Are people really that dim ......

Now, nevermind these new machines I want a whole new small MBP (12" powerbook replacement) announced as the one last thing at WWDC.
Who's with me?

:)

Your questioning peoples intelligence and then you make that statement. There is no way in hell that will happen. Apple would have to many annoyed customers that bought 15" today only for the 13" they would have preferred to arrive next week!

Nice Revision but i think im going to sit tight with my 2.33/256/3gb/160HD MBP

Memory-Hard Drive

I'm getting ready to place an order now. I just have two questions.

Memory: Apple's memory is expensive. I want to max it out at 4 gigs so what memory do I get? What type of memory do I buy? Is it the same memory that the previous C2D mac used?

Hard Drive: I really want the 200 gig hard drive but performance is important to me. Is there a big speed decrease in the 200 gig hard drive since it's 4200 vs. 5400rpm? If so I'm staying with 160 gigs but my second question then is is there a big performance jump going up to the 160 gig 7200 rpm drive?

... But Robson is definitely a legitimate complaint. I'm waiting until Monday to see if there genuinely is no Robson cache. Cause if they say there will be, maybe it will be another 802.11n surprise.

Something to keep in mind: Intel's Robson technology can be implemented on the motherboard itself or on an Express Card plugged into a slot on the motherboard.

I was positive that LEDs wouldn't be coming until 2008. I'm very happy to be proven totally and completely wrong. No complaints here. Excellent upgrade, Apple. Maybe I won't wait for Penryn.

And if you don't like the upgrade, check out the special deals section. Older MBPs from $1349! Wow.

P.S. Robson Cache/Turbo Memory is a scam IMO. You're not missing anything.

How are you sure about this?

http://www.apple.com/uk/pr/050607_mbp.html

It only lists LED screens in the press release -- there is no place (that I've seen so far) on the US site that states LED screens (not in the Store or in the product overview pages).

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

"Display’s the thing

A great video processor powers a great display. The new MacBook Pro is available in 15-inch models with a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display and a 17-inch model with an optional 1920-by-1200 pixel display."

Product Overview Page.

I'm just curious to see whether either of these new screens (15-in LED and 17-in HD) are an improvement over the less-than-acceptable screens that plagued the previous iteration of the MBP.

That. I'm waiting to hear reports from the bleeding-edge buyers, especially with regards to bits of color per channel.

6 HOURS!

Wow.

Even though that might be 4 realistically.

I'm waiting for Mac World to get there hands on it and post a review of it.

I really like this update.

I wouldn't get too excited over that statement... the last gen said it got 5 hours and it was more like 3 and a half. I would say the new ones get 4 and a half (just a guess)

My post in in jest hence the smiley.

That's computing for you.

New Macbook Thin. Doesn't light your candle?

Okay, part of me worried that Apple wouldn't include Santa Rosa. I know it seems stupid to think that, but Apple has let me down like that in the past.

As I said yesterday, I now expect Apple to release a 13.3" MBP while cutting the price of the MBs slightly (hence justifying its weak update). Like the recently announced Dell, this won't be a true "ultra portable" (though Shaw Wu will be so relieved that his lying about insider-knowledge of upcomming Apple products that he will claim this to be it). If Apple DOES decide to go the Ultra-Portable route, it will follow the 13.3" with an 11" flash-based unit of some sort.

Of course this is just my prediction, but c'mon, it only makes sense. A company will be hard-pressed to make a sub-4lb unit with a 13.3" screen.

And for those calling for a 12" MBP: Why on earth would Apple complicate their inventory and design schematics when it has almost all the parts needed to make a 13" RIGHT NOW? They wouldn't. It'll be a 13.3" 'widescreen' and the form-factor will be plenty small.

I want to see some screenshots of the new LED screens.

Great update, by the way. I'm looking forward to purchasing in August.

If it happens mine will be going straight back to apple and traded for the new one.....as will many thousands of others. They really wont do it. Your in the same city as me i bet my new MBP on it ;)

I had the original MacBook Pro and it got about 3 and half hours if I was lucky, and if I wasn't doing anything close to intense.

This update makes it harder for me to decide between getting a Mac Pro tower or a MacBook Pro on the go with a external hard drive.

I think it is a nice update all around really. Some people complain to much. The biggest thing is te use of LED backlight in the 15in model and still keeping stuff at the same price.

I am hoping and dreaming that a 13.3in MBP with the specs of the low end 15.4 comes out at WWDC. Apple won't get me to pay the premium for the Black color and (more then likely) won't get me to move to the higher priced 15.4 model. 15.4 is a little bigger then what i want to carry around on campus for 6-8 hours a day. Not to mention if they do a 13.3in with LED backlight just think of the battery life the thing could get.

Think, as I mentioned a few hundred posts ago, that in the excitement we're not looking at the bigger picture ... with specs like these, I think we're looking at something significant coming in Leopard: probably to do with running Windows OS's or Apps.

Dream on... the specs are the results of using the latest and greatest (mobile) CPU and supporting chipsets currently available from Intel.

I agree, there's plenty of scope for the shrinking of the bezel size and making the machine thinner too.

Finally....

Finally, a laptop configuration from Apple that I won't need to add anything to for it to be useful to me. Of course, I'm not quite ready to upgrade from my Powerbook yet.

The only question is to go with the default disk, or upgrade to the 7200 RPM disk. As for the model, it would be the faster 15" plus Applecare. Of course by the time I buy, the question(s) of what to order will have most likely changed.

not that the law seems to matter much these days, but aren't they required by law to honor their pricing mistakes.

someone's getting fired today, and it's an IT guy.

anyway if that works, even though i have the 2.33, that price with a student discount, the extra $135 off and the free nano, makes if VERY tempting to upgrade.
Exactly. A manager with a good sense of customer satisfaction would give the first couple people to notice this the discount to alleviate the glitch.

Yeah don't expect to get it. BUT WOULD LOVE TO!

Has anyone by chance confirmed whether or not you can pick up the 17" 1900x1200 glossy display at an Apple Retail store, or if these have to be ordered online.

Here is what I have found out. In Southern NJ and SE PA, the new 15" MBPs are available in store today. The 17" MBPs are not available, but should be in by the end of the week. The high resolution display will NOT be available in the brick and mortar stores and can only be ordered online.

I have called three local Apple Stores and they have all given me the exact same information.

Because a 12" would mean less weight and those of us who are interested are always on the lookout for something with both portability and power.

Even I, as a 12" PB owner am hesitant to commit to a 13" machine. We want something that is small and powerful as we possibly can.
