Funny that the iMac, iPod and iPhone didn't make it in there that I saw. Those actually were ideas that DID push the tech world forward. The touch bar? Really?

No - watch it again. Read.

Penicillin was a discovery that moved the world forward; Touch Bar is a pressure-sensitive strip on a laptop keyboard.

This ad smacks of arrogance.

I agree. The pinnacle of human progress is a touch bar on a laptop?

Even worse, seeing this long line of light bulbs end at the Macbook also sent me another message - "we're out of ideas".

I think you guys missed the point of the ad... They are calling it a tool for great ideas, not necessarily the great idea itself. That's why they kept showing the guy making fire using simple tools like rocks.

The MBPtb will never be able to be used to create something as important as TP.

Never
.

The invention of TP raised the bar too high for Apple's bar to ever come close to reaching, no matter what tool is used.

The MBPtb does not wipe the TP ... the TP wipes it. That's how important TP is.

I think the Touch Bar is a neat future, to be honest. The Function key row goes unused for most people in their daily computing and this lets that space be what it needs to be. You don't need to sell me on that, Apple.

You just need to put it on a computer that's more function for everything else.

I'm amazed at the 99% rejection rate of this ad in these comments. I think it was a very powerful ad; it will turn heads when it airs on screens in homes and elsewhere. People will be curious. I don't think the MacBook Pro and Touch Bar got enough exposure in the ad, but I think this is just at teaser as part of a larger campaign.

I just hope that they didn't just blow up thousands of bulbs and leave a mess in nature, or filled garbage cans with the exploded bulbs. I hope they take their commitment to the environment all the way through to the end of their advertising production. Could that have been done with CGI?

Lol "Ideas push the world forward", just don't ask Apple for an idea they can't handle like bringing touch to a Mac screen, then that idea is absurd and ridiculous.

The ad should say "Your ideas don't push the world forward, only ours, because we say so".

You are literally the 1% of who this ad is for. You have already drunk the juice and Apple can do nothing wrong to you. Just like their marketing department. For everybody else, it's embarrassing.

Maybe I’m a bit daft, but what exactly do the exploding lightbulbs mean?

The lightbulb represents a huge leap forward in technology, industry and lifestyle. It replaced flickering candles. I'm not sure exactly what an exploding lightbulb means ... maybe they are saying "This is the next step in the evolution of laptops, it's time for old tech (function keys) to go. And may they go out with a bang!".

It's a hell of a grandiose advert (and I do like it for sure) for what I think it's fair to say has widely been received as a mediocre update. It remains to be seen whether the Touch Bar will be a world changing innovation (my gut feeling is it won't..)

I disagree. People are upset about the ports and the non-upgradeability, but they only quibble about the Touch Bar because it's new and unfamiliar. Once more people start using it, the tune will change drastically. It will really become a defining feature that "the other guys" just can't match. Macs will be unique once again.

I wonder what some people are doing on this site... whining for the sake of it? This ad is fantastic and captures the essence of Apple.

Dongles will eventually go away, and in the process Apple will have pushed the tech world forward as usual, at 3x speed, towards an incredibly better technology.

And the move will be seen as a "natural, inevitable evolution" two years from now. Just sad.
