Delays Coming In

So now the stock 15" models are shipping in 3-5days, as opposed to 1-3days yesterday.... I have a feeling its only going to get worse.

I know I am going to buy the upper 15"- saved the money since Nov'06 for this time... but I am still waiting to place my order until I see the Keynote at WWDC.

Any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and place the order, or would it be a safe bet to wait till WWDC?

I need to have the laptop with me by July 1st. Thanks! (This will be my first Mac machine).

The new MBPs came out yesterday. What is it exactly that you're expecting from WWDC? I don't really see them introducing even newer MBPs next week, that's ridiculous.

Good to hear that... I guess I will just go ahead and order a upper 15" ASAP. I am a total idiot/noob/dumba$$ when it comes to Macs, thats why I turned to experts like you to help me out! :D

Thanks a lot!

I just got back from the Apple Store in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

They only had one new MBP out, a matte 2.4 GHz 15.4" model.

I am definitely impressed. The screen IS noticeably brighter, and whites are whiter and blacks are blacker. I compared it side by side to the older matte MBP next to it, and it was startling how much darker and grayer the old MBP screen was compared to the new one. As some have said, this might be because the old MBP's screen was getting dimmer with age, but even if that's the case, it shows what should be a pretty long term benefit of the LED-backlit screens.

I'm definitely impressed with it though; exactly what I was hoping for, as the screen was my only real complaint about the previous MBP.

That it also has an 8600M GT in it is just icing on the cake for me.

I didn't get a chance to see what it looked like with a glossy screen, but the matte really amazed me....... I loaded up Photoshop CS3 (btw, loaded in like 1 second..... amazing to me), Logic, Final Cut Pro, etc...... and everything just looked beautiful and crisp.

I can definitely see getting the matte screen version.

Custom configuration at the apple store?

Has anyone tried to get a custom configured 17" HD rez MBP with upgraded harddrive? I'm trying to see if I should order it online or if they have the ability to custom configure it in the actual Apple store?

so you don't think we'll see a tablet mac or the "small form factor" mac tuesday? i don't see why they would announce it or imacs because of education thing...but who knows.

So I've got the money all lined up, my cart is full and ready to checkout, but I still can't decide on glossy or matte...
I had always told myself matte, but now I'm second guessing and thinking glossy. It was so easy to recommend to other people an option, but I can't do it myself.

I'll be at college mostly, and the most creative thing I do is website creation.

I'd go with matte, personally. I was just using the matte screen version and its beautiful; I wouldn't get the glossy unless you just really like the effect of glossy screens.

I went matte on mine and I'm very satisfied. Like you, I'm using it for college, and as my main computer. I watch movie and play WoW on it from time to time, and it meets and exceeds my expectations.
The screen is very nice. I think glossy is too glossy.

I think I'm going to go glossy. Most reports say its best for outside viewing. Most reflections can be eliminated with minimal screen adjustment also. If it becomes bothersome for writing papers I'll probably take an LCD and hook it up externally.

17" HiRes 2nd Thoughts

Has anyone tried to get a custom configured 17" HD rez MBP with upgraded harddrive? I'm trying to see if I should order it online or if they have the ability to custom configure it in the actual Apple store?

Hey Everyone - long time reader, first time poster...blah blah.

Sooo, in response to the above, I just ordered the MBP 17" with the HiRes screen along with 4GB RAM and the 7200RPM hard drive. From what I understand, this is not configurable in the store itself. I processed my order on the phone and the Apple guy told me that the "4-6 week" would probably be more like 2-3 (which still SUCKS but oh well).

Everyone seems to really be going after the LED screens and there's not much mention of how much more real estate the HiRes 17" will offer...the idea of having multiple windows open with no overlap is really appealing to me in terms of productivity, but now I'm starting to second guess myself after reading all of the hype on how much longer the LED screens will maintain their brightness.

Also, I'm going back to school to get an M.A. in journalism and will probably be doing a lot of work in Adobe's Design Suite as well as video editing and a lot of web work (blogging). Did I go overboard on the above config? I love the 7200RPM hard drive (my LaCie external 350GB is noticeably faster than the 5400RPM 160GB I have in my 3 year old Dell desktop). I really want the computer to still be pretty beastly in a few years and that's why the 4GB of RAM really appealed to me. Probably gonna pay this off with student loans and I'd rather get everything up front rather than have to worry about upgrading later. Any thoughts here? Any hands-on comments on the 17" HiRes screen yet??

Last interesting tidbit...the last Mac I owned (beat this):
Powerbook 145
60MB hard drive
Two color screen
1MB RAM
Trackball!

Thanks in advance for your comments/advice!

Anybody waiting for a 13" MBP is just crazy IMO. Apple does the compact, portable, lower powered Macbooks, and the more powerful, professional Macbook Pros which need the larger screens for video/design work. I just can't see where a 13" fits in.

I'm putting my money on Steve dropping the Mac Mini, and introducing the first generation of "Mac Book Mini" A tablet with multi touch screen. I personally wouldn't be interested in it though (i require pbk)... mind you, it would be good for site meetings though...

I was putting my money on the secret new interface of Leopard being touch screen - and the introduction of touch screen iMac, MBP, & Cinema displays.

Now the MBP is out, without touch screen, I guess I was wrong!
(I've assumed it's not possible that they've hidden the functionality for now)

To be honest I am going to wait!! I know it sounds dumb, but who knows what will come out. For all we know Apple could release the MBP 13inch!!! Plus it seems Apple might have a little backorder problems, so why not wait?! All I can say is at 11:30 when WWDC is over and there is nothing coming out, ill be on the phone ASAP ordering my MBP BTO!! :D

I'm betting on a small SDD LED MPB at WWDC....

4. Has anyone installed Vista on the new Mac yet? If so what’s the Windows score? It better be higher than 4.8!! The old 2.33 w/2gb RAM and X1600 had that score.

From what I am seeing the WEI is still 4.8. You can thank the RAM for that though as the WEI takes the lowest score as your system score.
