I don't want to call anyone out, but, seriously, have you people no standards? Perfect?
Let's just go through some obvious iTunes flaws:
<snip>
iTunes is an acceptable program, and I am unaware of any program on any platform that does a better job; but that is FAR from claiming it's perfect.

Perhaps you weren't paying attention to this part of the post?
...simply perfect for me...

Some people just need a simple media program that does its job, and not everybody pays attention to the underlying runnings of the program.

Perfection lies in different places for different users. Not your call to make here. What might be a disaster to you might be perfect for someone else, but what could be a perfect program in your eyes could be a complicated mess for others.

I hope it changes the way you select books for the ipod touch. I have a ton of audiobooks in itunes and it's a pain to scroll through the list under audiobooks to select the ones I want. Why can I not auto sync music but turn off sync for books and drag what I want from the library? Instead of using the little window under the books tab and having all the books in alphabetical order only? And yes, I send the feedback every time a new update comes out.

isn't an update supposed to *improve* stability?

I haven't had an iTunes crash in I don't know how long, and within minutes of installing this update, I've had two.

Once while trying to fetch an app update, and again while trying to buy some music. Yikes.

Well thanks to both of you, each one of those apps are cool but unfortunately GimmeSomeTune doesn't offer Mute and while Coversutra does offer mute in iTunes, it requires iTunes to be the active window and then I need to perform a 2 key command to perform mute. I usually keep my negative opinions about Apple to myself but this one is very annoying of them to remove the mute option from the Dock icon. Sometimes I just don't get their decisions.

Maybe I misunderstand what you're trying to do, and, for the record, you do have a valid criticism about the iTunes update, but, Coversutra offers an option for specifying global shortcuts, among them for toggling mute in iTunes. iTunes, in my experience, doesn't have to be the active window.

I use Genius playlists daily, but for me they are *not* top notch. They seem to play the same songs repeatedly (I have 4000+ songs), and my biggest gripe is that they can't seem to keep the Christmas and Hannukah (Adam Sandler) songs out of the Soundtracks and Singer/Songwriter mixes. This goes for Children's songs as well that make their way into mixes that they shouldn't be in.

They're only useful for the lazy, like me... :)

I've got 28,000 tracks. There's not an awful lot of repetition, unless I'm making Genius playlists of similar songs.

On Octa-core Mac Pro, 16GB RAM and a Quad-core 27" iMac, 16GB RAM. Library sizes of 85GB and 45GB, respectively.

Yeah well, then I think 2 seconds might be a bit on the slow side... :D

I guess desktops still are that much faster. "Normal" desktops that is... Congratulations to your small pension fund! ;)

Ughh, iTunes still cannot find artwork for my perfectly tagged Smiths album "The Sound of the Smiths (Deluxe Edition) [Remastered]"

Anyone know any special tricks to getting iTunes to grab the stubborn ones?

use the image search. i used to use Google and Amazon, but bing has the best image search for album covers

Apple fixes flaw in iTunes

Apple has released iTunes version 9.2.1 to close a security-relevant vulnerability: In the Windows versions of iTunes up to version 9.2, attackers can use specially crafted itpc: URLs to provoke a buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code. The hole can be exploited remotely, for instance via specially crafted web pages.

Mac users also benefit from the update: for instance, Apple has resolved a problem with encrypted back-ups that occurred when updating iPod touch and iPhone devices to iOS 4.0. Apple also say that initial synchronisation now works more smoothly with certain devices, and that they have disabled obsolete, and therefore incompatible, third-party plug-ins.

What is this?

Feels like church, everyone is hoping for something better to come. But it's just a superstition with fabricated results.

Sounds like you two agree.

I think Apple needs to do a complete reboot of iTunes, with a sandboxed suite of programs for each type of media that are specifically designed for the best user experience and can potentially be controlled from a single user interface if needed.

Still can't view epub files visible in my iTunes library without a third party program or iPad - crazy!

it already does that. problem is that the data is stored in xml files or in a lite database. and i've read somewhere that the server back end is based on newsgroups. it also doesn't help that for us east coast people we have to go to california to access itunes server data

classic apple in that they have a nice front end and slick user interface, but behind the scenes it's crappier than the competition

I think it would be a positive change if you could call up your eBooks library & reader without having to go through booting your iTunes music library to get there.

But users should also be able to navigate to their book library from inside their music/movie library (which, to be fair, they can do at the moment. They just can't read the books themselves).

Furthermore, the ability to run your iPad/iPhone apps from inside iTunes should have been added from the start.

~1 TB iTunes Library on an external 2 TB drive. iMac 27" i7.

I think you forgot something of value there, Vader buddy... like a launch time quote?! I was originally quoting DMann earlier since he spoke about a 2-second launch but if you want to share yours... shoot.

Anyway, good to know you've decided to backup every album in existence. :D

2:1 voting for a very welcome update on the best media syncing, store, and jukebox software. With this type of vindictive psoting it's hard to believe this is not engadget or some other moronic pc trolling crowd site. Sad and pathetic to watch Mac rumours go down the drain, but what is even sadder is the moderators here who are so full of themselves that they don't think there's anything to be done, and ran who can't spare an extra dime from the cash cow that is mr for some paid moderators.

To come here and see 100 mere positive votes, and fifty something negative ones on an apple flagship priduct that gets an update, a product that's heads and shoulders better than the competition. What sad sight and a sad state of affairs.:apple:

Apt name for your site, I guess all these things should happen because you say so in your infinite wisdom.... Apple should offer an arm compiled environment within iTunes to run apps of ios that were never designed for a non touch interfaces to begin with, brilliant logic.

You find twice as many people being positive about an update to be a sad state of affairs?! That's a rather dark perspective on things.

Now, a media/music player running close to 200 Mb and which biggest appreciation right now seem to be usable artwork speeds from the company that reinvented personal music players on the other hand... For the record (no pun intended), I haven't voted either positive or negative since the voting system mostly seem to serve as grounds for more bickering. Call me neutral.

Of course they should. My humility and infinite wisdom are my finest assests ;)

I'm just thinking a little bit ahead here - if Apple were to offer multitouch screens in the next iteration of iMac/MacBook (and I know there are persuasive arguments against that), then implementing the ability to run apps from within iTunes would be cool.
