It seems as if the update just doesn't appear, so you have to search the app store for the mac os high sierra to locate it..

From Reddit:
You need to SEARCH to get the update.
Search for “macos high sierra” and it will show up. It’s categorized under Utilities for some reason... and it’s not shown as featured anywhere on the main page.

My download initially estimated 8 minutes. Now it is estimating over 3 hours.

Is this any different from the developer GM build?

Edit: looks like this is a newer version:

GM build number : 17A362a

Final build number: 17A365

Although this isn't news, I'm still kind of floored that my mid-2010 iMac continues to be supported and updated by Apple. That's why I made the decision to purchase that computer—my first Apple computer—back then, and that's the reason I continue to love Apple products.

Appalling download speeds here in the UK. It's gone from 5 minutes remaining to 9 hours and rapidly climbing.

Is it possible to simply copy the Installer from one Mac to another or do I need to download it on my second Mac?

Yes you can do that but you have to copy the installation file before you hit the install button, otherwise it will be deleted in the process.

Don't remember where exactly the temporary dmg file is being stored but it is quite easy to locate

Late-2011 MacBook Pro here but similar vintage. Had in-place upgrades or Migration Assistant moves going all the way back to my eMac G4 on Jaguar (OSX 10.2). Really must try one of these wipe-and-reinstall things one of these years.

I wonder if there are any games built with Metal 2 support? Not sure if such support is required from games developers' side but maybe someone here knows?...

I wouldn't take the chance. Wait on geo-stationary orbital Sierra.
I was waiting until Apple realized they were going in the wrong direction and come out with their Journey To The Center Of Sierra edition.

I've downloaded it, but am waiting for post-install reports before upgrading my laptop.

Would love to have a link for Combo Update but it seemed like Apple has not released that yet.
That's not what a Combo Update is.

A Combo Update is a standalone updater to the major software release (like 10.12 Sierra). As its name implies, it is combination of updates (deltas). Thus there is no 10.xx.1 Combo Update. The Combo Updates start where there are multiple delta updates, namely 10.xx.2 Combo Update which includes the 10.xx.0 > 10.xx.1 changes, as well as the 10.xx.1 > 10.xx.2 changes.

The major releases (like 10.12.0 Sierra and 10.13.0 High Sierra) have their own standalone installers. When Apple releases a new minor version, they rebuild the downloadable Mac App Store installer so it has data from that latest minor version release. Thus if you download the OS from the Mac App Store, you are getting the latest official release including any minor revisions (if available).
