does anyone know if apple store locations will have this in stock today... or if I will get it faster by ordering it online? I live just down the street from my apple store!!! PLEASE!!!

I believe the 2,2Ghz processor is a Santa Rosa part as a) There isn't a 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo as far as I know and b) the build-to-order options in the Mac store list memory options of 2Gb and 4Gb for all of the new Macbook Pro models, including the 2.2Ghz model. Oh, and C) we've already seen 2.2Ghz Santa Rosa CPU's in other laptops such as the Samsung SENS P55

No that was a stupid comment... I should go back and change it to "I like pie..." Read that article I posted. Can anyone else decipher that?

You didn't mention the fugly discoloration (the palmrest of the MB is made of soft sweat and dirt absorbing plastic), but it sounds like you'd be ok with that as well, so I'd say go for it.
This was a problem that chiefly affected the first revision of MBs. Although odd person are still being reported on sites like Macintouch, but it’s a lot rarer than it was. Apple will replace any affected parts though.

Does anyone know what the 7200 rpm drive does to the battery life. Can't help thinking that with all that fast spinning that the power consumption would increase.
5400rpm are generally the most energy efficient – barefeats has tested a variety of hard drives in MBPs… don’t have the links to hand, but they’re easy to find on site.

perhaps I can hope for a catastrophic disaster to occur to my MBP (covered by warranty), it'll be unrepairable, so they offer to replace it for a brand new machine. But Apple Australia won't have any stock of my model, so they'll just give me one of these new beasts

too far fetched?

Which HDD?

Does anyone have any information on the relative speed differences and power consumption differences between the different hard drive options? I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 4200rpm drive uses perpendicular technology and is effectively faster than the rpm would indicate ...

I remember the article too. Basically that there was no actual performance gain with the next faster speed - I think, maybe???
Anyone?

Their Canada education website is very... off. When you add in a component that should raise the price, it actually lowers it.

I am ready to upgrade to the new MBP, but would appreciate some advice from anyone who is more knowledgable on the subject than I...

I am in the design profession, and will be doing alot of heavy photo editing/rendering within Photoshop as well as other general design work with Adobe CS3, as well as working in programs such as Archicad within OSX. I will also be running Windows/bootcamp to run Autodesk architectural software. While basic AutoCAD is not an issue at all, I will be running heavier 3D rendering software such as Revit, but more importantly VIZ and Maya, and so I will need as much speed as I can afford.

My question is whether it is better to go with the 2.2 GHz Processor with an upgrade to 4gb of memory, or go with the 2.4 GHz Processor and stay with the 2gb of memory... Those two combinations are roughly comparable in price. Thanks in advance for any input!

We do a lot of the same stuff, but like the other guy giving you advice said, rendering is a CPU intensive process, so get the fastest CPU you can, the RAM can be upgraded later and cheaper (from crucial or wherever) and over time (2x1GB, buy 1x2GB to replace 1GB, buy second 1x2GB later to replaces 1GB).

Its a way better machine, stop bitching.
-Better Processor (Santa Rosa, 2.4Ghz, 800! mhz bus)
-Support for 4GB ram.
-Far better video card (its not a gaming machine)
-Better Battery life (Led Backlit, not oled screen but very nice) they claim 6 hours. 4 wuold be nice
-Better BTO options, bigger HDs.
-Better prices internationally

Its time to go and get one of this babies!!!!!

Its at least 25% faster in all ways than the previous model.

I'm soooo close ordering a HD 17" MBP...

If only the UK store had a free iPod deal on right now in the edu store, I'd buy one straight away. But.... I soo want to order one now! :p lol

Great thing have a gf that's a teacher, and a younger brother in Uni - I get to use their discounts! :D

Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between the LED and the standard display? I'm tempted by the 17" version with the 1920 display, but six hours battery life on the high-end 15" is nice..

This was a problem that chiefly affected the first revision of MBs. Although odd person are still being reported on sites like Macintouch, but it’s a lot rarer than it was. Apple will replace any affected parts though.

I don't believe so. The "orange" discoloration only affected the first models, but the soft plastic still absorbs dirt and sweat.

Well, how long has it been since the last release of the MacBook Pro till this one. This Macbook Pro is sure NOT much of improvement. I was expecting something great! Like in Speed (3 GHz) and Santa Rosa.

You are certainly living up to your newbieness.

will dell accuse apple of photocopy? since they get LED laptop first..

Umm, did they? Last I saw they announced a 13.3" machine with an LED screen that would be for sale at some point in the future. Besides, didn't someone else (Sony?) already ship an LED screen?

This is super. I could not ask for more. What a machine and some super upgrades. My store opens at 10:00 AM. I am ready to buy and love.

Thank you apple, thank you macrumors. :)

Does it have hdmi?

No, unfortunately no. I wouldn't mind if dvi + audio to HDMI wasn't so @#$% expensive (hundreds of dollars for an adapter that just puts audio and dvi into one cable of the same standard??? WHY?!?!?)
