So, how long before these show up on Amazon ? I'd love to use my Prime shipping for one of these :)

No shipping + No Sales Tax + Rebate

When they upgraded the Macbooks a few weeks ago, weren't they available on Amazon almost immediately?

It will probably be a week to week and a half until they can ship them, but they might show up on there tonight or tomorrow, for ordering.

3. Does the 128MG of video memory make that much of a difference?
<<<<<<<<

No. Those that really need it will know why and can explain it in high detail. If you don't, it's more than you need... Don't listen to the "more is better" crowd - they're not always right...[/QUOTE]Texture memory, 128 MB doesn't cut it anymore.

Wow $500 for that bump. I'll keep using my craptastic Latitude D800 and wait for a refurbished model. What is this 2004? What's the price of some video RAM for a mainstream card?

I hear you, but the option is available to you. Apple's been behind the times with video cards for years. If you're the type of person that is on top of all the latest cards and their intimate details, then Apple will surely consistently disappoint you. You expected them to change all of the sudden?

Another person passing along WRONG info.

ALL models got the LED display, 15 and 17", glossy AND matte. This is according to the press release and can be verified on Apple's US site if you click the MBP on the main apple page and read all the new info.

I don't think so. Please read more carefully.

To answer my own question... Amazon shows June 19th for availability. No rebate though (yet).

I can't understand why people are fed up by this update...

Come on guys!

You asked for Santa Rosa, they delivered. You asked for LED screens, we got it. The X1600 was outdated, here comes 8600M GT. Plus, we got 2GB of RAM for all models.

That is a GREAT update.

I think some were looking for case redesign as I was. But I'm very pleased with this update now just seeing if the 15" isn't to big and unwieldy for me and I'll buy.

Seriously.... though.... some people need to come to reality, these are the best components available at a pretty nice price.

LED-backlit displays ONLY IN THE US ....check the Apple UK site (or any other European Apple Site) and you will find no mentioning of LED Displays...sucks

If you look closer, those are still the old pages. CPU speeds 2.16 and 2.33 are a clear sign of it.

Why would you think the people answering the phone would know this stuff?

You would be surprised, I have had some eloquent discussions.

The good stuff ...

So from the reseach I have gained this far ... If the new Macbooks are using the chip T7700 it is a blast of a proc. Really a lot faster.

Intel refers to this proc as a Intel Centrino " Pro "

Link goes here ... http://www.intel.com/performance/mobile/centrinopro/index.htm

Also for the NAND technology, Intel refers to this technology as "Turbo Memeory". Which is on the T7700 chip.

http://www.intel.com/performance/mobile/intel_turbo_memory.htm

What do you guys think?

Correct, and since OSX offloads everything drawn on screen to the VC (video card), having more ram will probably become even more important.

True, I do want the latest video card. I'm glad Apple put the 8600M GT in but video RAM is cheap to come buy. They've had 128 MB for years and they keep going...

You'll see desktop 8500GTs with 512 MB just to clear stock on older GDDR2.

Nice update. I will be buying as soon as I can get the time today. I will get a 2.4 15.4" model.

15 inch regular or glossy?

I'm ready to order, but I'm still torn between getting the glossy screen or not. I know all the deeper color vs. more glare arguments, but strictly from a resale standpoint what is more popular? I would think the non glossy since that is the default.

Is that what the majority of everyone here is ordering?

Thanks.

Great update Apple, well done! Santa Rosa, LED display, 2 GB RAM, updated video card - couldn't ask for much more at all! I'll be placing my order in a few weeks - just want to wait for WWDC to make sure there is no Leopard rebate offer announced with the purchase of new Macs. ;)

I'd prefer a 256 CTO option myself for the $1999 model if it makes you feel any better. :p ;)

Well I just went for it, after about 6 months of waiting for this day. Couldn't be any happier right now :D

Still have not recieved Mac book Pro 2.16

Hey guys! Wanted to know if anyone had this problem. I order a Macbook Pro May 6th and still have not received it. I ordered it through my university bookstore (Virginia Tech). Do you think I can return it and get the new one, or do you think the one I ordered will be more than what I asked for since its taking so long?

I really wanted it in May, but now since I've waited so long I want the new one!

Thanks!

Here are the specs to what I ordered:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz
System Memory: 2GB DDR2 667MHz (1GBx2)
Display: 15.4" (1440x900)
Video: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 128MB
Hard Drive: 120GB SATA 5400rpm
Optical Drive: Super Drive DVD+/-RW/CD-RW

Wireless: Integrated 802.11g
Battery: 60-Watt-Hour Lithium Polymer
Operating System: Mac OS X Tiger

I don't play games, but will be doing HD video editing using Final Cut, and some photo editing and before this update was set to get the upper level 15" MBP for the 2gb ram and 256mb GPU, but now that the GPU has been updated and 2gb is standard, would the entry level 15" be all I need? Is it really worth the extra £300 or so for an extra 128mb of video memory? How big a difference would that make?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

LED DISPLAYS!!!!

HOORAY!!!

Sorry, had to use all-caps for this one. Excellent news. Excellent news indeed!

I consider this a Major upgarde

Why is this NOT a major upgrade? Santa rosa chip, faster speed (up to four times is being touted on some programs), more Ram for same price, ability to expand to 4 gigs of Ram, LED display, Nvidea's new graphics cards, more hard drive for the same price, option of 7200 rpm 160 gig hard drive, thinner case, slightly lighter.

Just purchased one. My old Powerbook G4 is 3 years old this month.

But why? You can see something is a MBP from a mile away, it's so iconic. What's wrong with it that it needs to be changed? Change for change's sake?

PowerBook G3's design was iconic as was the PowerBook G4 Titanium, PowerMac G4, iMac G4....point is all the designs were great but they were updated to even greater designs. Technology/innovation keeps moving forward....well it did until 4 yrs ago. Its turning into the Razr story
