Yeah  Also, it makes it cheaper to select the flossy screen instead of matte. And, when I choose the 7,200 rpm HD instead of 5,400, the price doesn't change

All the price glitches are fixed when you add it to your cart.

there goes

$2,896.72

15" mbp 2.4 ghz
ipod 30gb
canon printer

I actually need a ipod and printer (ipod dead / printer out of ink :))

why is the glossy 17" non hd display $100 cheaper than the matte 17" non-hd display. And why is the 17" HD glossy display $50 cheaper than the 17" matt non-hd display?!?!?!

that doesnt make sense

Overall a solid evolutionary update. Nothing really pushing me to trade in, except maybe the LED thing BUT my screen is ok so i'll live and wait until next yr. Hopefully we'll get a case redesign....i think its time for one.

My brother is getting one though, so i'll get to play with these babies soon enough

I noticed that too! Apple could have screwed up the prices for the buttons or something. I don't know what the blazes is going on!

Is there THAT much of a speed difference between a 5400 RPM drive and a 7200 RPM drive on a mac. I know with a PC, it is possible to tell the difference, but I feel that every time I use any older mac it still runs smooth oil.

£1,299 = €1,914, which is about the same as elsewhere in Europe. And U.S. prices indeed don't include V.A.T.
Without including any sales tax such as VAT, the base unit is now only $5 cheaper in the States than the UK - curse value added tax!

Awesome.

Now, here's hoping that since the iMac and Macbook Pro shared a graphics chipset in the past that this is what they put into the new iMacs.

Will be so bought.

anyway, this update is nice but not revolutionary.
now i have the coice between
a MB 2GB 120GB + ipod for ~$1300 (edu)
a MBP 2GB 120GB + ipod for ~$1800 (edu)

i wonder if the screen and the GPU are worth the $500 to me...............

Umm, when you consider the quality of the case (aluminum doesn't scratch or discolor like the MB) the backlit keyboard (I could never live without this again) and better port options I would DEFINITELY go with the MBP.

250Gb HD - very interesting. That would mean that I can carry all my stuff everywhere I go without having to muck about with an external HDD. This is an important feature for me.

However... it's only 4700 RPM. Would that seriously dent performance compared to a 5400 RPM 160Gb drive?

Also - anyone actually know if this includes Robson Caching?

Cheers
SL

I am ready to upgrade to the new MBP, but would appreciate some advice from anyone who is more knowledgable on the subject than I...

I am in the design profession, and will be doing alot of heavy photo editing/rendering within Photoshop as well as other general design work with Adobe CS3, as well as working in programs such as Archicad within OSX. I will also be running Windows/bootcamp to run Autodesk architectural software. While basic AutoCAD is not an issue at all, I will be running heavier 3D rendering software such as Revit, but more importantly VIZ and Maya, and so I will need as much speed as I can afford.

My question is whether it is better to go with the 2.2 GHz Processor with an upgrade to 4gb of memory, or go with the 2.4 GHz Processor and stay with the 2gb of memory... Those two combinations are roughly comparable in price. Thanks in advance for any input!

These updates (the 15-incher) make me really wanna sell my 1 year old MacBook and pick one of these babies up.

Anybody looking for a Black MacBook? ;)

That is exactly what I was going to post. This is the 1st update that really makes me want to sell my 1 year old black MacBook and get the MBP. I'm not complaining about today's update at all but if Apple had released a 13.3" widescreen MBP with the 15" specs I would have bought one on the spot. Guess I'll try to hold on to the MacBook a little longer since I really don't want a 15" notebook.

Well my order's in, this delivered pretty much everything I wanted in a MBP refresh. Slight speed bump on the processor (irrelevant really as the MBP range has been at the top of the pile since it came out anyway), big bump in the graphics (thank you lord), 2Gb Ram as standard and what amounts to a big price drop (£50 less for the basic model to start with then consider that the only difference between the new base model and the previous top-end 15" is a 2.33 C2D versus a 2.2 and the extra VRAM plus the much faster GPU in the new range which basically means for £1299 you're getting something that was £400 more just yesterday).

Personally I'd be happy if the LCD was just a standard one but it does look like it's an LED backlight. It seems to have had some effect to, look at the tech specs for the new machines and battery life is now 5.5 hours across the board. If I remember rightly the old 15" machines were 5 hours?

I would go for more RAM. But then again, the 2.4GHZ model has slightly faster vid-card as well.... But for things like Photoshop, more RAM definitely comes in handy.

just pulled the trigger

Just ordered the faster 15" model :)

For those who been wondering:

1. Both 15" screens (matte and glossy) have LED backlighting (I called to confirm this).

2. The BTO pricing issues (such as reduction in price when selecting glossy and no increase when selecting 4GB RAM and 7200RPM hard drive) are resolved whenever you add the machine to your cart.

Thanks, Apple. This was the update I was hoping for. :apple:

Ok here's the deal, the UK minimum price is £1299 that's $2592. I can't believe that difference in price! Its criminal. Even my educational pricing of £1104 is $2204, this is wrong. Sod the DRM stuff and consumers complaining about being locked in etc (I always buy of iTunes anyway) but these price difference are insane. Time to move, but i can't.

If you look around you can fly to New York, buy one there, fly home again and still be cheaper than the UK store. Oh and you'll get it quicker that way too...

Sunday is two days ago, you can still exchange it for the new models.

even if it's opened? the receipt seems to indicate i'd get charged a 10% fee. i'm going to call and see if they even have the new models at the store yet and if i can exchange it when they open.
