Boy are you ever wrong.
I have multiple hard drives from the 90's that are still kicking.

Actually the general quality of hard drives has been getting worse.

I also have Terabytes of data, and I wouldn't dream of not having it backed up. I have experienced data loss once, and that was once too many.
While that may be true, that doesn't mean that having everything backed up should be a scape goat for Apple to excuse the data loss bug.

Is it just me or the fact that Mac users get excited when 10.6.# update rolls out. I don't see Windows users get happy about when an update comes along and I'm not talking about service packs here.

I was just telling one of my friends how when the Software Update pop up, it's a holiday on the macforums. LOL:D

How long is the battery supposed to last? My remote's only 4 months old. The security settings are fine.

Ok it seems the problem was with hulu desktop. Looks like 10.6.2 fixed the remote issues (restored control of the remote to the "current" application), but changed the way the remote works, so now hulu desktop doesn't work with the remote at all.

Has anyone else's (white) apple remote completely stopped working? I was hoping 10.6.2 would fix the remote issues brought on by SL, not completely disable it.

Mine works, but only in iTunes and FrontRow. It used to work in VLC, EyeTV, Plex, and others but would launch iTunes every time you pressed play. Now it doesn't do anything at all in those programs. Maybe it is fixed on Apple's end and we have to wait for the VLC and others to update their software...

And where did I say that?

Please quote me.

I replied to your post saying have fun backing up terabytes and terabytes of data, with a comment saying have fun when your hard drive dies.

Which if you actually read the rest of this thread you would've realized what that followed into before that comment.

Well, I am just gonna take the first post because the rest of the complaints is pretty much subjective BS.

Cons.
No video as desktop function - DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS.
Quicktime options gone. - You don't need them, but if you want you can install a separate pref pane.
That damn beach ball. - NONE here.
Safari crashing at way too often. - Safari crashed only once in 2 months.
Damn beach ball again - NONE here.
Safari taking longer to load pages. - WRONG.
Beach ball again - NONE here.
Trash and the securely delete function. What exactly was wrong with 'empty trash' then disk utility erase function? - BS.
IDVD, taking 30 to 40% longer to burn disk. (this one really takes the !!!!) - DON'T USE IT.
Opening applications takes longer. Boring!!!!! - WRONG.
Beach ball yet again - NONE here.
Systems hangs a lot more. There's that flaming beach ball again - NONE here.

Net result? ZERO problems.

People like you are the reason I was a Windows user for 20 years. I'm really looking forward to my new I7 27" imac arriving, but fanboys put me off apple as a company so much

Did you go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output and selected 'Internal Speakers'. That did it for me.

Had to do this also. I wonder if it's exclusively a bug with Audio Hijack Pro. It selected the Soundflower output for me after restarting. I figured I just forgot to switch it back at some point last night. That's a pretty strange bug either way.

Other than that, the death of growlmail (again), and the incredibly long install time, I haven't had any other issues.

Installing Now Pretty fast download tonight! hopefully this will bring on change to Safari and it's Legginess within flash player

You know, I have a few from the 90s as well. I'm glad you've had good luck, but when one fails I just hope you'll remember to come back and post that and point out how you were victim to false security and spreading misinformation.

Everything Works Again!

Everything that was wrong is working again!

Safari is loading pages that froze in 10.6.1. I'm SO happy. I literally "Force Quit" Safari 10-20 times per day!

Adobe CS4 seems to be working better again. InDesign CS4 would crash every time I tried to export a PDF. So happy to have that back!

:)

Wow, it's amazing how fast you people jump to conclusions. When did I ever say they weren't backed up? I simply said they were still working. I never said they would last FOREVER.

You're right. Doesn't work with Spotify anymore either. By the way: Did Quicktime Player just get its own giant "Front Row"-like progress indicator, or have I missed that before ? It is shown whenever you press one of the Apple Remote's playback control buttons while being in QT Player's full-screen mode

is this spotlight archiving my files again?

Still doesn't fix the runaway kernal_task issue on Rev A Macbook Airs.

Bummer. Not looking forward to the fight with Applecare over this.

My GPU is finally back to comfortable temperatures on my iMac. Up until today, my GPU diode temperature averaged at about 155°F, and it is now at 128°F.

(Probably already has been commented on since this is page 14)

No, you didn't just say they were still working, what you said is:

What a pitiful retort that was. As long as your hard drive isn't a factory lemon or isn't surge protected they don't just randomly die.

So which is it? They don't randomly die or they won't last forever?

That's just silly.

Yeah, some people are annoying. But cutting off one's nose to spite one's face?

As much time as we spend on computers these days, the only rational decision is to use what works for you and ignore the idiots out there. Rapid fanbois are not the result of any company's actions. There are plenty of real things to dislike about the way any particular company does business.

Still, I think the difference varies between users. The usage pattern and environments are quite different. I won't reject a company just because someone said something good/bad about.

I have near 19 years with windows, though I just recently moved my major developments to mac. I like mac just because there is less hassle about crashing and it is the only laptop I had in years (my first one was in 95, and possible had 10) that is you open the lid and it shows login in seconds.

:) Well, good luck with the I7, I wish I still have some money lying around to buy one. :)

Ok then, let me rephrase that for you. They don't just randomly die until good time. Is that better for you?

Fortunately, Remote Buddy seems to handling 10.6.2 without issues. I moved to that a while back to deal with the AR/Hulu issues.
