Same here. Is it the matter of durability that's having Apple decided to keep the LED backlit screen as thick as the CCFL screen on the 15" MBP?

Well my X-Wife has the G4 PB which is similar in design .. now reguarding the screen this screen on this one seems a HEAK of alot thinner than the PB ... im not sure if the MAcbook pro is thinner than the last gen G4 pb but this new one i just got today feel Verry much thinner overall than the last PB

I must say the LED screen is VERRY BRIGHT (cranked all the way up) i mean like WOW *Squints eyes* this is BRIGHT! infact when i got in the car after buying it at the apple store i busted it out of the box and turned it on ... now normaly I have an old core duo 17" dell with the upgraded screen and you can barly see the screen when in the car but not on this sucker its super clear and it was sunny at the time.

If that is true (which I think it is, but....), then this is a historic day! Wahoo!!!

Latest, yes. Greatest, no. I'm sure everyone would have loved to see a mobile 8800 variant in the high-end, but considering that would infringe on the Mac Pro, Apple wouldn't have done it at any price. Just wait for that as a built-to-order in 6 months or so...

As I said before I checked your past 14 posts and nothing is pending about the LED backlights, education promo, or video RAM.

I don't think anyone would know that today or do a torture test on on!

It could be any drive manufacturer.

Gah. There are many questions THAT HAVE BEEN ASKED BY OTHERS which I have been watching go unanswered or else had their answers lost amist a **** ton of replies that are off-topic. I guess I'll go to one of the other Mac forums if this is how y'all roll here.

It could be any drive manufacturer.

Do you mean that Apple supply the same computer with drives from different manufacturer - lucky dip style, or do they stick with one drive manufacturer for a particular revision of a particular computer.

As the Barefeats people show - not all drives (even with the same specs) are created equal - so I was wondering if those who have got their new MBPs now could share the manufacturer of the drive with us...

He/She specifically said they were watching to see responses to questions asked, not necessarily questions THEY asked.

Get off your high horse, will you?
I see, not ones "they" asked. I apologize for that but I try to multiquote as many posts into my replies.

Was it glossy or matte?

It seems to be any manufacturer for said OEM part. The laptops tend to have Hatachi drives though. That's the only trend I've noticed.

It's a popular thread on a new piece of hardware. I've tried to answer a lot of posts in my replies. I apologize for just limiting it to your questions.

17" Delay?

I actually purchased a 17" MBP back on May 25th, and luckily Mac held my order (without me knowing why at the time, thanks Apple!) which allowed my order to bump up to the updated MBPs. So originally my order was May 25th.. ships by May 31-June 4th. Held for updates... now it says..

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400
SuperDrive 8X
MacBook Pro 17-in Widescreen
NO MODEM
iWork '06
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Country Kit

Ships by: Jun 18

Wow! June 18th... might not ship for another 2 weeks. I imagine this is a supply issue. While it was nice of Apple to hold order for the update, that will be pushing a month since my original order, kinda wanted it faster than that. Has anyone heard likewise or had a similar experience?

ADC software

Yeah, those are what you get with the $500 ADC Select membership, but they aren't included with the $99 ADC Student membership. At least this is what ADC told me when I inquired about it.

Not true. I have a student memberships and have gotten monthly software (and a free X-large [i wear a medium] black t-shirt with a big X on it :D :apple: )

AMEN! my god between Eidorian and DigitalSkunk, this thread could be half as long. I don't see why both of them weren't put in time out... Does seniority play a factor when deciding who is being belligerent?

Doesn't the MBP have the GT?

LOL... Yes ANY mbp is enough to run FCS 2

Although, I'd suggest looking into HD timings. A slow HD can have a significant effect on Final Cut performance, especially given the CPU and video horsepower these machines have to throw at it. An external RAID drive might make sense (well, for multiple reasons, but including performance).

I've been debating between the two 15" MBP and listening to some of the posts arguing that $500 is too much to pay for the slight upgrades you receive. Since you basically get a bundle, rather than individual upgrades like Dell, I went to Dell to seek out exactly how much they would charge for similar, individual upgrades.

In their D630 model, Dell charges $340 to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.4.

In their Inspiron series, Dell charges $125-199 to upgrade to a 256 graphics card (not the same card, as that isn't available through Dell. This is also an upgrade from integrated, so weight this as you will).

Also in their Inspiron series, Dell charges $70 to upgrade the harddrive from 120 to 160.

This gives you an estimated total value range for the upgrades of $535-609.

Again, this is an estimate, not an exact component-to-component figure. I found it helpful, however, and do not see the "premium" to be quite so large now. Hope this helps some others in their decision as well. :D

Was the glare that bad with glossy? Or did the LED's cancel that out due to their brightness?
You're quick at editing. :D

on the dell (old lcd screens) you can tell BIG time its glossy

on the macbook bro it was just like eye candy, all crisp and bright I didnt even notice a reflection.

Which is why none of this would have ever happened if video RAM was a BTO option. :p

Thanks!

I wish they made the 1900 x 1200 pixel resolution on the 17" MacBook Pro standard, not an option. Other than that, it looks like a good update to the MacBook Pros. Now, just the iMacs and a "true" Mac Pro update.

You DO get software for student ADC

No and no actually. Hardware purchased through the ADC store does not include the deals like the free Nano.

And as others have already said, the software seeds and free OS releases are part of the $500 ADC Select membership, not the $99 student membership which does not include either of those.

I have a student membership and i get software every month. also... i'm fairly certain that the ADC rep i spoke with when i signed up let me know that devos get free leopard
