Looks like my job for tonight is my annual fresh install! It may not be necessary but I do it out of habit and to keep my mind at peace. Clearing out a year's worth of hidden cache and junk files feels good!
Except one of Sierra's new features is supposed to do that for you by moving it all to the cloud. Do you trust it?

I installed it and now have 30GB more free on my ssd. Not sure why. Happy but a bit worried.

I noticed that as well when installing the GM a week or so ago (on a separate partition). So much free space on the old system drive, but nothing seems to be missing. Is the recovery partition smaller? Does it clear all cashes before installing? Does it compress the file system now?

PS: I won't be running Sierra for a while, every time I switch off or unplug my audio interface (Steinberg UR44), complete kernel panic. Probably will take half a year for drivers to get fixed... PDF editing seems broken as well.

Installed and disabled Siri! I have never used Siri on my phone or ipad or MBPR. MBPR MID 2014 is faster than before, like the overall updates except useless Siri.
Siri for me is indispensable. I can't wait to have it on my Mac. To each his own so I get it.

The unlocking feature with Apple Watch used to work (occasionally) and with the official release it no longer works. Copy and paste from my MacBook Pro to iPhone 6 Plus is slloooowwwww with text and doesn't even work with images.

Those features are certainly designed to keep things in top shape. But a fresh install nullifies hidden folders and files that get left behind through use. Before the install I was using over 60GB of storage on my SSD. After fresh install, a little over 15GB. Same apps installed, almost identical in every way. That's a whole load of hidden stuff. But I certainly do believe Sierra will assist in stopping these phantom files from hanging around.

I searched is thread for "Aperture" and didn't find anything. Now that Sierra has been released can anyone enlighten me about Aperture's compatibility with Sierra vs the previous OSX?

I usually upgrade straight away, but i have been caught out too many times now, so i am going to leave it at least a few days before i upgrade.

I remember when they released El Capitan, it was supposed to be bug free as it was and update supposed to be all about reliability and efficiency rather than new features, well it had more bugs than any of Apples recent OSX releases, i couldn't believe how bad it was.

So going to leave it for a while, i was one of the ones that downloaded iOS 10 in the first hour and ended up with a crashed phone, so thats still fresh in my mind. The recent release of iTunes seems to have quite a few problems as well.

So i am not going to be an early upgrader anymore, its not worth the risk as i am very happy with El Capitan, so in no rush to upgrade.
I'm no fan of El Capitain, but I agree with you on everything else. I'm going back to an old policy of running one version of the OS behind, that way I am always running the latest version to be FULLY DEVELOPED. Apple have simply made too many bungles recently to be trusted with installing their latest software, and I will not risk even more instability in exchange for a few gimmicks.

9 minutes to download, over an hour to install. Canada. My TM backup has been going for 2 hours...to a USB drive 12 inches away on Thunderbolt. 2011 iMac. I'll have to watch TV...

Is rmbp 2014 gonna be just fine with sierra? I feel that el capitan has made my mac feels pretty slow sometimes, I just don't wanna upgrade to feel downgraded :(

So I just updated to Sierra and I am having some problems with iCloud contact syncing.

All of the contacts on my Macs Contacts App have disappeared. (I've double checked to make sure I'm logged in to the correct iCloud account on my Mac and contacts is ticked in iCloud System preferences). My contacts are still on iCloud (I can see them on my iPhone and I can see them when I log into iCloud on a browser). If I now add a new contact on the mac contacts app, it DOES sync to iCloud. And if I delete this new contact on my iPhone, it DOES delete off the mac app.

So the syncing is in part working post update, but only for new contacts I make. All my pre-OS-update contacts on iCloud are not showing on the contacts app.

I tried importing these contacts from a backup to the mac contacts app but this ended badly as I just ended up with duplicates on all my other devices.

Is anyone else having contacts issues?
(And can anyone help?)

Started the download before coming to work, so have to wait until tonight to install it. Have to sort my backup drive first as it's run out of space so CCC can't complete a backup.

Hopefully it works well on my 2011 iMac. It's got an SSD and has had the Bluetooth/wireless card upgrade done.

The other choice, update or clean install. El Capitan was done fresh about 3 months ago and I just let it copy my data from the CCC backup.

Naa. I feel like a fresh install helps my MacBook to keep running at maximum speed now it's getting on a bit. Flush out the hidden files and the stuff uninstalled apps always leave behind. I don't mind doing it, it's a pretty easy process and doesn't take too long at all. At the end of it my MacBook feels brand new.
If you are worried about programs leaving files behind when you delete a program, pick up AppDelete. I've found this to be really good. One thing that always annoyed me was that Apple doesn't include any kind of uninstaller for removing programs. There is this idea that dragging a program to the trashcan uninstalls it, but this only DELETES it, which is a different thing entirely. Uninstallers remove the program, and all the files that go with it.
Here is the link, if you want to check it out (and no, I am not affilitated with the developer or connected with them in any way).

Having never had any issues with the beta, my WiFi is now dropping out like crazy since the GM. YMMV. :/

paused the download - thanks guys for posting these, sorry that I can't offer any insight

Its awesome that Siri has made it to mac.

Though just tried my hardest to ask siri all questions relating to "Walking Dead season 7" be it premier or details about the season and it just keep searching iTunes store. Siri is awful compared to the other assistants :( Tried the same searches with google and it gave me the results I wanted and not just push me to buy content.

Part of me while excited about having Siri on mac.....already using Google and Alexa, I find Siri not just to be behind, but vastly inferior other than simple commands like "today Weather" etc (and I was forced to turn on WIFI on my mac pro for siri to find my location for the weather :( ).

Comeon Tim, invest in Siri, its awful. If the competition had not advanced so far, it would be okay, but if you use Alexa or Google for a while, its embarrassing how far siri is. So.....yeah thanks for Siri on mac......but an amazon dot is far superior.

The rest of MacOS , looking good so far.

Anyone upgrading from Yosemite to Sierra? Never installed El Capitan because of all the posts about it being glacially slow.
