate app to manage iDevices, their apps, backups, etc. Perhaps they will add this in the Mac App Store?

I agree. iTunes, which was and remains misnamed for what it does, was intended to manage audio files with iPods. But Apple then used iOS on phones and tablets, and added video, ebooks, apps, and ringtones to iTunes, which changed from a tool for managing audio files to a tool both for managing iOS devices and also for managing audio files. An app for managing audio, video, ebook and podcasts--all of which can run on both iOS and MacOS--is tidier, clearer and cleaner than one that tries to do several poorly related things. The new iTunes is closer to that kind of app than old iTunes was. There is already an AppStore app on MacOS, so adding iOS apps to it seems logical. But then there must be another, new app for MacOS that manages iOS devices and would include functions such as backups, iOS updates, and app organization. Apple Configurator can do some or all of that but it needs polishing to bring it up to the level of mass consumer software--and Apple must do a better job of informing users of the tool(s).

What if you made your own custom ringtones?
I just made a few and was able to change the extension to m4r, as usual in the tones folder in iTunes. Since I don't have the tones option to drag the files to in iTunes now I tried dragging it onto my phone icon in iTunes and it synced the new tones. You just can't change the artist or other file details anymore. It doesn't make sense to remove this option.

Only if you are on windows... still reverting is kind of pointless IMO, they just removed it and we have to deal with that.

Flippin' sheep, no we don't! What's wrong with everyone??? One minute everyone is ultra PC and now we either have to take it up the yahzoo like good little wenches or we get in line with the bully's and support their ultra overt fascist BS. The point is I can get behind removing the App Store from iTunes but they don't have to neuter or spay us like stray tech pets! Give us back the ability to back up our iOS apps on the Mac and quit trying to force feed us the "Cloud." If we don't want to do it that way, we shouldn't have to. Especially since they already were letting us do it previously anyway. This, "take it and you'll like it," crap has to stop. Activism, is not dead. If enough people make an effort to demand change, then change will happen. So don't whimper or whine and roll over. Take action and make an effort to do something about it!

Here is an example of today's updates without the Mac iTunes reality:

Update volume about 5 GB on my iPhone 7Plus. One navigation program with 1.9 GB was successfully downloaded only after the third attempt because updating was interrupted twice just before finishing. That never happened on a Mac. Total download volume about 9GB for one device. Time for updating despite a fast internet connection because of internet overload: over two hours. And that's just for one device. I have to repeat this procedure for four more devices, gives probably 45 GB download volume instead 5GB on a Mac iTunes download and additional 8 hours wasted time instead of some minutes with Mac iTunes.

So I have to minimize my efforts here, reducing my used devices, no more buying and testing of additional apps, …

There is no real substitution for a program on a Mac for downloading iOS apps and updates and organizing the devices.

Yes, but does it?? I get the impression you will have to download them all on the device again.
That screws us that do not live in 1st world countries and have slow internet. Have to download twice (iphone/ipad) and auto download would use needed bandwidth just to delete it. I see my ipad going bye bye if I have to download everything twice. It already takes days if I have to download for one device if I do a re install, forget two. Updating on mac or windows lappy I have coming is THE best way to go.

Thanks for alienating us apple, not everyone has the first world problem of too much bandwidth. Prices, things like this. Apple is trying to get rid of us.....its working.

This version of iTunes already accepts HEVC-encoded video in 4K resolution.
Does it mean we're ready to go with new appleTV 4K?

While I agree with the sentiments you expressed, the reality is that Apple is now so big that they don't have to listen to customers' complaints. It's been a while in the making.

For the last year or so I've been experimenting with alternatives in preparation for a post-Apple technology existence. There are some great alternatives out there, and some decent ones that will work... but for other things it'll be a bit of a compromise.

Take action and make an effort to do something about it!
The best action you can take is to take your dollars elsewhere. Buy a device that is a better fit for your priorities. If no other device exists, then complaining to Apple will do no good because... where else are you going to go? And if you will stay with Apple and continue to buy their products then what incentive do they have to cater to your requests?

