Just upgraded my 2020 iMac to Monterey.

One think, that really disapointed me was the lack of nice wallpapers. Ure, not the most important feature. But macOS always had very high quality wallpapers, when I first saw a Mac with the „Milky Way“ wallpaper I thought „wow“ and hat the instand felling, that I want this two.

With Monterey there are no nice new wallpapers, just a really ugly graphics… There is no „wow“ anymore.

I switched back to the Big Sur Wallpapers, which is really sad…

The installer fails multiple times even after a fresh reboot, the fail occurs after the installer runs and you click "Restart", it fails to bless the drive.

"An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again."

Installer log says:
"Oct 25 15:22:36 server osishelperd[1263]: ====== BLESS STDERR END ======
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osishelperd[1263]: Bless failed with error num: 3
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osinstallersetupd[1243]: -[OSISHelperProxy blessUpdateBundleAtPath:mutableProductPath:enclosingMountPoint:]_block_invoke_2: Error Domain=com.apple.bless Code=3 "(null)"
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osinstallersetupd[1243]: Unable to setup bless on disk."

NOT well tested, Apple! MacBookPro11,5 mid 2015 MBP 15".

"We built Safari from the very beginning to provide the best browsing experience on Mac, and it continues to blow the competition out of the water," said Federighi."

Nice spin Craig. Safari is not, nor has it ever been the best browsing experience on the Mac. Quite to the contrary, it's universally known & acknowledged to be the worst.

A quick initial review. Using it on my MacBook Pro 2015 Intel Machine

For some strange reason I am in the group that reported Big Sur was slower than Catalina, and Catalina was slower than Mojave. That is with both the MacOS and Safari. So Big Sur was slow and not a smooth experience.

Monterey so far beings back the speed / snappiness of Mojave. Safari feels so much more responsive under heavy tab usage. The micro-pause ( Jank ) and lag are gone. As if they put back all the optimisation for x86 previously left out.

Hopefully it will stay this way in the coming days and weeks.
I have an M1 Mini and I think Monterey is quicker than Big Sur on it.

*Best* is code word for tons of sites refusing to work on Safari.

FULLY loaded MBP 16" 2020 version, can't install the upgraded after downloading...keep getting either upgrade failed or cannot personalize upgrade.

What a joke.

Yes, 2015 MBA, 1.8gz here. It truly is snappier than Catalina and Big Sur. It always felt sluggish in Big Sur. Catalina was ok, bug BS really bogged it down. Eventually after 11.6 is was improved.

Updated and flawless so far.
Safari is still carrying the same broken tab spacing in compact view, seems they shipped the same mess just with old tabs option ??‍♂️

Anyone had any problems updating the 2019 MacPro? Following the Monterey update, mine is now a brick... won't even turn on... nothing, zero.
An update…. I called Apple Support and they had me connect the Mac Pro to my MacBook Pro using a USB cable and configurator. We then put the Mac Pro into DFU and from there we were able to use the revive function and configurator to get the system back up and running and then to wait for Monterey to finish its install. What seems to have happened is that the firmware did not update during the update process resulting in the computer freaking out. All is well now.

Bit miffed it is the same as the last beta. Too many issues with safari and photos and external drives, I was hoping for fixes. And my wallpapers and screen savers are still on another planet somewhere.

I was thinking maybe the installer you downloaded is corrupted, and you need to redownload it. That happened on one earlier beta for me.

Did it ask you for owner permission to proceed (admin passcode)

alternative is to open terminal and type
sudo softwareupdate -i -a -R
enter passcode

If I'm getting a new MBP in a couple weeks, should I avoid this upgrade to ensure it's behind the new comp? I don't want to be in a situation where I need to upgrade the new MBP to make sure it is at pace or ahead of my current computer when transferring my data.

Edit: or conversely, is it recommended that I DO upgrade to ensure things go as smoothly as possible?

Just curious...what, if anything, do you all find compelling about upgrading to Monterey?
One thing for me will be the 'Quick Notes' application as I use 'NOTES' quite often. Will also get back into using some 'Shortcuts' (which haven't been available on the Mac til now).

Yes I ended up doing that and the update completed. I have a dual monitor setup and when it was hung, the progress bar was on the primary monitor and when I turned off the machine and restarted, the progress bar came up on the other screen, which I thought was a bit strange.

Once I logged in, the monitor config was lost (two screen positions were in the wrong place, and the resolution was also lost) so I had to re-config.

I had Time Machine backup so I was not so worried about losing anything but it was just the bother of having to restore, if anything was lost. Glad I didn't have to do that.
I have dual monitors as well and experienced the same exact issues with the settings being lost (including the monitor positions being swapped).

My Air M1 seems to be stuck on beta 9 (21A5543b). I'm in the beta program, and don't seem to get any of the updates, RC or final. Any ideas?
