I have an early 2006 white MacBook running a 2 GHz Core Duo and 2GB of ram, since installing 10.6.2 my fans are wizzing like there is no tomorrow even when everything appears to be idling.

codo, look in activity monitor and see what process is running. Something is obviously stuck. Do you have a lot of fonts? I had fc-cache run for about a minute.

I'm updated and I am pleased. SL is running smoother, there is no spinning beach ball when I go to system preference.

However, the right side of the menu bar (my right) where the airport, spotlight , time machine, and istat icons are, take about 5 seconds to show up after start up.

This was the case before 10.6.2.

Memory after 10.6.2

I just completed the combo update on my MacPro. The about this mac only shows 2 of the 4 GB of installed memory. Anyone else have this issue after the update?

Does anybody with a macbook have a problem with their CAPS lock key?

My doesn't respond to being touched. But, if I touch it on using virtual keyboard, the green light comes on. Also, if I connect an external keyboard, the green light comes on on my macbook keyboard.

I spoke to Apple Care who said they'll pick it up, but I cannot really afford to lose it for any amount of time until January. I've only had the problem since I upgraded to SL.

Boot time increased

Just finished updating to 10.6.2 and noticed that the boot time is increased from 38 seconds to 59 seconds.

Tried many times, it came out the same numbers. There is nothing to load while booting the MACBOOK Pro 13.

Not a big deal, cause I never shut the computer, just let it goes into sleep mode. But just curious if other notice the same thing.

This is a security feature, not a bug; and it's been there since forever. If you don't type your password after a few seconds, OS X will get back to sleep.

I know as much, but it was like when you move the mouse or type on the keyboard and would never EVER go away from the login screen or go back to sleep... very strange, almost like it was thinking something was being moved regularly... *shrug*

Good news though: this morning it appears to be fixed. Hooray!

NTFS Fixed

Looks like it fixed my issue with writing to remote NTFS drives. Prior to the update the file would copy but display an error at the end of the copy. I copied a few movies from my MBP to my main drive backup and ended up corrupting the iTunes directory on it. That was a nightmare to repair. Glad to see it's fixed in this new release.

There was a fix for this recently posted on HawkWings. It requires updating a preference from the command line, which suggests this was an intentional change on Apple's part (so won't be fixed as a bug, but might be changed due to public outcry).

Brilliant! Thanks! I actually changed it using MacPilot. Now Mail is just copying the address instead of the name too.

Ugh!

Most useless post I've seen in a looooong time! How about a comment about 10.6.2 - it's issues or non-issues - your political bs is irritating.

I have loads of lists that I need to import into spreadsheets. If I use Pages, then I do File->Export as Plain Text, if I use TextEdit, I just save the lists as TXT files, using either tabs or commas to separate say, Surname, Firstname.

I then open the TXT file in MSExcel and they appear in columns and rows as they're meant to. If I need to bring these into an existing spreadsheet, I copy & paste from within Excel rather than from the TXT file.

Great suggestion. I use that method often for other things. The problem here is a I have a list of names where some are capitalized and some are not. I go into Pages and tell it to give them all a Title Capitalization. If I copy and paste or save as a text file it remembers the lowercase. If I print it shows them all starting with uppercase so if I "print" to a PDF it also makes them all uppercase. This is the only way I can find to make all the names start with an uppercase letter. In 10.5 this worked well but with the new supposedly more accurate text selection in 10.6 it destroys my list and does random breaks. So everything works except for bringing it back into the spreadsheet (Open Office).

Got to love the Buddhist philosophy shown here - far too much venting at other people's comments goes on in here (and the internet in general) :)

True. The post you quoted was kind of refreshingly nice in a completely non-judgmental way. Always nice to see that. Although you've got to admit, this place is relatively mellow compared to the rest of 'the internet'.

My sound prefs now reset to internal speaker with every restart.

(Mac Pro)

Mine reset to internal speakers with the update, but that was the only time. Restarts are leaving it alone. I have it set to Digital Out that runs to my BOSE receiver. I have a Mac Pro 2006 (first generation). Sorry you are having problems.

Anyone else out there that know any news on the whole drag n drop problem. It's all over the place. I use it all the time, so it's really starting to become rather annoying. If any developing news, PLEASE let us know if you know anything.

I've done it twice since I read your post without problem. I have CS4. Just drag an image from Safari into the dock icon of PS and it opens no problem.

But how many of them deserved to be flamed; read all 26 pages of this news item alone and you'll want to throw a chair through a window. There is stupidity then there is stupidity expressed by people who think that they're cool or that they're still right even though there is a mountain of evidence to the contrary (aka the ******** who posted the xbench result as one example).

Michelle Gill from the Grow Discussion group post this quick fix for growl mail.
I am testing it now.

I have Growl Mail (via Growl 1.2) working fine on 10.6.2. You have to
add the following two UUID's to the Info.plist file in
GrowlMail.mailbundle/Contents/Info.plist:
2F0CF6F9-35BA-4812-9CB2-155C0FDB9B0F
0CB5F2A0-A173-4809-86E3-9317261F1745
Make sure the bundle is in ~/Library/Mail/Bundles (and not "Bundles
(Disabled)") and quit mail and restart. Seems to be working for me.
Cheers,
Michelle G

Thanks. Worked for me.

10.6.2 KILLED MY WINDOWS BOOTCAMP PARTITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cant boot into bootcamp. i get a disk cannot be read error

OSX cant mount the partition with disk utility.

I've been using VMWare fusion 3 and Boot Camp. Both work fine for me. Hope you get it resolved.

i dont know but after update the system, the macbook is overheating.... 70 °C and just surfing the web without flash.

Yeah, I'm not saying you don't have a point there too. I guess it's all about one's attitude. Certainly some kind of 'corrective' is probably needed to counteract certain questionable posts.

Take a look at the Airport Utility preferences. There's a setting for checking for updates, though I'm not sure why it would alert you every time (i.e. on hourly backups).

On a side note, I've tried 7.4.2 many times now, only to revert to 7.4.1 (and it'll stay there until 7.4.3 or later...). Otherwise, it seems to go "dumb" - where it functions properly as an access point, but forgets how to be a network drive.

Beautiful! Thanks so much... just updated the setting. I completely forgot about that. My issues were on the other side -- my Time Capsule would remember how to be a network drive, but I'd have no Internet access.

I had issues with 7.4.1 as well, so I rolled it back to 7.3.2 a while ago. A friend of mine recently threw a party and tried to use multiple AirTunes speakers to play music throughout the house, but because he had 7.4.2 on his base station, the network dropped and had to be reset at least once every half-hour.
