What did you guys expect? Another redesign after last year? MacOS X looked the same from version 10.0 to 10.9, then a sort of new design from 10.10 to 10.15 and you can expect this 'Big Sur' design to last a couple of versions.
I meant my remarks more in the context of how smooth and uneventful the upgrade was.

Installed on MBP (2017): only fuss so far is loss of wallpapers for my several desktops. Also installed on iPhone/IPadPro and ATV (newest) as well as AppleWatch....no problems. Very happy to not have to have gone through the issues with the iPadPro as per the previous update (had to update via the MBP and it took several hours/tries.).

The installer fails multiple times even after a fresh reboot, the fail occurs after the installer runs and you click "Restart", it fails to bless the drive.

"An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again."

Installer log says:
"Oct 25 15:22:36 server osishelperd[1263]: ====== BLESS STDERR END ======
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osishelperd[1263]: Bless failed with error num: 3
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osinstallersetupd[1243]: -[OSISHelperProxy blessUpdateBundleAtPath:mutableProductPath:enclosingMountPoint:]_block_invoke_2: Error Domain=com.apple.bless Code=3 "(null)"
Oct 25 15:22:36 server osinstallersetupd[1243]: Unable to setup bless on disk."

NOT well tested, Apple! MacBookPro11,5 mid 2015 MBP 15".
Zapped PRAM and rebooted into MaOS Setup Utility, apparently with a firmware update, apparently part of the Monerey update process. Got the following, see photo attached. Apple FAIL.

I have a mid 2014 MBP, Will I be able to get the update?
I have a late 2013 MBP and the answer is, no.
I think for the MBP it has to be 2015 or newer.
They have released a Big Sur upgrade to 11.6.1.
There some workarounds to install Monterey on older Macs, but I don't fancy doing that.

Says the requested version of MacOS is not available. Seems like they may have pulled it?

Edit:App store said it was compatible but according to the website it’s not, MacBook Pro 2014. Guess it’s time to get new hardware.

Apple quality control is in the toilet, and said toilet is backed up and will not flush.

Clearly work from home is not working out well at Apple... and WHY does the Mac always suck the hind tit?!

3 hours downloading the file for it then to become an error at the very end and start re-downloading it again from 0, No, thanks, will try it again in about a weeks time. Bollocks!!!

still cannot install (see image, produced after Restart ok)

downloaded installer trice, tried several times in normal mode and safe boot mode

Did first aid on the the components of the APFS drive as suggested above. Returns with OK, though several 'warning:eek:rphan omap mappings found for....."

Can someone share the process for how the update works after you download it? It's showing 5 hours for downloading on my end so trying to see if I can go to sleep and it will run without my supervision.

Its more directed to apps that aren't notorized
see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252036456
read all replies
see the post from leroydouglas that is about "How to open an app that hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer"
Please, elaborate what's wrong with Gatekeeper?

Thanks

Disable GateKeeper

Disable before upgrading and re-enabled after.

Open Terminal app

Run this command to disable Gatekeeper

sudo spctl --master-disable
Run this command to check if Gatekeeper is disabled

spctl --status

doesn't work...
If this is a recent Mac, contact apple support via phone and ask them what you should do would be next step. The store can always use Apple Configurator 2 using another connected Mac to get you to Monterey.

Alternatively I was thinking maybe the CRC check for the Monterey installer failed and needs to be re-downloaded

thank resolved by disabling Gatekeaper

If I'm getting a new MBP in a couple weeks, should I avoid this upgrade to ensure it's behind the new comp? I don't want to be in a situation where I need to upgrade the new MBP to make sure it is at pace or ahead of my current computer when transferring my data.

Edit: or conversely, is it recommended that I DO upgrade to ensure things go as smoothly as possible?
bump as this gets lost in previous pages. appreciate any help.
