Great ad! Well done and classy.

I really don't know how to respond to those who don't "get" this ad. I guess it's due to today's culture where everyone has to constantly find fault with everything out there. It's sad for those people really. Everyone wants to be a smart ass and a hater! I guess that's the trendy thing now. It really creates a situation where that person ends up being pathetic in an effort try to make themselves relevant to something.

I'm glad you enjoy spending twice the price for your beloved Apple products in comparison to Google, Samsung or Dell, in exchange for the wonderful sappy commercials...after all, it's money out of your pocket that is paying for them.

I get Apple...They're just as greedy as any other big business.

Sir/Ma'am: your post is annoying and lame.

Apple really knocked it out of the park again this holiday season, last year the son who made a family movie and this year with a granddaughter recording a song her grandmother originally sang, definitely another fantastic ad, doesn't always have to be about the products but about the meaning of the ad

I turned on my TV today to a cheesy commercial with a bunch of hipsters and bad music, had no idea what it was they were trying to promote, but I knew it was an Apple commercial since well... It featured a bunch of hipsters, bad music and didn't promote anything... I ended up being right.

Apple needs to start promoting ads that people who aren't Apple fanboys are also going to like. Ads need to sway people who are on the fence, and I doubt many people debating between Samsung and Apple are gonna buy an iPhone after watching this.

Process?

How do you play a vinyl record & get the audio into your Apple Mac Book?
I get once you're in GarageBand, etc, etc... but I haven't seen the 45 record input into Mac process before???

This one was good. Most other ads are bleh, this one was nicely done and had feeling!

What commercial are you talking about? It really sounds like you're talking about every Samsung commercial I've seen in the past 2 years. You don't sway people who don't get Apple by targeting them with commercials. It never works that way. You can only target people on the fence who do get Apple but are afraid to change ecosystems. You can also reinforce Apple customers that they made the right choice in the hopes that ire word of mouth will lead others on the fence to Apple too. Commercials do not make anyone who doesn't want to be part of a company suddenly want to become part of that culture.

There are many cheap USB converters from analog to digital available but I assumed the girl in the commercial just held the speaker up to the MacBook Air's microphone. It wouldn't sound great but considering the vinyl recording was an old record, I don't think anyone would know or care about quality issues.

Not Apple's best work. It would seem to work much better if it was the grandfather listening to the song on the iPod.

That would be hard considering the grandfather is dead. Seriously, are you the same tool that criticized last year's holiday commercial because the kid was shooting in portrait mode but we saw the video in landscape mode? Don't deny it or I'll know you're lying.

You do realize that you're both trashing Apple, right? I wish you Apple haters could at least get on the same page.

Mac Book connected to Phonograph via cable?

Commercial show white cable from Mac to Phonograph. USB Converter cable from Audio Out of turntable to Audio In at MacBook? Special USB turntable? There was a brief disclaimer from Apple stating that "additional hardware required" on the commercial... Just curious.

People that don't "get" Apple or their customers don't understand how you can spend extra on computers and phones when there's a perfectly good one in the Android bargain bin. But for something as important as the computer I'm on 10 hours a day and the phone I carry 12 hours a day, I think a few hundred extra is SO worth it. And on top of that I know I'm feeding back into the system of the company that shapes and drives the entire computer and mobile industry.

Google sells ads, Microsoft sells operating systems, Samsung will sell anything to anyone with money. Apple sells hardware and software that equate to experiences which is why this commercial resonates with people that "get" it. Not so much with bargain hunters and spec geeks.

I don't know. I always find these ads to be fluff. Just like any fluffy ad from the beer companies. It doesn't tell me anything about the product except that it's "cool" to have one. It doesn't differentiate the product from any other.

The only time I really care about "fluffy" ads is during the Superbowl

What in this commercial says anything about "cool" to you? It's about memories and generation gaps and how good technology bridges them effectively. It's brave for a tech company to deliver such a melancholy holiday message in a TV ad. You have to really know your audience and your brand strengths to pull it off. It really says a lot that some people not only reject commercials with emotional depth but just don't even understand their place in marketing, culture and art.

Not sure what you're asking. They have special USB turntables and cable converters too. Maybe this girl used that but who cares really? If you need to know just Google it but if you want to just enjoy a short story in the form of an ad, you have it right here already.

I just find it hard to get all goofy over a 160 billion dollar company who's always in the news over tax evasion or found guilty of not living up to their warranty.

didn't do anything for me. I actually wondered what it was trying to say about the apple hardware.

It's the subtleness that matters... how transparently Apple devices fit into modern day life, and how nostalgia can still have a place in people's hearts. It's not about the technology, it's about the experience and capabilities. The technology is invisible.

Did you even watch it? If so, then you completely missed the point! It wasn't about the products.... it's rarely about the products! Apple is always about the experience, from end to end. The products are merely a way to create that experience. A means to an end.

That's exactly the point. It's not saying anything about the hardware, it's that apple helps us achieve more. If you have to break it down to connectors, apps, cpu power etc... then you'll never achieve something with as much heart as the girl achieved in the ad. You can do this was an opposition tablet and PC, but people don't because (stereotypically) they aren't as artistic.. (note I said stereotypically)

I'm actually talking about every Apple commercial, I made that clear. I also made it clear that I was talking about targeting people who are "on the fence" not one who has already made up their mind. Sounds like you responded with an emotional knee jerk reply because you didn't like what I had to say but didn't actually read (or perhaps understand?) it.

That was beautiful, gave me a tear for sure. My mom (92) recorded a song on an aluminum disc atop the Empire state building in the 30s. This was a brilliant example of what is possible today. It's what you do to make a difference!

In the end it's all about the money folks. That's what Apple wants from you, to please its shareholders. Nothing else matters. Capitalism and greed doesn't make a better world.
