Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.6.2

Imac 27 issues

I was really hoping that this update would fix the issues on the new Imac 27'

Apparently, It fixed the slow playback issue but the HD still making loud noises.

Hopefully this will fix the mousepad-click problem I've been having on my June-2009 MBP 15".
Sometimes when I open it from sleep I can't tap to click anymore, even though the setting is still enabled in Preferences.
re-enabling works, but it's kinda annoying having to do so every time.

My exposé is now much smoother. Dashboard and spaces are still jerky, however, especially with external monitor attached.

Macbook 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, X3100 graphics.

Unlike with OS X where I still have the broken iTunes dashboard widget (since 10.4.0 = over 5 years)

I'm curious, what exactly is broken about it? I've been using it for a year and half and havn't had any issues with it at all.

On the back 'info' side you can choose a playlist from the pop-up ... except that the pop-up doesn't work ... not since iTunes 8 came out at least. Either way, the shuffle button does not work on its main display, and attempting to use it eventually results in a crash report dialog.

I can see where this monstrous bug would really prohibit you from being productive and getting any work done on your computer.

It certainly gets in the way. One of my favourite improvements in SL is the ability to sort by kind in open/save dialogs. For the way in which so many of us still work with deep folder trees, especially for work, having all the folders listed in a row is just so convenient. And that's what stacks have lost. I would say it costs minutes over the space of a day - after I *sigh* most times I am reminded of it, I then have to scroll down in the list view stack, and repeat for however many levels I'm navigating. And then let's not forget time spent posting about it :).

I just sometimes find it annoying that most of the fixes listed in the OS updates don't mean much to me, but the flaws that are so visible to me remain unchecked. Mind you, for this one it could be worse, remember in 10.5.0 they took out the ability to even have navigable folders in the dock .

What a pitiful retort that was.

Actually it was a very astute one; if you don't back up your data, you WILL lose it. It doesn't matter what the cause is, whether it's lightning strike, spilled tea or hardware failure. Personally I learned this lesson when relying on Windows XP to store my information - I now use a Mac with a full backup of everything.

As long as your hard drive isn't a factory lemon or isn't surge protected they don't just randomly die.

So what? Do you honestly believe that the only way you can lose data is by hard drive failure? You're the one complaining about the SL data-deletion bug (which was in place BEFORE Snow Leopard), and yet you question the need to back up data.

I'm glad you don't do my IT support.

Is it just me, or has the Expose algorithm been subtly tweaked (and improved)? I'm sure that when I used to open say, Firefox (full screen), Firefox downloads window (tiny) and a Finder window (average size), they'd be stacked next to each other in a line - in 10.6.2 they are arranged in a triangle (2 on top, 1 below) - I could be wrong and this might have always been the case but it seems like an improvement to me - maybe I'll learn to love the new version yet! Either that, or I've just got so used to the new method... wouldn't be entirely unlike Apple to tweak it without admitting they'd got it wrong in the first place though ;)

That aside, very pleased with this update from my point of view - animations (e.g. Expose and Spaces) are a lot smoother (probably back to their old 10.5.x speed), and I'm very glad they've fixed the four finger swipe issue, that was really annoying me!

Not noticed anything else fixed/changed yet but I'm starting to feel a lot happier with Snow Leopard with this update, seems like they've listened to some feedback - long may it continue!

I think they are just enjoying the moment. In a positive kind of way... Sometimes I think we label people with comments like that (including this one perhaps) as we wish to see them, but in fact do not exist that way from their own side posessing those attributes you describe as 'sad'?!?

Got to love the Buddhist philosophy shown here - far too much venting at other people's comments goes on in here (and the internet in general) :)

Again, source please. (Specifically that which relates to flash in Safari as being improved or fixed).

Read my lips..FLASH is made by ADOBE not Apple. Apple can do nothing to make Flash better. However they can and did make the Safari Plug-in better.

And Flash is a Plug-in. It's a plug-in because Flash on OSX is 32-bit while Safari is 64-bit.

Improvements were made to the WebkitPluginAgent.

I know because it was one of my radar bugs fixed.

Well, it still works for me. The behavior did not change. Try attach things that are not PDF. You should see the difference then.

When you attach PDF, right click it -> view as icon. :)

Mail attachments iconizer is not working for me. it gives error on launch, and all attachments are viewable...not icons.
also when sending emails to non-mac users the attachments have issues.

Reading through this thread makes me realise how incredibly sad a lot of people on these forums are. Stuff like:

"Jesus Christ? I think you'll find his name is Steve"
"I'm SOOO happy!"
"GO APPLE"
"157.7 - late 2007 MBP... see y'all in a few mins!"

It's an OS update for a computer. Get a life people.

They're posts on an internet forum. Get a life.

Fingered

Glad to see that 4-Finger bug on the list. It's been driving me a little nuts...

my automator services stop working,
on the menu bar it shows 'building..'

on the keyboard system preferences it shows nothing at all.
anyone having this too?

Honestly, I never had a problem with Vista. However, some people did. Same with Snow Leopard.

That guest account bug is pretty terrible though. No one could even expect that sort of thing =\

It's not about problems, but about overall impression. All operating systems have problems more or less, but saying Snow Leopard = Vista is just plain stupid. These operating systems are from different galaxies.

And about that bug. What's so special? It's a bug, just happens it's guest account related. It could be kernel related with data loss or 1 000 000 000 other things.