Thirty-one (31) pages about Apple removing apps from iTunes and still no one apparently knows why iTunes 12.7 retains the apps folder. Perhaps all of this screaming is premature?

Why would Apple leave the apps folder if iTunes is totally done with apps? Perhaps apps are still going to be backed up locally?

Thanks for the suggestion about Configurator, I need to keep some apps from updating because often they become full of ads, even apps I paid for or they don't work as I liked before. In the iOs App store the Update All button is in a strategic -silly- position that sometimes gets hit involuntarily . Beside the fact that I'm not going to update iTunes till I can. Does iTunes 12.6 work with HighSierra?

Here you can access all the apps in a specific country: https://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios/id36?mt=8 - change the country in the URL - e.g. instead of /us/ for USA, you can change it to e.g. /au/ for Australia.

Which macOS are you running ?? - I was running macOS 10.13 GM, and there the buttons was gone.

Very useful thanks for that

Can you help me, when I click on this link it takes me to the iOS App Store, but if I copy the link (so I can find it easily) and save in notes, when I click the link the iOS App Store doesn't open - I just get iTunes preview.

Well why in the hell don't they say that instead of getting their customers all bent out of shape.

Or perhaps it was an oversight and will be removed in a subsequent update. It is more reasonable to respond to what Apple actually stated than to assume something because someone spotted something.

Great decision Apple. Who downloads iOS apps on their Mac anyway?

Anything that removes bloat from iTunes is good for me.
Clearly you've never had to manage iOS devices for education. This is another big hit for the education market that they didn't seem to think about.

Can we move our current 160GB of apps that reside in the Mobile Applications folder into Configurator 2, or do they have to be re-downloaded with Configurator 2?

You can't move them into Configurator 2. You can install them from the local files if they remain on your mac, though.

You don't manage education devices from iTunes.

has anyone had any problems manually adding music with 12.7? since i upgraded, every time i drag music onto my iPod or iPhone the sync starts, copies one or two songs, cancels, and then loops. even the songs that are "successfully" copied display the ! icon when selected. it only happens to me when "Convert higher bit rate songs to 256 AAC" is selected. when it's not selected they copy fine, and they copy fine if i manually convert with File > Convert > Convert to AAC.but this copy-on-the-fly option seems to be broken.

It's ok man if you really want it then demand it back. and nope in case you are wondering i'm not a flipping sheep here, i have had serious issues with Apple before and have demanded a solution, im very persistent when it is needed. They fixed the ipad air 2 pop issue for me and many others because we were very persistent on the Apple forums, now i have an issue with iTunes, which they broke for an entire year, then they fixed it, and since 12.6 is broken again, just growing tired of this company each day, Apple Music service on iTunes is just a mess for me all the fonts are extremely big and some artwork is missing.

This recent app section removal "feature" i don't think it affects me so much, but yeah its annoying i agree with that and its gonna be a pain when performing a clean ios installation in the future for sure.

However i think they removed it for an important reason (the first thing that comes to my mind is reverse engineering, they are even further protecting their apps) and that's a decision that is gonna be very difficult to revert but you can always try...Courage!!

I do. I manage what apps I want on the phone. Now my phone will be bloated with apps I don't need on there permanently. And no, I don't want automation for offloading apps.

I FOUND THE APP STORE IN ITUNES 12.7.0.166

If you visit a web page like:
https://itunes.apple.com/developer/electronic-arts/id284800461?mt=8

1. Click the blue button "View in iTunes" and it launches the developer page in iTunes:
View attachment 717322

2. Then click on App Store in the top left corner:

View attachment 717323

This is so cool. Because it is much easier to browse for new apps on the Mac's big screen.

Enjoy folks.
I just noticed it no longer works.

I just spoke with an Apple tech support person. He verified my worst fears about this change. For now, I'm holding off on the update until they either fix this problem or I can figure out a new workflow that is acceptable. Unfortunately, that means I will also need to delay my purchase of the new watch and iPhone until I know whether they are compatible with the software I must use.

Here is an important thing I learned from him: Apple does not officially follow this forum. To be heard, it is necessary to provide feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback
USING APPLE'S FEEDBACK PAGE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS ADDRESSED.
