My M1 Mini had the same hung update (though my download was fine). I ended up just turning it off and back on again and then it was able to complete the update.
Yes I ended up doing that and the update completed. I have a dual monitor setup and when it was hung, the progress bar was on the primary monitor and when I turned off the machine and restarted, the progress bar came up on the other screen, which I thought was a bit strange.

Once I logged in, the monitor config was lost (two screen positions were in the wrong place, and the resolution was also lost) so I had to re-config.

I had Time Machine backup so I was not so worried about losing anything but it was just the bother of having to restore, if anything was lost. Glad I didn't have to do that.

What's the point of Big Sur 11.6.1? It still crashes Safari trying to bookmark YouTube link so what does it fix or add? Anyhow, upgrading to Monterey 12.0.1 now.

Anyone had any problems updating the 2019 MacPro? Following the Monterey update, mine is now a brick... won't even turn on... nothing, zero.

I'll be curious to see those who have just 8 GB with an M1, if they have a popup that asks to free up memory (and close apps) from time to time. I believe it's a memory leak somewhere, because some apps like Safari, and Office take up to 40 GB of memory from time to time.

This is a bug with the new macOS Monterey cursor tint option. It leaks memory on [NSCursor set]. Makes sense that Office and other word processors are doing this cursor changing regularly regularly.

Firefox does it abnormally frequently, so it shows up there quite quickly. It's tracked here for Firefox: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1735345

In the short term, disable cursor tint (I'm assuming that you've turned it on, it's in System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Display -> Pointer tab).

It's been like this for the last 3-4 betas. I guess Apple will get more pressure to actually fix it now that it's released.

Damn there really isn't any new nature/landscape wallpapers :/
I was just thinking the same! They're all Big Sur/Catalina wall papers?
Installed and it’s exactly like big sur kinda disappointing, feels exactly the same
Agreed, nothing new or in your face new. Unless I am missing something. Still I like being a guinea pig, ever since I owned a brand new Mac in 2004, I have upgraded to the latest OS as soon as I was able to and never really had any issues.

Is anyone else seeing it being downloaded as 12.0.1?

If using a external monitor:
  • There might be issues with wakeup when dual monitors are connected. (79839446)
Workaround: Connect the power adapter that came with the Mac.

I just installed it… it’s downloaded then restarted and installed, yet when it finished and rebooted I still have Big Sur and it’s asking me to update to Monterey again!

I'm updating now. I don't know what to expect, but this is a pretty big update. From someone who is not in graphic design or making movies, what is the best feature on Monterey. I feel like I don't use the mac up to it's capabilities as well as I should.

Any news about Safari 15.1 for Big Sur?
I need the "classic" tabs, the modern design is so annoying.

Classic is Back. I say similar because I think they changed the height of the top address bar to be the same across macOS. Doesn't bother me much for now.

FaceTime and SharePlay is native now
upcoming Universal Control will be another show stopper they had to partially disable so it wasn't part of 12.0.1
All the privacy improvements such as Mail Privacy Protection
Maps does a bit more now.

Live text is cool
Live Text is a feature that recognizes text in photos and lets you select, copy, and paste it. If you take a photo of a receipt, macOS Monterey recognizes the text and then turns it into something that can be copied and pasted into another app.
This works for both typed and handwritten text, and it supports URLs, phone numbers, addresses, and more. You can tap on a handwritten phone number, for example, to get to an interface to call or text it. All text detection for this feature is done on-device so no personal information leaves your Mac.

After it downloaded, and prepared itself before you can install you need to see a dialog show that is asking for admin passcode? then 15 to 30 seconds later it should be installing. (no timer to shutdown)

Have you ran first aid on the volume this is being installed on to make sure it OK?

mine did that and then after a long time the installer suddenly appeared. but it feels like a fresh install, it's a bit odd...

However i typed in my password thinking it will ask more questions but now it's just running the install so i really hope it doesn't break everything, I really should have done a time machine backup first... ops :/
Mine ended up spitting out an error message about it not having passed Gate Keeper validation.

Re downloaded it from the beginning and now it’s installing, I think.

Thankfully I’m not installing it on my main Mac (the Mac mini). Will post back once it’s up and running.

Any M1 owners experiencing any immediate bugs on Monterey? I'm kinda getting the vibe that it's a very small change to MacOS but I don't dare pull the trigger.

A quick initial review. Using it on my MacBook Pro 2015 Intel Machine

For some strange reason I am in the group that reported Big Sur was slower than Catalina, and Catalina was slower than Mojave. That is with both the MacOS and Safari. So Big Sur was slow and not a smooth experience.

Monterey so far beings back the speed / snappiness of Mojave. Safari feels so much more responsive under heavy tab usage. The micro-pause ( Jank ) and lag are gone. As if they put back all the optimisation for x86 previously left out.

Hopefully it will stay this way in the coming days and weeks.
