Aha, so I'm not crazy!

Yes indeed, Air Sharing Pro is a thing of beauty.

Then again, Apple's offering is FREE . . . so I suppose one can't complain.

honestly i think i got the original version of Air Sharing for free (or maybe just .99), so i knew that $4.99 for the Pro version would be worth it :)

I have a movie that i ripped down using Handbrake in my MobileMe folder and I am able to stream it to my iPhone.

Nice job Apple!

yep, and that is the killer app that will run on the tablet mac as well.:D

i just wonder if this takes off how apple and att will handle the huge amounts of data transferred.

I've never seen mobileme for less than the equiv. of $70 (£42.99 from some ebay sellers) in the UK... that is if you discount the scams where they buy family packs and sell you access to a sub account.

It's just not worth that much to me.. I like the idea of idisk (even if it is hellishly slow, it's better than nothing) but the only other feature I'm interested in potentially would be the email, and that lacks both server side filters and the ability to use your own domain so isn't suitable. For just the idisk and maybe the find my iphone feature I reckon I could part with £10 a year..

It is OK but it still needs work. From my 5 minutes of playing

3) Sharing is nice, but needs work. Absolutely no control over expiration time or password, and you can only email the link to someone, not copy it to the clipboard as it doesn't even appear in the email editor that pops up

There is a line there where you can change the expiration date and set a password. It's easy to overlook though.

I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned but you can also usually find MobileMe subscriptions very cheap on ebay (as is always the case on ebay, go with a reputable seller). I think I might have paid like $50 or $55 for mine. Also, all you need is the code so if the seller offers to email you the code for free rather than pay $5 or whatever to send you the box, just get the code - the box is useless.

Oops - looks like some others mentioned ebay while I was still typing. Oh well - still good info though:D.

LOL!! I checked Amazon just now, and the price of the "MobileMe [OLD VERSION]" is now up to $57.99 while the "MobileMe Individual (Updated 2009 Version)" is up to $95.00.

Has anyone noticed that the time in the video never changes from "09:42" ? I mean the entire video is 2:30 long and the time never changes!

Requires 3.0... I guess I'm out.

It does look like a pretty ugly app though. What is happening to Apple? Have they forgotten how to make beautiful applications? The Keynote app is ugly too and so is the Voice Memos app.

I'm losing faith in Apple. At least Snow Leopard is looking nice.

You are not on 3.0 already ? Don't blame Apple, blame you...

Are you still running Panther on your Mac ? :D

I think it's great that Apple finally put this out, but my fears are that apps like Air Sharing or the upcoming Drop Box app will be denied or removed from the app store.

People pay more because going to starbucks for coffee, or the bar for a drink, or a restaurant for a meal adds some value to the product. Quite often it's the atmosphere you get, but sometimes it's just the convenience. This doesn't apply with all products, however. With products, you get the exact same thing for a cheaper price, and it's a good thing. I'm sure almost every person here would rather pay less for something than more for that same thing.

I got the first year free because I worked at Apple and paid $69 to renew because the manager was cool and gave me the discount. MobileMe is definitely worth $99 to me (and really, more at times), but I'd choose to pay less every single time if I were able to.

Yes there is atmosphere etc. But it is not paying the same price for the same thing with MobileMe. For some people they have to plan to order it, search for the low price, and enter the activation fee once the box arrives, etc., so those savings do come with a effort tax that auto renewing does not. I'm not saying one is right vs. the other. The whole point of my post was that many people choose every day to spend more on some things than other people do for a variety of reasons and there really isn't a point getting into a debate over personal preference. Maybe my point was lost there somehow.

On another subject, I choose to buy my Macs from Apple directly, whether a preconfig or a build to order, whereas other people choose to go through Amazon or other resellers to save on rebates and tax. But there are many many many other things like TVs, RAM, drives, etc. where I choose to get these items from my trusted sources like Amazon, NewEgg and Other World Computing as well as places like J&R rather than going into BestBuy or Apple and paying inflated retail prices. But most of the reason I don't try to save on my Macs is that I almost always BTO which you usually can't do through a MacMall, Amazon or other reseller.

What exactly are you getting in the box?

I ordered the subscripiton from Apple and did not have to wait for UPS just started using it.
Well, you're really missing out then! You get stickers and a booklet! (Here's some guy's unboxing video to see what you're missing out on. Is there an unboxing video for everything?) But seriously, I got it this way because it was cheap, plain and simple. The cheapest I could get it from Apple is $69.99 plus tax, with the $30 discount for buying a Macbook Pro. I'm in no rush, as I said I have a couple of weeks before my account requires the serial number.

You are not on 3.0 already ? Don't blame Apple, blame you...

Are you still running Panther on your Mac ? :D

1. No, I've used 3.0 and 3.1 and I don't like the performance loss, so I downgraded.

2. When I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, my computer got faster.

3. Panther will not run on my Mac Pro.

3.0 is a hog, and I will not tolerate it.

There is a line there where you can change the expiration date and set a password. It's easy to overlook though.

Still need work on the Sharing part. The only way to change or edit the Expiration Date or Password is to click on the "Email Link Again" and mail to you again. Needs an option to modify this without email again.

I love the "share file" option in iDisk, except that it takes FOREVER to sync large files.

Apple needs to working on making the cloud a little faster

You're going to go and give it a poor ranking because you misunderstood the requirements? Please tell me you're not actually putting that ranking on the App Store.

That's right. As I stated, I was under the impression a user did not need a mobileme account to use iDisk. As others like me have noted I have my own domains, etc. and I find it ridiculous that my 5 year old 20 GB 4th gen. ipod can act as an external harddrive, yet my 3 week new 32GB 3GS cannot (without 3rd party attempts). So yes I'm using what little power I have as a consumer and long time Apple fan to voice my opinion. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
