Apple Releases iTunes 9: New Media Syncing Options, Genius Mixes, iPhone App Organization

Updated. everything good. Except i don't like the white background during the Grid view looks terrible. .. is there any way to switch it back to the black color?

Ticked off and suspicious

Apple has got me so ticked off, I'll probably put my energy into getting a 1-G iPhone cheap and forget buying these ho-hum iPod touches. That way, Apple won't get a penny and I'll probably save money.

I need a camera, and I need a mike and I don't want to pay AT&T fees. I also need them soon. I thought I would get that in the new touches. Instead, Apple is giving the tiny Nano more features but not the iPod touch. Why? With that tiny 2.2-inch Nano screen you can't see much of what you've taken and the equally tiny battery isn't likely to last long in video mode.

What's going on? If Apple has production problems with camera-equipped touches, they should say so, give us the details of new touch, and a release date. This cult of secrecy is such a pain. You'd think they were the Kremlin circa 1935. Both have a cult-like obsession with not admitting mistakes.

Still worse is the possibility that Apple wants to build high walls between its products, doling out features in odd ways to fit a marketing straight-jacket. The iPhone would be for work and business for those with the money. The touch is for games but not recreation, hence the lack of a camera and the boring length of game promotion today. Color touch users fat and flabby couch potatoes. The Nano is for mostly outdoor recreation (camera and Nike added), but has nothing that lets you get work done. If so, it's stupid move.

To add insult to injury, I just checked the specs on the new touches. The 8 gig model ships with the old-style earphones not the remote earphones and without a plastic dock adapter. Total saving for Apple? Probably about 25 to 50 cents. Cost to customers who don't want to pull their touch out of their pocket every time they pause music: $30 That stinks. Heck, even the cheap little $59 Shuttle ships with remote earphones. While Jobs was gone, the niggling little bean counters seem to have been running Apple. This is the unfortunate result.

I hate companies that treat their customers as if they were stupid, and that's precisely how I feel Apple is treating its customers now.

iTunes 9 is horrid ... just horrid.

I've never had a bad word to say about Apple in my time on here, but compared to iTunes 8 this new version just looks so unfinished and unpolished.

itunes 9 .. first impression ... GOOD GOD IT LOOKS RUBBISH !!!!!

who designed this? a bunch of year 4 pupils while there school teacher was on maturity leave?

Anyone know if iTunes 9 is written in Open CL? Would love to have some faster performance, especially with my large library.

This isn't a beat thing right? It'll just be an upgrade to my current iTunes right? Because the update software doesn't find anything... maybe that's best since everyone seems to be after iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1

Is it just me, but are the gradients on iTunes 9 f**king dreadful?

There's a dirty dark line that runs right along the top of my version here, and it's really noticeable on the time ticker bar in the top "info window" section.

If I tilt my iMac forward as far as it'll go it's really, really noticeable.

No, itunes media organization is something new

I turned it on, and it reorganized my itunes music folder. Music, TV shows and Movies are now separate. Also, there is now a folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes". I confirmed any files copied to that folder get automatically added to itunes and removed from the folder.

I can't wait to try this on my huge movie collection at home.

This is a welcomed feature. Now if they'd only let us backup iTunes purchases to an external USB drive... my current method of using Applescripts to copy playlists misses the SD versions of HD downloads.

wooooh whats with the apple hating up on here tonight? nobody has to update to itunes 9, if you dont like it go back to itunes 8 and keep stum. I personally like the new feel, the old one was getting too dated, this looks sleek and modern. What would you lot prefer? kaleidascopic colours or sommat?? another apple keynote, more unhappy people. hmmm

Haha. Just tried it. Pro Tip: Don't check the consolidate box too when you do this, otherwise it will leave the old folders and everything will be in there twice. Then you have to mop up manually. :)

Oh, and bad things will happen next time you run TM:

I have to agree with people, the new iTunes doesn't look good. Doesn't fit in with the rest of mac apps. The news options for syncing are great though. I can't seem to get calendars to sync though. iTunes says I have no calendars, even though I have 4. Is it iTunes first bug?

Sleek and modern? Away you go and don't talk rubbish mate.

The gradients are all over the place and the white background on grid view looks horrendously bland.

No, no-one is asking for a kaleidoscopic of colour ... but iTunes 9 does NOT look more modern than iTunes 8 by a long shot. In fact, scrap more modern ... it doesn't even look as PROFESSIONAL, and that's the most worrying thing.

Download available on their website, but not in software update yet for me at least...

Same here. I clicked "download iTunes 9" from the Apple website, but the download didn't say "update," instead it said it was replacing only files that are updated. My iTunes still isn't version 9. Oh well, I'm moving on to the iPhone update now. I'll wait for the iTunes update to appear inside iTunes when I click "check for updates."

FAIL !

I can't get the home sharing to work at all...even went through the docs and followed the steps. On one machine, the sharing thing disappears entirely! On the other one I get can't connect errors. Anyone getting this to work?

What the hell is wrong with all of you? There are a bunch of newbies here posting links to download iTunes 9 which is obviously malware or patched with keyloggers, etc.

Never download ANY Apple software (or any other software for that matter) from any other place than the manufacturer's website.

Oh god. the UI nightmare gets worse in the iTunes store. Look how black the browser toolbar is...

and I have about 900 pixels of blank space toward the bottom of my homepage in the iTunes Store.

To my knowledge im not talking rubbish, hence why its my opinion. thus i said "personally i like it", you dont have to like my view on the itunes look lol, but you can respect it much like i will respect the fact that you "DONT" like it. Im just mildly surprised that there are so many people who dont like it.

I think the white grid view, doesnt look any worse than the grey one that was there before hand, as i said personal preference- we all got different strokes.

Last time i checked, itunes wasnt professional, its a media player, is there a degree of how a music/video/radio player should look?
hmm..
